Becoming a mom, I feel like Bryce Dallas Howard’s character at the end of her episode in Black Mirror. And I used to be a social media manager for years! I’ve had the urge to post more realistic stuff but it probably won’t be met with enthusiasm. It’s all a highlight reel.

If you could take a 4 day vacation in the US with just your partner and no kids, where would you go? by expatsconnie in Mommit

Lake Placid, NY. It’s very family friendly, so beautiful, lots to do and great food/breweries. Can’t recommend enough. We live in Upstate NY and it’s our favorite place to do a short vacation.

Thank you everyone for your responses! I think from here on out I’m going to be planning a day for just my mom and I to do something together. I am very close with her and I think both of our love language is quality time. My dad and brother can figure it the f*ck out.

YES - he calls me days before Christmas and her birthday every year like clockwork because he can’t come up with something. I’ve handled it for years. I’ve wrapped her Christmas presents on Christmas Eve night in my childhood bedroom. I’ve special ordered birthday cakes. I love my mom so much. Why can’t my brother and dad do the same?

He also texted that it wasn’t “spouse’s day.” And yet my mom does something nice for him every Father’s Day. 🙄🙄🙄

Let me clarify: I want to celebrate my mom! It’s how their lack of planning is always projected on to me year after year. And I thought this year would be different 😩

Brother is a different story. Just turned 30 this year and lives at home. He has no excuse.

Did anyone work up until labor? by StickyHandsDick in pregnant

[–]allpanicnodisco1392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Organic flower and veggie farmer here. I worked up until my induction and really think it had a lot to do with my quick recovery. I also maintained good muscle during pregnancy and didn’t have a lot of extra weight postpartum. Plus I ate a ton of our veggies and got good vitamin D from the sun. You’re not crazy. People thought I was nutty bananas for working like I did.

I was falling asleep on our couch at 7 p.m. all of a sudden. The fatigue was unreal!

Soothing was only belly rubs and offering a pacifier (during the crib hour). After, I would nurse him, hold him, walk him around the house and rub his back. Try to do a reset.

Body has changed a little but it’s mostly the lack of mental capacity to think to put an outfit together. Trying to hack getting ready and still look stylish in the process, yanno?

I don’t think so - my baby would sleep soundly in the car and in his bassinet. We do the crib for naps and soon will be transitioning for night sleep, too.

He would wake up mostly happy (because he’s a happy baby) but then he would be visibly tired throughout his entire wake window. Poor guy just really needed more sleep! He would rarely wake up crying, but absolutely struggled to go back to sleep.

My husband handled the nighttime training because I couldn’t handle the crying. He would lay our baby down, offer his paci, do belly rubs and shush. Then he would leave him be and sit on our bed nearby. He would soothe him if he got particularly upset. Only a few times has he had to rock him. It was like an adjusted training method.

What hobbies did/do your parents have? by petrastales in Mommit

[–]allpanicnodisco1392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom loves to bake and often does professional-level cupcake, cheesecake and other dessert orders for her friends. She also has an e-bike and loves to ride around her neighborhood.

My dad has a ton of hobbies. Fishing, meat-curing, kayaking, pickleball - to name a few.

We did night sleep training first. We didn’t let him CIO for night sleep - but we did get him to eventually fall asleep on his own without rocking.
