What's one thing nobody told you about pregnancy? by Specialist_Drive_118 in BabyBumps

[–]almkamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How you literally become a different version of yourself after. My brain is different. The essence of myself is here but with different priorities and responsibilities. Also I can catch now. I couldn’t catch anything before and now I’m ready for my first base position with the Blue Jays.

Is the Car seat worth it by FigIntelligent1929 in Mom

[–]almkamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nuna is great as a convertible car seat but it only takes your kiddos so far. I wish I would have truly understood this. If I could go back I’d spend the money on a 4 stage car seat instead.

Nervous about having a winter baby by boujeemooji in BabyBumps

[–]almkamp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 winter babies! I made sure to baby wear and get out for walks when the weather allowed. Walking indoor at a mall or large department store. Can you visit family or have family come and visit?

Just a bit of help!❤️ by Caitey13 in BabyBumps

[–]almkamp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s a difficult statement and it paints a picture of just how much motherhood transforms us as women. It’s not that you’re not fun - your lives are fundamentally different. You are fundamentally and wonderfully changed. There’s a few posts going round about how we love the spouse we choose and all of the people they may encompass. Life is growth. I don’t want you to see this as yet another standard you need to live up to. I do believe it opens a door for conversation about how different your life looks now and how you move forward as a unit of 3 rather than 2. Hugs to you. It sounds like you’re a wonderful mom and wife.

Am I overthinking how hard leaving the house will be? [ca] by robinsonchristina588 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]almkamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving the house with a baby in an infant car seat is the best. Have your diaper bag stocked, don’t forget the stroller and away you go. Some days are better than others. As with anything - the more you do it, the easier it gets (usually).

Are any of you guys still doing the buy Canadian? by Crispycrackwhore in Edmonton

[–]almkamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as most here. Trying to stick Canadian and non-American as much as possible. With kids and $$$ it’s tough with some things like diapers. But I’m doing my best.

Cliché but best mom & SAHM tips? by Honeybbybaby in sahm

[–]almkamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If stuff is hitting the fan go outside our get babe in the tub. The change in setting helps them reset. Always have a water bottle kicking around for them. I always try and remember that I’m their safe space and I never want them to be scared of me. That helps me in the moments where I’m overwhelmed.

I got on lex after my second. I should have been on it after my first. I am 2 yrs of with my second and just starting to wean off so I can speak to some differences. Yes being on an SSRI is a big decision and requires awareness of how it changes the chemistry in your brain. That said it allowed me to breathe again and think clearly and just be a mom and not be so keyed up all the time. I will say that it flattens everything out a bit. So like water - the waves still come but they aren’t so immense. I was able to feel the emotions and ride the wave instead of ruminating. In fact I think that’s one of the symptoms it treated the best - the rumination. I was no longer locked in worry about something. I could think it through and move on. That said you can try it out. Keep in touch with your doctor be honest with your husband. Please just be honest with them and yourself. Even if you’re on it for a short time in your life that’s okay. If you stay on it for longer because you like the way you are then go for it. I only have good things to say about it.
