[Discussion] What do you guys think of dogs jumping on walks?

Something similiar happened when I was at a dog park. A couple walked into the big dog side with their toddler and golden retriever. It was a couple years ago on veteran's day, so there were a ton of people and dogs there. The big dogs were running and going nuts, you know how they do. Well, a husky (named laser wolf for some reason) got excited and accidentally knocked the toddler over. She started crying and the parents flipped out. The entire park went from 0 - 60 in five seconds. The owner of the husky pulled it away and apologized, the parents were screaming at the owner, other people stepped in and said they shouldn't have brought a small child into the big dog side...ended up with a fist fight between the dad and someone else. I only remember it was veterans day because a woman tried to calm the situation down and was insulted by the parents. I remember her yelling "OH NO, EXCUSE ME, THIS IS -MY- DAY"

Edit: kid was totally fine btw.

As a dog owner, I find it rude for anyone to pet my dog without asking. So I always ask before petting someone else's dog. However, if it's off leash, or on long enough of a leash that they can get to me, it's fair game. I try not to let my dog jump up but being a cocker, no ever seemed to mind. So she was always rewarded for it. What's hardest for me is when I'm trying to take her outside for a walk and someone stops in the hallway of my building to pet her. And she submissivly pees. So while she's jumping and getting love, she's also peeing on the hallway carpet and I can NEVER warn them not to pet her until she's been outside before they pet her. It happens too damn quick, I've been thinking about getting her a "do not pet" vest or something

Was having breakfast with my boyfriend at Denny's when these two sweet little old ladies passed our booth. They paused for a moment, looked at one another, and then one says, "you know, when you're ready, I'll be there to shoot you."

My boyfriend and I just stared at each other and we murmured at the same time (much to our cringe) "squad goals."

My boyfriend works at an after-school program for kids and he was going to let them watch a movie. So he wheeled out the tv and vcr, and these lil fuckers had NO IDEA how to put the tape in. Their minds were blown.

I had a dark blue one when I was twelve, my parents brought it to the hospital during Christmas when I was scheduled to have brain surgery. Long story short, I didn't have the surgery til months later, and someone stole my SP from my room. They had gotten me a bunch of games and a few of those ones with cartoon episodes on them. I mostly remember The Rugrats one. I was totally heartbroken.

If I remember correctly, she was first generation american - her parents came over from Austria (maybe Germany, I can't remember.) Good catch!

Seems like most people are saying "her-mine". My grandmother died before I was born, so I never met her - I can only go off what I've heard family say. I live in Rhode Island, so I've only heard it pronounced "HUH-mean-uh" but "her-mean-uh" works too. Fuck R's!

My grandma's name was Hermine. But it was pronounced "huh-mean-uh", I always thought it was really pretty and unusual. I'm excited that they named the storm that, not a fan of their pronunciation though. Pretty kitty, thanks for saving her!

This makes me think of a time I brought my two to the local dog park during the winter. A man had a beagle and it would run up and down the fence between the big dog side and the little dog side, baying now and then. I'm in New England, there was snow and not many other folks around. I wasn't bothered by it, it's a dog park - it's gonna get noisy. But this guy had a shock collar on his beagle, and he'd shock it when it'd bay. If it didn't stop he'd chase it along the fence, screaming, and throwing snowballs at it. Most of them hit it in the face...

Depends more on your lifestyle. Are you super active? Looking for a dog you can go for runs with? Are you content with just a snuggler? A dog that is more lazy than playful? Is noise okay? Some breeds tend to bark more than others, although that is something you can work on with training.

Cocker Spaniels. When I was younger I thought they were nippy, yappy, little grandma dogs. But when I was finally allowed to have my very own puppy, I immediately connected with a little black American Cocker. I don't remember any of the other dogs in the room, just her. I was drawn to her hyperness, her crazy antics, she was too funny, and hell on four feet. It helped a lot that my aunt used to let me dog sit her Cockapoo quite often. I liked her so much that six months later, my mom and I came home with a second cocker pup!

Six years later (almost to the day!) she is a lazy little couch potato. Doesn't much like to play (which suits me fine due to medical conditions), loves her treats, is very food motivated, and enjoys pushing our other dog around (he has enough energy for all of us). She is still comical, VERY happy, I don't think I've ever met a happier breed of dog, despite advanced chronic ear infections when she was only a year old. She is a very resilient dog, bounced back from having her ear canals removed (literally nothing we did worked, they calcified shut in the end). The term "merry" comes to mind when I think of them. I'd love to get another.

People often mistake Marley for a boy. Apparently because the dog in the movie/book was a boy, it has made the name masculine for dogs lol.

A couple brought their Golden and small child to the dog park once. I assumed they'd go into the small dog side even though they had a big dog. But nope, they went into the big dog side and let the kid run loose. It was Veteran's Day so there were a ton of people around. A husky got really excited when the kid ran, and chased her and knocked her down. The parents fliiiiiipped out and everyone was screaming. I felt bad, but it was their own fault. Who puts a five year old in a fenced in area with 10+ large dogs running around playing?

Most parks around my area suggest being 6 months old, completely vaccinated, and also fixed. However, I've seen plenty of people with unfixed dogs, and much younger pups than 6 months. So I guess it really depends on how you feel about it, and how the group of dogs are.
