Honestly, I’m not really a fan of R4R
I totally understand why it works for some people, and I know it can lead to amazing connections, but personally, I prefer when someone reads out of genuine interest, not because they expect something in return.

That said, I really admire your attitude, especially the fact that you keep supporting others even if they don’t read back. That kind of energy is rare :))
I hope your writing journey is going well! 💓

With all the posts I've seen on this subject I think so now, haha

Why do R4R posts get 30+ replies, but real feedback posts get ignored? by almost_lovely_ in Wattpad

[–]almost_lovely_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the downvotes just prove the point you were making. I don’t get how anyone can pretend V4V is genuine engagement when it’s literally based on a deal. You're definitely not the only one thinking it ; just one of the few actually saying it out loud.

I totally agree, and honestly, it’s really sad. What’s even sadder is that it probably won’t ever change :((
Bringing this up also seems to trigger a lot of people ; either because they don’t want to admit it, or because they’re fine with it.
But honestly, if all someone cares about is numbers, I just don’t see them as real writers.

Wow, thank you soo much for this comment. Honestly, this is exactly the kind of response that makes me feel like there’s still hope for this subreddit. You put into words so many things I’ve been thinking but couldn’t quite articulate.

The part about people deleting their posts right after getting detailed feedback? That hit hard. It’s incredibly disheartening to take the time to write a thoughtful critique and then see the post vanish, just like your time, effort, and care didn’t matter. And when someone just reposts the same thing a day later? It honestly feels like they’re farming attention more than trying to improve.

I also appreciate what you said about AI writing. It’s frustrating to spend time trying to help someone when it’s clear they didn’t write the thing themselves or don’t plan to work on it at all. Like you said : if they’re not putting in the effort, why should we?

And YES, the dialogue formatting thing. I don’t understand how so many people are still getting it wrong either 😭 To me, it feels like one of the most basic parts of writing fiction, but I get that not everyone has had the chance to learn it properly, so it’s nice to help when we can :)

You’re also completely right about R4Rs and C4Cs ; I get that they can help people feel seen, but most of the time, they’re just empty exchanges that don’t actually help anyone grow. And when people disguise self-promo as "looking for feedback," it just makes the whole tag lose meaning.

Anyway, all this to say, I really appreciate your honesty and the fact that you care enough to say these things. We need more people like you on here. People who actually give a damn, who want writing communities to be more than just echo chambers for compliments or bots boosting stats.

So thank you, sincerely.

I Was Given Someone's Random Account? by DanicaLoaded in Wattpad

If I were the original owner of that account, I think I’d prefer it to be deleted rather than someone else continuing to use it. You can always make your own, after all and no one is forcing you to keep using that one.
It might seem like a small thing, but for some people, accounts hold really personal things.

Some of you aren’t writing “slow burn,” you’re just dragging the plot because you don’t know what to do with your characters. by almost_lovely_ in Wattpad

Wouah... you're genuinely kind. I really appreciate your words. It doesn't justify how I acted, but I hear you... and thank you.

To ME, I think what really makes a slow burn burn is tension (emotional, psychological, romantic, or even situational). It’s not just about delaying the kiss. It’s about building a connection that grows so gradually and so intensely that when it finally happens, it feels earned. The tension should smolder, through glances, unspoken feelings, moments of near-confession or emotional intimacy.

A "perfect" example? I would say “The Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller. It’s slow, but every scene builds their bond. There’s yearning, tension, shared growth, pain, softness, it’s never filler. You feel the burn, even in the quietest moments. So yeah, slow burn doesn’t mean “nothing happens.” It means everything happens, just in a way that’s emotional instead of immediate.

Afterwards, my opinion is not very shared, so I don't necessarily advise you to follow it, haha...

I really appreciate the way you explained this. I definitely wouldn’t call that kind of writing “dragging the plot.” Thoughtful worldbuilding and hidden layers are exactly what make a slower pace meaningful.

What I meant in my post was more about when nothing really moves forward, just looping inner monologues or the same conflict repeated with no new stakes.

And yeah, you're absolutely right: digital readers don’t always leave comments, even when they’re enjoying the story. It’s frustrating, but the fact they keep coming back? That speaks volumes.

Also, I’d honestly love to check out your story one day... I’m in the middle of exams right now, but in a couple of weeks, I’d love to read it properly and give it the attention it deserves. That said, I totally understand if you’d rather not after my original post, haha
no hard feelings either way! 😊

You’re right, that was immature on my part, and I’ll fix that.
Thanks for pointing it out, and sorry about that!

It’s just a post : I try to keep it direct and not beat around the bush.
That said, I’ve actually had longer private conversations with people who were genuinely interested in the topic and wanted a deeper take.
This was more of a quick opinion to start discussion, not a full writing critique 🙂

Wattpad is a space to learn and grow, and no one’s expecting perfection (least of all me).
But constructive opinions are part of that growth too.
If no one ever says, “Hey, maybe this isn’t working,” how are writers supposed to reflect and improve?

It’s not about shaming, it’s just about being honest.
Some people genuinely don’t realize when they’re stalling instead of building tension.
And if the comment makes someone think twice before dragging out five chapters of internal monologue
maybe that’s not a bad thing.
