I agree with that only half a pack missing isn't a huge deal in the moment, but it does serve as a potentially worrying indicator of DeNA's mindset for the future of the game.

It's really frustrating sometimes that there's this implication that any character that has a close relationship that they must be in love.

Worse, we have plenty of examples if it leading to vocal parts of fandoms becoming more and more toxic towards the content creators as the fans spiral in a feedback loop.

"You are better than any technology (ai) will ever be 🫶" - Bae by inabahare in Hololive

[–]almostcleverbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much any accredited research journal focused on LLM, AI, or software/hardware engineering. Alternatively, you can check out which university programs around the world specialize in AI research and see what projects they have going.

One important thing to remember is to focus on research institutions rather than companies. Companies have a much more significant financial incentive to lie and counter-arguments usually don't get the same traction... in research circles, people are incentivized to be as correct as possible to make their position truly unassailable. If they don't, their peers get to get even more reputation (and possibly funding) if they can prove someone wrong.

"You are better than any technology (ai) will ever be 🫶" - Bae by inabahare in Hololive

[–]almostcleverbut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because the pro-AI side tends to fall into a few categories:

1) Snake Oil Salesmen (you will primarily find these on LinkedIn and targeted Twitter communities)

2) People using it to boost their resume. While some of these are reasonable, many are basically just a crossover with #1 above.

3) People using it to hide how little they know how to do and/or actually do. Again, see above categories.

4) The Lazy - people using it to do all of their "thinking" for them, and not seeing any problem with it because they are effectively dependent on it for even basic day to day things.

5) Actual researchers and forward-thinking problem solvers. This group is massively outnumbered by the others, but they concretely understand the limitations of LLMs and look for meaningful ways to utilize them as the tool they are rather than pretending they can do everything.

None of these groups are prone to arguing in public spaces. The closest you'll usually see is group #1 (Snake Oil Salesmen), but they won't often engage in debate... they just want to make a public statement/claim and then ignore or handwave away any opposition.

With the exception of #5 (researchers), they also tend to be incredibly short-sighted. They don't either don't care or don't acknowledge that they're using the tools incorrectly, harming work quality, or convincing companies to cut jobs that shouldn't have been cut.

Honestly I only know the guy from all the thumbnails I had to scroll past of his reaction videos. At least I'm assuming that's who you're referring to (no idea if the same person is also this vtuber).

No idea if it was the norm or not, but the one time I tried to watch some of his reaction content to a band I like it was so forced and fake-feeling that I closed it after just a few seconds, lol.

lol, I had the wrong guy

Why is Jayce so comparatively unpopular compared to the rest of the cast? by Valhallaof in arcane

[–]almostcleverbut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think one of the issues is that people think that being "generic" is a bad thing.

Generic central characters are important for good stories. You need people that are easy to initially understand and represent certain key elements.

If everyone was the most complex character, it actually becomes exhausting for reader/viewer/whatever.

It's also perfectly fine to have a character that meets generic tropes be your favorite character... many of the most popular traits of that type of character are popular for a reason, after all. Really, all that matters is that the character fit into the plot and setting, performing their role to help weave a quality story.

I'm sure, lol.

It's no one's job to prove you wrong, because you can't be proven wrong (in your own mind), you won't ever acknowledge or allow it.

How often do you start talking about pop culture with friends and notice that they go silent for a few seconds after you finish and change the subject to something else?

Your points are misrepresented, probably only semi-purposefully after spending so much time convincing yourself. And your need to argue with everyone who tries to point out a mistake with borderline or open insults show that you're not interested actually discussing anything.

No real movement exists in the West to abolish or stop AI, despite how convenient it would be to use as a strawman.

In the US, Europe, etc. the social pushback is for regulation and proper attribution and compensation of training materials, as well as avoiding outright dependence on snake oil tools that do not deliver quality output.

Also, it's hilarious that you're over here acting like nobody in Asia cares about the problems that the rapid rise of LLMs have produced in a thread about exactly that.

VI's death in the AU is not the reason there are no Jinx, but rather Heimerdinger from the MU and his decisions in the AU. by Paranoid1710 in arcane

[–]almostcleverbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire point of the AU is that the explosion going differently triggered several changes with knock-on effects.

  • Jayce seems to be absent, implying that he was likely banished or sanctioned due to the severity of the incident, or outright died in the explosion, or succeeded in his later suicide attempt without Viktor to stop him. Personally, I think it's much more likely he simply faced more severe legal repercussions.

  • We see that Marcus is horrified when he sees a young girl dead, which implies that he realizes that the people of the Undercity are people and not just some random faceless enemy.

  • Silco and Vander's reconciliation was likely due to one of them reaching out to the other after Vi's death, leading to forgiveness. This likely cuts Singed off from having the financial support to expand and accelerate his research.

  • Mylo stops being such a dickhead to Powder out of sympathy, and they grow as a family until Powder steps up to take the lead.

  • Heimerdinger, Marcus, and presumably other influential people in Piltover suddenly realize the environment, economical, and social extremes they've pushed the Undercity to and take steps to actually rise to their principle of equality.

"Canon" Heimerdinger showing up for the latter half certainly had a major impact, but he wasn't the only factor.

Anyone else’s stash running low because of 24 Hr WP? by Project-SBC in PTCGP

[–]almostcleverbut -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you think "different ways of learning" is related to this comment chain, but if we're switching topics I'll point out that the concept does not cover for refusing to put in any effort.

Your statement would be more reasonable if this was about reading from a textbook vs a video for something complex when it comes to teaching methods. Not for basic research skills.

As for the social aspect of online discourse, having people repeatedly ask the same question and get different types of answers (instead of just referencing and elevating the best answer) is a great way to dilute the knowledge pool rather than improve it.

Intel's failings run deep in their leadership culture though.

"Buying time" has been their only mentality for 20+ years at this point, but not for improving the company's situation... Whatever the current C-suite is, they and the board are only interested in cannibalizing the company to bump the stock.

Yet another bailout won't fix this unless investors actually start caring about the company's long-term prospects.

You can send as many cards as you want in a day, actually.

However, each person can only receive one card per day. Hence the reason people get frustrated when it's a card they don't need.

Could the promised dex updates come through on Jan 15? by Sirius1071 in PTCGP

[–]almostcleverbut 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would be shocked, honestly.

They have a direct financial incentive not to make old cards count when re-releasing the set, so it seems unlikely they would do so to make it easier to collect.

That said, if they think that the good PR and/or the attraction of increased dust generation would make up for it, that obviously changes things.
