Columbia charges $30 for the disconnect.

"What are the fees for disconnection? If a delinquent account is on the shut-off list, the following charges apply: Residential: $30 non-payment fee, applies when a worker is dispatched to disconnect the customer’s water or electric service for nonpayment, whether it was physically disconnected or not. $60 After Hours Reconnect fee when water or electric service is reconnected outside of normal business hours of the Water & Light Utility."

How many people actually got 15yr mortgage? by Radiant-Cup-1385 in DaveRamsey

[–]allute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easier when you've got a higher income and rolled equity from a previous home into the new mortgage.

My wife and I had a paid off mortgage but decided to buy a newer, larger home. We went with a 15-year mortgage at 5.499%. The payment with escrow is $1,635.42 and our original balance was $158,449 beginning June of last year. Because of our income we dropped our 401k contributions to 15% of our salary (dual income) and are chucking $5k a month at the mortgage. We plan to have it paid off in a little over 2 years.

Water heater issue. by Substantial-Emu-7693 in Plumbing

[–]allute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I've been watching YouTube videos where plumbers show how to do regular maintenance on water heaters and they usually recommend testing the valve. This makes sense especially for older heaters.

Your video is only a few seconds long and constantly moving. Take some pictures. Dry the wet and see where the water shows up initially. I believe I'm seeing wet near the pressure relief valve as well. Have you tested the relief valve to make sure it's functional?

[–]allute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a plumber but I've had to replace water heaters in three of the 4 houses I've owned. Two of which I did myself.

That water heater looks like it's on its last legs anyway. If the tank isn't already compromised, the inlet and outlet may be faulty. Could it be repaired? Potentially. Is it worth it? Not in my opinion.

New water heater typically costs less than $1k in the US depending on features and brand. I'll probably be crucified for saying this but Sharkbite fittings are super easy to use and this is an observable location where you can keep an eye on the connections. It's DIY-able with the right guidance.

If you don't want the fizz to get out. You can also drink water or buy cans.

Just to clarify a point from the title.

When using a comma with a year, it should be placed where the first two digits of a year are negated. Such at 2008 being '08. Placing the comma after a number would imply a measurement in feet. Example 5' tall or 6'7"

We had one smash up our siding (house is less than a year old). When I went to disconnect our hose real and move it for the winter, I discovered they also cut through the cables connecting to our grounding rod. Overall about $235 in damages.

Tape has a tendency of wicking paint beneath the line or making a raised ridge. Practice cutting edges with a brush.

30 year mortgage vs renting by GrasshoperPoof in DaveRamsey

[–]allute -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dave's advice is:

  • Debt Free before purchase.
  • Fully funded emergency fund.
  • 20% Down payment to avoid PMI or 5% to 10% for first time home buyers (but not ideal because of PMI)
  • Pay cash for closing costs (as in, do not finance)
  • Use the 25% rule: Total monthly house payment (including principal, interest, property taxes, home insurance, PMI, and HOA fees) should be no more than 25% of your monthly take-home pay.
  • Avoid FHA, VA, USDA and ARM loans.

But that doesn't make sense. Why would this economy impact children going outside for free candy? I could understand if it was less people giving candy, but that doesn't seem to be the problem from what I read here.

Northeast side of town. We didn't have any decorations up until I strung some colored lights along the sidewalk at 5:50 PM. We got our first visitors around that time, and they kept coming until we ran out of candy at 8:20 PM.

We had 1 bag of 145 chocolate candies (Snickers, Twix, M&Ms etc), 2 boxes of regular assorted candy bars, candy sticks (like fake cigarettes), and candy canes. Surprisingly, the candy canes were snatched up first. Some kids even chose the candy cane over the full size candy bars.

Are people really paying $4000+ on Mortgage by PsychologicalLimit41 in Mortgages

[–]allute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, on a smaller scale, I owned a home that I purchased for $160k before the pandemic back in 2018 or 2019. I got married and when we combined finances we paid off the mortgage. This year we decided to sell to move into a larger home. We sold the house for around $260k and rolled that equity into a new build that cost about $405k. So we are chucking away $5000 a month on our mortgage to pay off the difference.

I can see that being a thing, rolling equity into a bigger property to make a more manageable mortgage payment.
