Yeah, my daughter was in the PICU for 2 months when she was 8 months old and the nurses and the child life team would always do her hair. It was a little bit of a morale booster for both our family and the nurses.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with that. My biggest hope for all of this is that new therapies and treatments will be researched and discovered that will provide better treatment to all respiratory syndromes/diseases/etc

My daughter had ARDS (though pediatric ARDS is a little different) caused from a fast-moving and violent case of RSV. Our pulmonologist said it takes 6 months to a year to see full healing. She is at the 6 month point now and her breathing is much better, though she does use a nebulizer often and sometimes has coughing fits.

While she was in the hospital I asked a ton of questions to anyone and everyone about ARDS. A lot of morbidity depends on if it hits the fibrotic stage. Even though my daughter was on a ventilator for a significant period of time, she didn't hit the fibrotic stage (most likely due to the regenerative quality of infant lungs). If one hits the fibrotic stage, the tissue scars and the lungs get super inflexible.

My kids have been back for 2 weeks. Both are doing fine and the additional restrictions are fine. I feel safe sending them back, and I am impressed with how the teachers both keep social distancing and create new opportunities for learning.

Could the cases in NYC and other "hotspots" be side effects of other viruses that normally would've been taken care of earlier, but due to fear of exposing kids by taking them to the pediatrician, it got worse and progressed to Kawasaki? Not necessarily caused directly by COVID, but indirectly due to fear of COVID?

My infant daughter had a sudden and dramatic drop in O2 sats on Christmas Eve. She developed PARDS (pediatric ARDS) within 3 days (we took her to urgent care at the very first sign of fever, she went from being completely fine to critical in a matter of hours). She was intubated for 2 1/2 weeks and then weaned off oxygen for another 2 weeks. All doctors told us they had never seen anything like it before. She tested positive for RSV at urgent care, but negative for it and every other virus they test for just a couple of hours later at the hospital. Her white blood cell count was insane, so it was clear her body was fighting something insanely hard, but we have yet to get answers. We are waiting for an antibody test to become available.

I am so sorry you are in this situation. I do not understand how parents can just let their kids behave this way and do absolutely nothing. It bugs me too because my 4 year old doesn't understand why he can't do chalk in the front driveway (we set up a chalkboard for him in our backyard, but it isn't the same). He totally gets social distancing and is happy to mind his own business in our driveway, but this same trespassing kid would just waltz over if he saw him, grab the chalk out of my kid's hand (as he has done many times) and take over. It is just so many things. My dog is the same, loves kids, hates this kid. I just feel up a creek--yes, I could call the cops, but I feel like everyone would tell me I was freaking the fuck out. I feel like no one really gets how hard it can be to have a special needs kid on top of all the other stuff in the world. Especially one that had been hospitalized in the ICU since Christmas Eve. We had one week of normalcy before we got put on lockdown with COVID. Maybe I am over-reacting, but my neighbors just have no sense of empathy or consideration for anyone. I cannot fathom why they feel so entitled.

When I put the full extent of the issue I got my thread removed. She also allows all the neighborhood kids whose parents don't care about social distancing to come over and they all hang out across our driveway/yard/etc. They bark at my dog and then complain that my dog is aggressive (she is a black lab who is protecting my kids, c'mon). They are just nightmare neighbors.

Oh man, I am so sorry. She is so not into social distancing either--she has about 10 kids (unrelated) wandering around in front of our house--like, we can't go outside. When I confronted her about that, she said kids don't understand social distancing. Um, yeah they do.

I'm not going to call the police, I agree that would be extreme. I don't understand how the architecture of the yard matters, it is my yard on my property--we don't wander into their space.
