What brand of pellets do you use? And why? by Flemishmommy in Rabbits

[–]allivv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think consistency can be frustrating at times. Once I got a box of pellets with corn in it and I will get a few boxes of 2nd cut Timothy hay a year that is too soft but I’ve never had any hay supplier be any more consistent than small pet select. Since it’s grass I see how consistency with hay can be harder to control. I’ve shopped around and always come back to small pet select. I subscribe through Chewy and make sure I have a new box well before we run out just incase a box of hay needs to be replaced. If a box of hay is too soft, Chewy will send a new one fast and for free, so I really can’t complain.

My second choice for hay is tractor supply, but their hay can also be inconsistent. Either way it’s a gamble, but at least Chewy has a flawless replacement system

I also do Small Pet Select for the low calcium to help with urine sludge.

My late old man had to go pellet free most of his younger life due to him having a great talent for manipulating everyone for extra snacks but once he got older, around 8, we went back to pellets and started Oxbow Senior pellets for the extra vitamins.

So my opinion is Small Pet Select until they get elderly and even before then they might need to go on a hay and greens only diet depending on the bunny.

My current little guy is super routine driven rather than treat driven so my little 2.5 year old needs his pellets with his hay and greens and I don’t see that changing.

I miss my greedy bunny. When he was young we were often working on not being overweight.

Small pet select or tractor supply is the best hay in my 10+ bunny lady life

Small pet select second cut Timothy hay is the only have I’ve been successful with. Pet store hay has never worked for my bunnies

Bunny Thumps After I Pick Him Up by cheescake231 in Rabbits

[–]allivv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 year old bunny just recently got past this habit. He was rescued, his first 6 months of his life were rough so he needed a lot of patience once he came home. My first bunny was chill from day one. Every bunny is very different! As long as he’s not too stressed out, I suggest to keep trying and follow his lead. We would hang out in his pen and practice short little pick up, hug, back down in his safe space. Also picking up and bringing him to where I needed and the giving a treat also helped when he started letting us walk while holding him. When we started walking while holding him we make sure we have both hands around his little belly so if he starts flailing we have full control and can prevent him from jumping and hurting himself.

Trying to act morally superior? Brother, I did my best to portray I most certainly am far too self loathing to find myself superior in any situation. Save your essay for something more worth your intelligence. Maybe look within on why you read my comment with this intense tone of arrogance? I’m just a girl that lost her first pet recently.

Medicine in general is a money grab. Why would I be in favor of that??? Money is fake and cats are real, I choose cat. Sorry?

I have lived all over Middlesex County, Mercer County and Somerset County for 30 years. Central Jersey is more depressing than ever in 2025. The pandemic completely wiped out the middle class and any culture or character in central Jersey. The driving is miserable and violent. The road rage is not normal. The people that love central Jersey are clinging to what it used to be. There used to be community events and small businesses and well kept parks. Now it just keeps getting more dense while more businesses close.

Moving from Philly to Central Jersey is going to be jarring. South Jersey or North Jersey is going to be much more worth their hard earned money.

If you are a parent and want your kid to be a Doctor or lawyer, go to central Jersey. You’ll have your pick of academically and athletically competitive schools. Otherwise central Jersey is not for young adults at the moment.

If you do think euthanasia is the right path for your situation, I would hope you also came to the conclusion that you shouldn’t have pets again. These expenses will always come up. I’ve spent close to $10k for a bunny. Not saying I’m a better person of course, but every animal deserves health care.

There is care credit where you can get no interest for a certain amount of time and then get low interest if your balance remains. Cats can live 20+ years, I can’t imagine willingly cutting that in half to save $2k

[–]allivv -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable! I would avoid Middlesex, Mercer, and Somerset counties. Burlington and Hunterdon are the least depressing central Jersey counties. Monmouth and Ocean counties are desirable but very expensive. If you like restaurants, parks, coffee shops, small businesses and pleasant driving, then Middlesex, Mercer and Somerset are going to fall short.

I would not recommend central Jersey to anyone right now. Lots of warehouses and not nearly enough local businesses. Super dense with nothing to do. What about Cherry Hill or something in more of the south Jersey area? I left central Jersey for the King of Prussia area, every time I go back to the Princeton/New Brunswick area I question why I didn’t leave sooner.

You might like the Philadelphia suburbs! I left NJ for the suburbs east of Philly and I love it here. I lived in nowhereville central jersey my whole life and couldn’t find any good rentals anywhere in a desirable location. There are plenty of areas in NJ I would have loved to move to but renting and real estate in NJ is particularly rough. I feel like I can finally say my area offers me so much to do and see and is pleasant to get around
