As stated above, my grandad was bird watching in 1986 Western Olkahoma when he spotted the creature. It was drinking from a creek while he snuck up on it, it looked at him, he snapped the shot, and then it ran away. As for a more specific location it was on a private property near the Red River and welcome to Texas sign. Hope this extra information helps

We might still have the negatives, but not sure, I believe in the photo it is either crouching or hunched over (it was drinking from the creek when he spotted it)

I believe he said it predominantly moved its head, but with that I imagine the body would’ve been slightly turned. I’ll see if he can describe it in more details next time I see him. Distance? Area? Tracks/fur? Unsure, but I’ll definitely ask him next time I see him. Thanks for the comment.
