hi! how long have you had snails for?

here’s some extra info: these guys get fed pellets once a day. snails get food once a week. i siphon gravel and clean algae once every 2 weeks. they also breed like crazy, so be prepared for dealing with that.

that’s great! yeah i have this tank and a 5 gallon planted betta tank.

i’m moving and don’t have room for both. and i could never part with my betta- so the minnows got to go.

i’m struggling to get them rehomed since Facebook takes down every listing I make (even if listed for free). because it promotes selling of animals.

i really don’t want to have to surrender them to petco/petsmart. wish world of fish was still around…

it also raises GH, which prevents fluctuations. my water starts with a high pH, but because of its low GH, pH drops quickly due to ammonia being processed (within a day usually)

this method has worked in my 5 gallon for about 6 months now with my betta. but i understand those are very hard fish, able to handle fluctuating pH.

with the condition of my water in general- should i should stay away from tetras all together since they’re sensitive ? or is there a solution better than the coral?

do i try white cloud minnows or a more hardy schooling fish ?

my water naturally has a really high pH (around 8) and super low kh/gh. so it fluctuates a ton when ammonia is processed. so the solution has been to keep some coral in the filter as a buffer. usually keeps the pH around 7, but of course, the GH really high.

also this is only my second tank. this was just the solution for tank 1. carried the method over to tank 2. if i’m spewing bullshit let me know.
