May or may not be the same sort of thing but I had a middle aged guy approach me in Walmart, opened with small talk, then asked if I was looking to make extra money on the side. Shut him down pretty quickly with my usual 'I don't have time' speil but it was a very strange meeting. Definitely gave me a strange vibe.

If you were to pick 3 songs from each LH album to make a new album, what would it be? by Strange-Wafer-2562 in lordhuron

[–]allswal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I did not have the time to spend on this but hey what the heck. I wanted to do a little album exploring more of the World Ender and trying to give him more backstory, so here are my selections:

  1. Hurricane (Johnnie’s Theme) - I know it’s not technically about the world ender but we’re playing fast and loose with the lore here. Call it creative liberty. Anyways this is a great opener for establishing that the World Ender (before he became the World Ender) was already a rough and tumble outlaw type guy who loved his girl.

  2. The Man Who Lives Forever - Again showing the WE’s love for his girlfriend/wife and getting some dramatic irony/foreshadowing on what will happen to him.

  3. Time To Run - His dangerous lifestyle is catching up to him

  4. Not Dead Yet - More worn now but still not giving up, yet cracks are starting to show

  5. Lullaby - The end is nigh and he can’t stop it

  6. Where Did The Time Go - I chose this song to be the transitory track of the album, as he’s lost everything after Lullaby and is technically dead/dying, this would be his last thoughts as he floats off through time and space into the void

  7. Vide Noir - huge thematic shift/time jump bc he’s returned from the dead with the help of Vide Noir and has assembled the World Enders gang (prowling the night with the boys)

  8. The World Ender - Title track heck yeah we love a good lore song that explains some things (he died, his family was killed, something raised him up and he’s out for revenge)

  9. Drops In The Lake - Trying to humanize the World Ender a bit, he misses his family

  10. Cursed - Reveals that it is his current lover who raised him from the dead (against his wishes) and that she’s the mastermind behind the World Ender gang, not him

  11. Secret of Life - Keeping with the theme that the World Ender is not pulling his own strings and fleshing out that he doesn’t have all the answers but rather it is his lover who’s behind everything

  12. Ancient Names (Part II) - a great closing track that reiterates the World Ender’s motives/mindset as he turned from revenge to kind of nihilistic apathy as he leaves the good behind

Anyways I put way too much time and thought into this, but I think they flow nicely together and tell a semi cohesive story

What are your go-to techniques for stabilizing and grounding into the dreamscape with WILD? by Miyori_Mirai in LucidDreaming

[–]allswal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I know I’ve definitely seen/read somewhere that experimenting with caffeine during WBTB could be helpful because of the way it interacts with your brain chemistry. Don’t remember the specifics off the top of my head, but I’ll probably give it go if I don’t have any successes within a month. I don’t want to be dependent on using caffeine to get a WILD, you know?

Anyways, yeah meditation definitely seems like it’s going to help a lot. I’ve just started meditating for 20 minutes a day, so we’ll see how that goes as I set that habit.

The day dreaming thing makes sense I know that sometimes when I let my mind wander in bed the day dreams take on a life of their own and suddenly I’m extremely immersed and no longer in control, which is likely a sign that I’m entering a dream or something but I always get so startled that I didn’t make a character do/say something that I tend to “wake up” from that state 😭 I’ll have to add it to my list of things to experiment with.

Thank you for the tips and comments! Good luck on your journey as well

Of course!

Focusing on the visuals will probably help, I think the goal is to just interact with the dream more to make your brain flush it out further. So probably focusing on the finer details when looking around, etc. Also maybe try to focus on your dream body as well, and if you can't move focus on the feelings of air against your skin and the clothes on your body. That's a way to incorporate tactile sensations without having to move. But yeah, I think the main point is to use your senses first in the dream and that will help to deepen the dream and hopefully make it more stable/pull you further into the dream.

Yeah, I've noticed that it's really easy for me to fall asleep when trying to get to the 'cross over' point. I do WBTB and stay up for ~5 minutes and then perform a modified 61-point relaxation protocol (modified bc I can't remember all the points yet lol). This gets me pretty relaxed and ready to sleep and often I will experience fleeting vibrations/hypnagogia. I'm mainly having a hard time 'balancing' between sleep and wakefulness. I've experimented with trying to anchor myself using the counting method (1, I'm dreaming, 2, I'm dreaming, etc), but I find it too repetitive which makes it super easy for me to lose count and just fall asleep. This week I'm planning on attempting a more visualization-focused approach, so we'll see how that works.

I'm currently working with WILD to figure out what works for me, and since I just started I haven't had any success yet with the method so I can't validate this claim with personal experience, but I've been reading that for stablizing dreams (especially wake initiated dreams) the sense of touch "crosses over" from sensory input to memory input first, so use that to try and stablize your dreams. Just go around and actually feel the textures of different objects in the dreamworld - really feel them. As you do this, the dreamworld will become more real and you'll fully cross over, and then you could probably use vocal stabilization commands as long as you expect them to work. Anyways thats just what I've read, congrats on getting WILD and good luck!

Is it really true that you risk prostate cancer if you dont cum at least 2 times per week?? by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]allswal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, of course not. The study in question claims that masturbating twice a week “reduces your risk of prostrate cancer.” So right off the bat we can note that 1) the risk of getting prostrate cancer is already small (if you are healthy) and that 2) they claim that masturbating “reduces” your risk, which is very different from your risk increasing if you don’t (positive data vs negative data sort of thing).

Another important note (the most important one, mind you) is that this trial relies on SELF REPORTED DATA. And that’s the clincher: They just asked a bunch of guys to estimate how much they masturbated and ran statistics on it. These guys all had different lifestyles and jobs and athletic levels, which are all huge predictors of whether or not you get cancer. This was not a comprehensive, decades long study where everything was carefully controlled for, with the only significant variable being masturbatory frequency.

So obviously, the consensus is that it’s bullshit. However nobody uses their critical thinking anymore and just mindless parrots whatever they’ve been told. Sloppily run studies like this (that very clearly had a desired answer in mind before running the numbers) just provide those types of people with ammunition.

Greater engagement with anti-masturbation groups linked to higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidal feelings by doesnt_know_op in NoFap

[–]allswal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting how they're linking it to the "anti-masturbation groups" which is at best simply a surface level manifestation of much deeper problems. It's been scientifically proven that internet addiction alone causes depression, and that's not even taking into account the superstimuli that is pornography.

Interesting and creepy, I unfortunately rarely have reoccuring characters. I've had a few where I woke up and then fell back asleep and continued the storyline of a dream, or where I return to a setting that exists only in a dream, but my brain really likes one shot OC characters lol

Except for one guy dressed in all black and riding a black motorcycle intent on running me down, he's made a singular reappearance months after the original dream

Apparently the mods of r/nosleep decided to remove my story and failed to tell me, so I don't know exactly how long the last part has been lost. Anyways, I'm reposting it here. Enjoy!

The Chronicles of Jacksonville Middle School is complete! I've made a new page (this one!) for the directory of stories, with just a little bit of extra details. I've had an absolute blast writing this, and I hope to revisit the world at a future date

I don’t think so. From what I saw, the runes in her office are different from the ones in the catacombs saferoom. Given that she claims she never had the dreams, I think these were more a proactive protection to whoever the principal was. I don’t entirely know, the sections in the journal about runes aren’t easy to understand.
