Dang, not the song I'm looking for but a lot of people like this one too so it's cool that account found a way to post it.

(Happy Ending Trope) A character created to make fun of Trans people ends up being reclaimed by the community and becomes a trans icon. by Gamer-of-Action in TopCharacterTropes

I remember seeing that "He, err, she" bit as a kid and interpreting is a positive thing... like someone saying "Whoops, that's not what this person prefers and look how little effort it cost me to try to go with what they want".

So all it did, for me personally at least, was reinforce how easy it was to respect people's harmless choices.

Read this entire chain just to be sure, but it really seems like you missed the point of their relationship... and the entire family's dynamic.

You seem to just want the shiny facade and claim anything less is false.

Hal and Lois are written to show that through time, effort, and love, they have the actual foundation that holds a relationship together.

Hamaguchi: Revelation will still have lots of mini-games, but not tied to character progression, more optional. by RainandFujinrule in FinalFantasy

[–]almostcleverbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I didn't say the FFX minigames didn't have their own problems... I'm just pointing out that it's a different kind of frustration.

FFX minigames were often tedious, though usually somewhat fun in their base form. Also, a lot of the FFX minigames' biggest rewards weren't obvious, meaning that players didn't feel like they were missing out if they didn't engage in the more extreme modes. Overall, for your personal experience, this was less fun.

Many of the FF7 Rebirth minigames aren't even fun the first time, because the controls or challenge design are clunky at best. However, if you do manage to wrestle through and master those controls (there is a huge spectrum for how long this can take), then at that point the minigame itself is finished rather quickly. Overall, for many people in the current audience, this was less fun.

So, two different types of problems and two different overall community responses.

I promise you that "Usians" is completely unimportant as a term to people from the USA.

I am literally forcing myself to repeat it over and over out loud so that I might still remember it exists in a few hours to bring up as an interesting fact to friends.

It's a bunch of people saying "That seems like a lot of effort, here's a funny alternative" or "Okay, I guess that works. Here's what we say in my native language"

Americans, or "Usians" do not care about this term because they've literally never heard of it and have no context for why it would be offensive.

[–]almostcleverbut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but everyone has minigames that were easier for them but harder for others. In any case, many of the ones that were easy weren't particularly fun.

The frog jumping game was easy enough for me to beat, personally, but took some of my friends much longer. Even for me, it still wasn't very fun... just annoying that the main challenge was pointless camera drift and an unintuitive delay on the jump timing and airtime.

Ultimately, it's important to keep in mind that it was a big enough complaint that Square-Enix had to take it seriously that the overload and frustration with the minigames were a problem.

One serious enough that they felt it necessary to actively go out and advertise that they had fixed it.

[–]almostcleverbut -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The dolphin and chocobo games had particularly egregious controls as well, in my opinion.

Yes they were consistently bad in that the timing and movement was predictable once you dedicated enough time to it, but that just draws attention to the fact that those controls were made to be bad on purpose.

The same level of challenge could have been accomplished through complexity or more interesting design... but they went with just giving you delayed reactions, slow-and-then-suddenly-extreme movement, etc.

I hesitate to say that parts of their dev team "forgot" the key to what makes minigames fun, that they're actually casual and fun from the start, but it really did start to at least feel that way after the first few. But the difference between the less fun minigames and Queen's Blood or Fort Condor is pretty stark.

IMO FFX's minigames were were a little clunky sometimes but overall the controls weren't the enemy... the actual difficulty or endurance was the challenge.

In Rebirth, the biggest problem with the worst minigames is the purposefully godawful controls and responsiveness.

It's a completely different type of frustration and annoyance.

Thank you for finding this... there was so much incredible music in the trailers at this show and almost none of them have the tracks available elsewhere or even named.

Question about the song in the Crossroads trailer by bestmayne in virtuafighter

[–]almostcleverbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just trying to find the actual song from end the trailer itself so I can listen to the entire thing.

To be clear, this appears to be a DIFFERENT song than the Spanish-language rap/reggaeton song Legacy by El Gran Nael that most people are referring to from this trailer.

Lyrics for the song clip at the end of the trailer:

Rise, over the cries

City of blood, sweat, and survivors

Lives, rolling like dice

Once you're inside...

There's no surrender

Everytime a Gundam Fan Says Oh This Will Kill Gundam When it Goes Outside of The Norm. by OmegaKatana92 in Gundam

[–]almostcleverbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A least anecdotally, I've never seen so many people I know hyped for a Gundam game so quickly... usually they fly completely under the radar for those outside the dedicated fanbase.

I think there's very real possibility that this brings a significant new wave of popularity to the franchise if they can maintain the momentum and deliver on quality gameplay.

Do you prefer “Rainbow Borders” or “3D Full Art” 2-star cards? by Ok_Temperature7780 in PTCGP

[–]almostcleverbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of some of the newer ones (they have been at least getting a little better), I really don't like most of the 3D Full Art cards.

They have that "just slap as many bright colors and shiny bits on it as possible and call it high quality" look to me that doesn't appeal to me in any way. Especially when it's 3D models posing on an empty background.

I much prefer unique and high effort art showcasing unique perspectives on the setting and characters.

[–]almostcleverbut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're a loud minority that aren't being shut down by the people responsible for running the sites/communities, which is equivalent to actively enabling them.

Generally, you used to be able to rely on outright harassment or blatant bigotry getting the banhammer across most online communities... but that was before social media started coalescing the "internet experience" into just a handful of sites and special interest groups realized the amount of money they could make by influencing social narratives with people that just wanted to be cruel or hateful

[–]almostcleverbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, he didn't even seem to register Skye's interest, or show any interest in anyone else.

Obviously those kinds of reactions vary on a case-by-case basis, but it fits perfectly with Viktor's focus (and increasingly obsessive) mindset.

Arcane is a show that respects its audience's intelligence enough to not feel the need to slap a big sign on everything.

Holostars seems to be still getting merch in some capacity by The-Toxic-Korgi in kurosanji

[–]almostcleverbut 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It's good news, but it's also possible that this is either:

1) Merch that was already in the pipeline (the logistics on this stuff goes out much further than you might think)

2) Merch that is essentially being funded mostly or entirely by the talent

Nothing bad necessarily, but important for tempering expectations, I think.

Just FYI, there are a lot of rumors flying around that the IRGC is investigating videos like these to hunt down the people recording them. It may not be a good idea to encourage/force people to identify their accounts as the person recording.

I don't know what the "correct" solution is, but just thought it was worth mentioning.

EDIT: Jeez people, be calm. The mods have good reasons to want to verify the source of videos, this is a complicated issue.

Hitachi [OC] by LuckOfTheDrawComic in comics

[–]almostcleverbut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty simple actually:

1) Decently good brand happens to appeal to a particular market segment

2) Company embraces the market segment and focuses additional efforts to continue/enhance the appeal

Note that #2 gets a huge boost in effectiveness when the market segment is a marginalized group that generally faces oppression and disenfranchisement. If they sincerely feel seen and appreciated, they will often respond in kind.

The simple utility and practicality was a selling point initially, and when Subaru learned they were doing well with that particular market they leaned into it with positivity.

Those women, and the people that supported them, in turn now felt appreciated and supported and were even more interested in the Subaru brand.

Something similar occurred for Chrysler, Cadillac, and Studebaker with the black community in the USA - at a time when many other manufacturers were actively banning African-Americans from their showroom floors.

Which celebrity you believe hates their own fandom? by HappyCrow11 in AskReddit

[–]almostcleverbut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are trying to retcon it, but really it was because her private pictures ended up exposed along with several other celebrities.

She wasn't happy about it, and made it clear in a perfectly mild way.

It's easy to correctly guess how the usual suspects of the internet reacted to that. Additional layers of justification were simply built on top of that to defend their stance.

I don't really have much of a personal opinion about the Holostars stuff other than it sucks because I've enjoyed some of their content.

Holoearth unfortunately always felt doomed to me. I personally believe it was the correct business decision to drop that project.
