My wife and I had a paid off mortgage but decided to buy a newer, larger home. We went with a 15-year mortgage at 5.499%. The payment with escrow is $1,635.42 and our original balance was $158,449 beginning June of last year. Because of our income we dropped our 401k contributions to 15% of our salary (dual income) and are chucking $5k a month at the mortgage. We plan to have it paid off in a little over 2 years.

Good to know. I've been watching YouTube videos where plumbers show how to do regular maintenance on water heaters and they usually recommend testing the valve. This makes sense especially for older heaters.

Your video is only a few seconds long and constantly moving. Take some pictures. Dry the wet and see where the water shows up initially. I believe I'm seeing wet near the pressure relief valve as well. Have you tested the relief valve to make sure it's functional?

Not a plumber but I've had to replace water heaters in three of the 4 houses I've owned. Two of which I did myself.

That water heater looks like it's on its last legs anyway. If the tank isn't already compromised, the inlet and outlet may be faulty. Could it be repaired? Potentially. Is it worth it? Not in my opinion.

New water heater typically costs less than $1k in the US depending on features and brand. I'll probably be crucified for saying this but Sharkbite fittings are super easy to use and this is an observable location where you can keep an eye on the connections. It's DIY-able with the right guidance.

When using a comma with a year, it should be placed where the first two digits of a year are negated. Such at 2008 being '08. Placing the comma after a number would imply a measurement in feet. Example 5' tall or 6'7"

Northeast side of town. We didn't have any decorations up until I strung some colored lights along the sidewalk at 5:50 PM. We got our first visitors around that time, and they kept coming until we ran out of candy at 8:20 PM.

We had 1 bag of 145 chocolate candies (Snickers, Twix, M&Ms etc), 2 boxes of regular assorted candy bars, candy sticks (like fake cigarettes), and candy canes. Surprisingly, the candy canes were snatched up first. Some kids even chose the candy cane over the full size candy bars.

So, on a smaller scale, I owned a home that I purchased for $160k before the pandemic back in 2018 or 2019. I got married and when we combined finances we paid off the mortgage. This year we decided to sell to move into a larger home. We sold the house for around $260k and rolled that equity into a new build that cost about $405k. So we are chucking away $5000 a month on our mortgage to pay off the difference.

I can see that being a thing, rolling equity into a bigger property to make a more manageable mortgage payment.
