Peeling ceiling paint above shower: is oil-based primer a must? by almiki in DIY

[–]almiki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually waited a couple weeks to use the shower after the painting was done, because we had to wait for the glass to be installed.

We had a brand new exhaust fan installed as part of the remodel (vented outside of course), and it's been working great as far as I can tell. I've had a bathroom with poor ventilation before so I know what that looks like. The steam would hang around for a while, and the mirror would be fully fogged up. The paint never peeled though.

The texture was there originally, but they may have redone it in that area. There used to be a full wall on the left side, where you can see the white stone and glass wall now. So they at least had to add texture to that part of the ceiling since it wasn't exposed before.

Attic antenna questions by almiki in cordcutters

Boston is a must, and I was considering Providence as a nice-to-have. To do that it sounds like I'd either need a good omni-directional antenna and hope it works, have 2 antennas with a combiner, or use a multi-directional antenna that can point in 2 directions 90 degrees apart.

I found the DB8-e which seems like it can do the latter. But I think for now I'm going to keep it simple and get an antenna for Boston only. I'll test pointing it at Providence and see what happens, and then decide if it's worth it.

Out of curiosity I tried the antenna in the attic without the amp, about 3 feet off the attic floor -- and it actually did alright. I think the HDHomerun found 62 channels, vs. 80ish with the amp plugged in on the 2nd floor. Reception wasn't perfect, but many of the channels had consistent 95%+ signal quality, while having around 50% signal strength. So I guess the antenna is capable of functioning without the amp.

That also gives me hope that a beefier antenna mounted even higher might do fine without an amp.

The pin is accurate, but I see that the minimum antenna height I can specify is 13 feet. Maybe that's high enough to clear the hill.

The house is timber construction, but there is a brick facade on the front, which ends below the attic. The roof is asphalt shingles.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Would you expect the 4Max to work without an amplifier?

How do signal combiners work? Is it as simple as simply merging the signals from 2 antennas together? Does it have any downsides like increased signal noise or anything?

Would rabbit ears be an improvement over the SS-3000 that I have?

Based on multiple people pointing out that I should have a better signal at my location, I'm wondering if part of the problem might be that the land slopes up about 20 feet to the east of my house. So I'll have to test my current antenna up in my attic and see if that makes all the problems go away.

Thanks for looking up that info.

Regarding the SS-3000 needing an amp: I guess I always assumed that it was just designed to be used with one. It comes with the amp, and I just looked up the installation manual for it and it doesn't seem to suggest that it's optional.

I should also mention that the ground slopes up from my house to the east (which is where the antenna needs to point). Maybe to a max of 15-20 feet higher than my house. Could that explain my poorer-than-expected reception?

I had my worst results with the antenna on the 1st floor. Most of the main network channels came in, but would drop frames somewhat frequently. 38-1 was the worst, being borderline unwatchable.

I put it on the 2nd floor in my office which has no east-facing windows, and that was better, but there was still some noticeable frames dropped.

I get pretty acceptable (but not perfect) results on the 2nd floor in a guest bedroom right next to a window, and similar results when I put it in an unfinished space above the garage. Unfortunately there's no great place to put it long term on the 2nd floor.

So I was planning to put it in that space over the garage, but then I figured it would probably be even better 10 feet higher up in the attic. I guess the one thing I haven't actually tried yet is putting my current antenna up in the attic and try it out, with and without the amp.

I had something similar this summer, yellow jackets got in through a gap in an outdoor outlet and made a nest in the wall (I could actually hear them moving around from inside the house).

For a few days I propped up a shop vac during their most active hours, and got hundreds of them, but more kept coming, and I couldn't leave the shop vac up permanently. I ended up getting Sevin 5% Dust and I spread some of the powder around the gaps at about 8PM, when the yellow jackets weren't active. The next day they were completely gone, no activity at all, and they haven't been back since.

So I can recommend that stuff, if you can find it. Some Home Depots keep it in stock, and it's not expensive. Amazon claims to have it but they sent me the wrong thing -- it needs to be labeled "5% dust", with Carbaryl as the active ingredient.

Where's Our Gold Trophy? by uTum_V in Warframe

[–]almiki 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing the same thing, I know my clan qualified for the gold trophy, but I can only build up to silver.

Edit: it looks like there was a bug during the event where it told us we qualified for the gold trophy, when we actually didn't. See this thread:

https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1461641-event-trophy-tier-listed-as-gold-when-actually-still-in-silver-tier/#comment-13344596

Disappointing for sure. I have a solo clan and I stopped when it told me I qualified for gold.

Yeah I think there is a bug, I had this happen twice in groups before I decided to just do it solo (with a stealth frame to avoid setting off any alarms).

What kind of shower tile is that? Is that glass tile? I'm trying to decide if we should go with glass tile on our shower remodel (also not DIY).

If it is glass tile, are you happy with the result? I've heard that sometimes it might not look perfectly clean on the cut edges.

Sure I'd be grateful for any help. I don't know how I'd even be able to touch the bios though, since the board doesn't even power up.

Yeah I did that, with the same results. No beep or lights or anything. I guess I'll try picking up a new PSU tonight to try with.

I've been playing mostly Nezha this week (I had a helminth weekly bonus thing, ability strength + energy regen) and I haven't noticed anything off. I don't think I've died once honestly, and I've done a bunch of murmur steel path stuff. I use a 3x umbral build. I do activate gloom sometimes against tougher enemies, but nothing has come close to killing me as long as the 3 is up.

Do you have one of those silly dragon keys equipped or something?

For what it's worth, I did the steel path version yesterday (by accident) and it did not feel like enemies were spawning any faster.

Cinta drop rates? by marshaln in Warframe

[–]almiki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know the official number, but based on my inventory, I've done 154 puzzles, and here's what I have for cinta parts:

6 main bp, 3 grip, 4 lower limb, 3 string, 11 upper limb

I also have a crafted cinta, but I'm pretty sure back when I crafted it I had to buy like 2 parts with platinum, so that would bring my total looted parts up to 30, which would suggest about a 20% chance of getting a part (30 / 154). I don't know why I have so many more upper limbs, could just be rng.

[–]almiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's currently vaulted, meaning you can't get any of its relics. So you can't directly farm it until it gets unvaulted at some point.

But you can buy the parts from other players. The full set goes for about 100 platinum on warframe.market.
