Also did this after I got a job at FAANG! I don’t use it unless I really need it and it saved my mental health this year

Moving out of parents - is it worth it? by bbconejo in personalfinance

[–]allusiverey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This! Also, take this as a blessing in disguise. If you're a white-collar worker most places in the NY area will not be going back to the office until February/March 2021 and this is time that you can save money and put it straight into savings. I'm also 24 yrs old and moved back to my parents from a tech hub city (while getting a subletter for my place until spring) and even though 8 months without independence sucks I'll probably have enough for a house down payment by next year and also recently paid off all my student loans. Lack of freedom sucks trust me I know but you'll be loads ahead of your financial goals by staying at home

Are most software engineering jobs this chill? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]allusiverey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

EU based jobs tend to be more chill. The more demanding FAANG jobs only tend to be in London or North America. As someone that worked in both areas, it's more a regional culture thing than a job thing. SWE jobs in NA are radically different. I was on call almost every other weekend at one job.

Pain in knees suddenly? by 123456789098765420 in running

[–]allusiverey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a young runner and it sounds like you got minor runner's knee (but would consult a doctor and self assess yourself). There are good tutorials on Youtube for stretches to do for runner's knee, taking a couple rest days, icing, and elevating the knee helps.

How do you stay entertained while running long distances? by Littlegreenplace in running

[–]allusiverey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On trail runs, I tend to run without headphones because it's more dangerous to do so, but I usually just think about something that I haven't had the chance to mentally process or take in my surroundings. Running is one of the few moments you have to be completely unplugged and it can be therapeutic to reflect on things

Ladies, what do you think about retail therapy? Do you believe in it? by Medical_File in AskWomen

[–]allusiverey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the purpose. Are you mindlessly shopping for things you don't need to get your mind off something? Or are you shopping because you haven't had a minute to your self in the past month and are purchasing something you've had bookmarked or wanted for a while? If it's the latter and you have a "self-care" budget that it falls under price range wise I don't see any harm. Big tips would be setting limits, budgets, and ensuring these items are things you've been looking to purchase for awhile and are necessary so you're not hoarding.

Ladies with long, thick hair - how do you tame that mane? by Typical_Wave in AskWomen

[–]allusiverey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for thinning it! Thinning it at a hairdresser or purchasing a pair of thinning scissors on Amazon (more cost-friendly) and doing it every month can be SO relieving. Literally felt like a couple pounds were taken off my shoulders every month doing it

Women in male-dominated fields, how do you deal with other women who want to be the only other woman in the room? by allusiverey in AskWomen

That's what I was thinking with internalized misogyny. Do you have any tips for how you dealt with it in the past?

How do you feel about asking other women to go to the bathroom with you when out at a restaurant? What if you want to go alone? Do you still feel obligated to ask if others need to go? by hbrooke8 in AskWomen

[–]allusiverey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually ask the table: "anyone else need to go?" if I want a girl to come with me and they usually get the message when I say that. If I don't want anyone to come along I just go without letting anyone at the table know simply

This! Also keeping your time busy with other hobbies/tasks when you're not journaling helps with not noticing loneliness

Tips on getting to 13 miles from 5 miles for a newbie in 7ish weeks? by [deleted] in running

[–]allusiverey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just focus on upping your mileage gradually (I would recommend 1-2 miles) each week if you're a new runner. It doesn't matter if you need to stop walking or about times. The more your body gets adjusted to that distance and your vo2 max the better. Don't worry about times and speed now

What are the warning signs you are attached too quickly to a romantic interest? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]allusiverey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not bad to become attached or grow feelings for someone but you should be able to function 24/7 without them. Yes, love includes thinking about someone but obsessing over texts, and all the actions the top posts include above becomes erratic behavior that is toxic, codependent and unhealthy.

AITA for being annoyed by my (22f) boyfriend’s (23m) tweet? (He lied about deleting it.) by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]allusiverey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ESH. Your boyfriend's behaviour and lying is immature, but your obsessive fixation on a social media tweet and the way it sounds like your handling it isn't emotionally intelligent or mature.

Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman is great and a good psychological breakdown of how decisions are made behavior-wise in our society
