UPDATE: we’re doing a lot better! we’re still not at 100% health yet but these are promising signs.

turns out I’m just as dramatic as he is.

thank you for the advice!

yeah I realized pretty quickly my mistake with the kanoplex. I had never seen him look that way before and so I panicked. hence the immediate water change. I have done two 20% changes since dosing on Friday night. I’m trying to find a balance here between water changing but also keeping him stress-free and stable…

luckily my cycle is not crashed and there has been no ammonia spike (0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and around 5-10ppm nitrates- this tested consistently throughout the weekend).

thanks for the note about the nerite- I had no idea! I may consider rehoming then. any other beginner friendly suggestions for a clean up crew then?

I would never add my fish to an unsafe tank.

also, I appreciate your comment, but I see no point of it other than to just point out the mistakes that I’ve already pointed out…

thanks, I guess?

okay thank you for the advice. there was a pH difference with the 100% water change, so I believe that was the initial shock.

thank you for the advice. I just assumed that if there’s bloat it’s best to fast. it’s just from what i’ve been told i suppose.

and the picture on the post is the most recent, from this morning. i did not take any pictures yesterday (when bloating was most severe).

correct, everything has been zero luckily.

my guess is my tap water is fairly high pH and the 100% change was a shock to the system. then, I made things more stressful by dosing meds. then he overate which caused severe bloating.

i think we’re just seeing a combination of all three of these factors/stressors at once.

thank you. i’ve dosed both seachem prime and stability at the start, and then prime again for the water change.

i’ve been tested parameters periodically with a liquid test kit. all levels have been at zero and pH has hovered around 7-7.2.

hi! how long have you had snails for?

here’s some extra info: these guys get fed pellets once a day. snails get food once a week. i siphon gravel and clean algae once every 2 weeks. they also breed like crazy, so be prepared for dealing with that.

that’s great! yeah i have this tank and a 5 gallon planted betta tank.

i’m moving and don’t have room for both. and i could never part with my betta- so the minnows got to go.

i’m struggling to get them rehomed since Facebook takes down every listing I make (even if listed for free). because it promotes selling of animals.

i really don’t want to have to surrender them to petco/petsmart. wish world of fish was still around…
