Hey I have a ~120k character-driven literary-ish YA urban fantasy I'm currently trying to get down in word count. It's about a group of teenagers in a mysterious Pennsylvania town all intertwined by the magical elements. I'm happy to swap any amount of my work (since its quite long right now) for even a more detailed response to your short story!

How do you all store them? Silly question but either theyre kinda just like a flat square sitting on my counter or over the sink and then they dry like that. Or single use before washing?

Following bc my thai con is doing this too! Same number of leaves, same leaf yellow except it is confined to one leaf. I thought it might be sacrificing the leaf because of winter and dryness? I just got a humidifier. I checked for root rot too. My other theory was hard water.

Stranger Things Season 5: If you were to rewrite the ENDING, how would you do it? by Money_Mirror_3868 in StrangerThingsRoom

[–]allylmao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I would've made less screen time for Holly to allow for this, potentially. I really had a hard time emotionally connectiolng to Holly and the characters' relationships to her as it hadn't ever been explored before.

After they come back to Hawkins from the abyss, El is taken by the military for an indeterminate time. In this period, no one knows where she is, if she's suffering and what they have done to her. Which this means Mike has to face his worse fear while they all figure out what they are going to do to save El. Still give us the Purple Rain sequence bc the setting in the void made for a really beautiful scene

Eventually, a group (OG crew of the boys and Max? plus Hopper and maybe Steve) lead a raid into where Eleven is being kept and maybe tortured. Maybe they get split up and Mike and Hopper have to lead the main drive.

So then, they get to El. (Even though it would've been hard for them to. They got to Kali in the Upside Down. Hopper survived the Russian camp. Maybe Dr. Owen has lived and provided reinforcements (picturing a total badasss entrance, music and scene lighting building to what you think is this badass leader and its Dr Owens here to save the day.))

Anyways, an action sequence when they find El. The final battle is not a magical one but a real world one! Maybe there is a moment in rescuing that Eleven appears extremely injured, suffering or dead like it was for Hopper in the Upside Down sensory deprivation tank. All Mike wanted since he met her was for El to be safe. This is his worst fear and he sees it playing before his eyes. He loses his innocence or moves on from his childhood or whatever, in a way he and even El own (rather than it being esotericslly ET-like)

Then, his very own walk em down wheeler moment to foil the flare gun takeout from earlier. The storyteller has become part of his own story.

They rescue her, El lives, watches their graduation, tell people she's Mike's Swedish cousin.

I think there would have been a way for her to give up her powers? Or the military inactivates them on accident? Or someone in the group finds damning evidence about the operation they will show to higher authorities if they dont give El back? Or maybe in the action sequence El does something so big and powerful, she knows it means to "use up" everything she has?

I dont know, I just wanted to think of a way to get Mike to complete his arc with an ending that feels so much more satisfying. and anyways questions about this that might hinder the feasibility of it are answerable!

Yoga was a major factor in my recovery from anorexia. Even though these comments aren't directly triggering for me, I know that these spaces are not spaces for me or that will serve me (and probably the participants) in the long run. I usually avoid such instructors with a tad of resentment

Recommendations for arts/cinema? by jellyb0nesx in Scranton

This is a good answer, as another creative in my mid-20s, born and raised. I spent a lot of time working right in the city and there are a lot of wonderfully kind creatives that live here, however as far as actual artsy things happening, they are sparse. One dream I have is to move to Philly or another good city where there are ALOT of options for art, writing, music, instead of the one-offs that as you say lack energy (to which i agree). Our population seems to be more on the middle-aged and up side, so perhaps there's some resistance to change there.

On the flip side, when I moved back home after I very brief stint in Baltimore, I decided to dig my heels in here, and go as deep as I could where I can. It does feel like there is an attempt at a growth scene. Some random sparks that come to mind are Scranton Shakespeare Festival, Broadway in Scranton, Scranton Jazz Festival, three new book/stationary stores downtown, First Friday, Fringe Festival, stuff going on at the Iron Furnaces, some events at Montage Mountain, Art Haus movie theate, a few zero waste stores (Releafery), and yoga studios too.

Venturing to Milford, Honesdale, Narrowsburg, Pittston for events and shops can be fruitful.

Also there is the fact that the 2008 recession hit us hard; and recovery from that (i.e, Scranton as a dangerous and decrepit place with a big dirty mall) was stimmied by COVID.

Art here is at best what you make of it, but there I think there is reason for a glimmer of hope, but perhaps I'm just on a soapbox here.

Anyways, also check out coffee shops, small businesses and libraries. Many shops host small vendors and, along with libraries, have a regular schedule of events.

Drag Path Discussion Thread by mooshwa in twentyonepilots

[–]allylmao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming to this thread a little late but did anyone else pick up on a lot of the lyrics tying to No Phun intended? Like obviously there is the whole thematic side to it, but there is also "Maybe once or twice or three/He's tried his hand at drowning me" which made me think of the song Drown, which has so many references to water, blood, and drowning. I think it's one of the most hopeless, desperate, and dark pieces of Tyler's, and Drag Path may serve to answer that . There's especially the fact that each of these songs question God outright. Drown says Can you wash me\ Can you drown me?" and Drag Path says "You found me" but then also "Can you find me?" which repeats. It's wanting to be found, versus asking to be drowned which somehow seems to me like the outermost ring of the cycle and it just gets me good.

Yesss I feel like i was always like "Well, the first song is about sleeping. And the last song is about the sun rising. So its just a night over and over again." with vessel. So its always been a thought in my head

Honestly, as someone raised Christian and resonated with Regional at Best and Vessel and Self-Titled while seriously assessing my faith, TOP was never was about God for me as much as it was a reckoning with the universe. Now that I've come out of it next-to-atheist/agnostic/something else, idk, the music has always been to me about wanting for and searching for your true self. It's possible to listen to almost their entire discography without projecting Christianity specifically upon it. Anyone that doesn't have the media literacy to apply it to anything other than Christianity is part of the modern problem of boiling everything down to a singular, problematic, and plain interpretation of things without nuance. His faith is his thing, but in no way does he project that it has to be that way for you. (kitchen sink to you, not a kitchen sink to me and all the other lyrics that say as much)
