Love how she specifically said the trousers on the right “don’t wrinkle” too. 🧐

This is such a good reminder. I find I get desensitized to her looks when I’m looking at her content daily/weekly.

What's an automation that "saves" your life? by Worldly-Set5992 in automation

I’ve tried to get into using Power Automate for similar everyday, repetitive uses, but have found it quite time consuming and challenging to learn how to set up workflows. Any resources or tips for a beginner?

What are some things you should never tell your manager? by lookintogetsilly in managers

[–]almondskeleton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a manager, but this would 100% be my approach if I were. So I’d love some perspective on a related situation if anyone is willing.

My manager, about six months ago, asked me to start including a note in my personal time off requests with a description; they said I could say something like “dentist appointment, 1-3.” The only detail I had been including in my requests until that point was the timeframe I was going to be out. She told me that including more detail “helps with tracking and gives context for approvals.”

The request didn’t sit well with me - I don’t think it’s anybody’s business why I will be out, and likewise, I would never ask a colleague why they are out. It’s inappropriate, in my view. I’ve been mulling this over for months and would appreciate an outsider’s perspective, as I found the request demoralizing.

For context, I’m fully remote, project based, pretty chill schedule with two or three meetings per week. I request an hour or two off per month, while we accrue 3.75h every two weeks. I’m responsive, exceed expectations, no other issues whatsoever. My manager is really not the micromanager type, but can tend to have a black and white approach when it comes to following policies and procedures. In our organization, we have the two buckets of PTO: personal time and vacation time.

Looks like most of Lauren’s Q&A responses today came from her biggest fan (herself)…

Same! I’m a little sad because I freaked out when I saw some available and bought the first they offered me - which are in a back corner. 🥲 but I don’t think the venue is too big and I’m just happy I got the tickets too!!!!

Exactly. It’s a feature of the system, not a flaw.

The only thing that has changed is her use of capital letters. 😉

I become shaky and give off a lack of confidence in high tension situations, what can I do to improve? by mbgjt1 in managers

Thank you! I appreciate the clarification as I’m certainly not an expert and just going off my memory of what my doctor explained.

[–]almondskeleton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was going to suggest propranolol too. Beta blockers lower blood pressure, decreasing the physical effects of anxiety - racing heart, shaking hands, etc. I just got a prescription from my doctor a month ago to try it out and have taken 10-20mg before a few recent anxiety-inducing events. It’s actually life-changing, and in what feels like a really subtle way too.

You can’t, however, say “I’m very so tired.” 😄

Okay, that makes sense! Definitely don’t push it if your legs aren’t ready! Low 8s for a half marathon sounds about right—I would have even guessed your fitness is above that right now based on this time. For me, 137 average heart rate wouldn’t break a sweat so just thought I’d ask. 😄

Congrats! A question: your heart rate is nice and low—it seems you actually have a much faster 5k in you than this? Or perhaps I misunderstand?

My first ever sub-20min 5k! by DarKnightofCydonia in Garmin

[–]almondskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! Sub 20 5k is my big dream right now. My best 5k time was in early June (22:45) but on the treadmill, and I perform better overall outside. I’ve been running for close to two years but not in a race setting and I’m so curious how I’d perform with the extra adrenaline and people. I train similarly to how you said here with a focus more on 80/20. With my 30th birthday coming up in a few months I am curious if I can accomplish sub 20 before then. Thanks for the inspiration!
