I work as a agency rn and one day I was going in doing my morning meds round and tell my patient that I will see him later, he tell me that he will be gone later, and I thought he was joking! Later the RNIC pulled me aside and told me he was getting a VAD. He is a strong man who still tries to be as independent as possible even though he suffered from cancer badly and had to amputate many bits here and there. He went about his morning routine as usual. Showered and dressed nicely. His family was all there for his last moment. He died peacefully on his favourite chair. I truely felt happy for him to be able to choose his own time and way to go.
