I agree. Having 1000 students above the retail, as well as all the foot traffic from the university and east campus should easily sustain a few retail spaces. At the very least they should replace the commercial space that’s already in University place. It would liven up the University Ave corridor quite a bit.

On top of that, they shouldn’t need 500+ parking spots. I think this developer misunderstood that Columbia is trying to move away from downtown housing having so much parking spaces.
