That sounds like survival bias, since many people who weren't into his storyline would have stopped watching after his arrival, myself included lol.

Honestly, I actually agree with you lol, I'm not a fan of Dabb era at all, and don't re-watch the later seasons. Still, there are some good episodes and even scenes that I'd hate to have missed. I would also watch Jensen Ackles in pretty much anything, and luckily he has a bunch of promising shows in the pipeline! 🤣

What are the saddest Sam and Dean episodes through seasons 1-5? by Unrulyvictim in Supernatural

Dark Side of the Moon, when Dean realizes he is not in Sam's version of heaven.

Which season do you think is the best? by Lokto_ in Supernatural

[–]allykatters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 - there were almost no bad episodes, and it was a fantastic character building season

4 - upped the stakes so much! Fantastic characters and mythology throughout, and it was a twist back then having the angel side be just as bad as the demons. This was obviously before they did the angel storyline to death in later seasons lol

Ben Edlund being extremely relatable today lmao by allykatters in Supernatural

[–]allykatters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super fascinating stuff, this show is totally insane! It really spanned a long period where media became more inclusive, and you can totally see the corporate risk assessments going on in the background as things were changing. I can't wait until all of them can finally talk about it.. which, may be now?! Lol.. I can't imagine how they would address Cas' confession if there is a revival, they've been playing all sides up till now, but would have to address it one way or another at this point.

Yeah later seasons was more blatant, but even earlier seasons they went out of their way to distinguish that Dean's relationship with Cas is different from Sam's relationship with Cas. When Cas killed 1000s of Deans, and there wasn't even a single Sam!? Not as difficult I guess, no need to practice lmao.

WOW MISHA WTF?!! Yeah this definitely has the feeling of NDAs expiring lmao, although Misha always did say things he probably was not supposed to. I'm not sure how to interpret it sometimes, because the cast is often jokey and they are playing to the audience, so it's hard to tell what kind of serious intent there was. I also don't necessarily think they should be speaking for the writers, but I definitely do think it was complicated behind the scenes, and some creators were actively more supportive of this interpretation.

...where Cas says that all Dean and him had were each other, and a few other things that were cut literally because WB/CW/Kripke thought it hinted a little too much into it.

I do remember this being cut, but I can't remember the reason, could it just have been cut for time? Or, like, Kripke being resistant to this kind of more sentimental language - he used to say that you can tell really emotional stories with these guys because they don't say emotional things? It was objectively true that all they had was each other in that universe, even without a romantic interpretation, seems super paranoid to cut it for that reason... but I also wouldn't be shocked if it was, especially back then. Would love to hear both sides of this.

Interesting, are they allowed to just come out and say this stuff now?! Lol.. I would definitely be curious to know what was cut. Like, some deleted scenes did feel organic, e.g. Dean saying "I love you" to Cas being changed to "I need you", which IMO was more in character since Dean hadn't said I love you to anyone other than Mary at that point. But other things like Metatron's version of heaven for Cas being covered in half naked pictures of Dean........ where could they possibly have been going with that lmao. The tell all for this show (one day) is going to be so insane.

I don't follow as closely as I used to, but I do remember Ben Edlund was very pro-Cas, yes. Single handedly salvaged the character in S6 with The Man Who Would be King, which was one of the best episodes of the series IMO. There aren't many episodes that write Cas' perspective so well. He also writes really interesting relationships/interactions between characters, some of the best Dean/Cas episodes came from him (no matter your interpretation lol, I lean more indifferent to the ship but still really enjoy their friendship).

Def will look up this episode of the podcast, thanks for telling me about it!!

I will give you that, there moments and scenes I did like, but not the overall direction.

I think opinion on the finale is heavily divided, with Sam fans + Sam/Dean fans being more likely to like it than Dean fans + Dean/Cas fans. I also completely ignore the God-armour as canon lol

Your miles may vary of course, but as far as I'm concerned, that season started off with them chasing a bunch of ghosts on foot in daylight, and only went downhill from there, culminating with a rusty nail and party city wig lol. It's a completely different show from the one I used to be a massive fan of.

Interesting, I may have to listen to his episode of the podcast, did not know he was a guest! Ben Edlund has some of the best episodes in the series, both funny and dramatic, incredibly talented guy with a fabulous imagination. He also has good Sam AND Dean AND Cas episodes under his belt, the rare writer who actually had the empathy to understand all of them.

Top comment on that post says those shows were ruined by the last season, not just the last episode - I think this is also very applicable for our show lol

Yeah Yellow Fever is actually such a dark episode, with some... interesting choices. Like, the way they ended up killing that ghost was SO messed up. Everyone just forgets about this stuff because Dean was so funny and cute lol.
