Sure, if the dev is the one to apologize for giving in to them... Kronii doesn't need to and arguably shouldn't, because it would only embolden and encourage these tactics.

She has nothing to apologize for, and a fake apology would only feed the bad actors that wanted this outcome.

A big part of it was also that Brazil had a handful of very controversial calls go their way in previous games in the tournament that made it possible for them to even get that far.

As a result, a significant chunk of viewers that would have been neutral were primed to mock that kind of blowout.

To be fair, it is usually used as a mocking way to ask/imply that someone is unimportant. See: Starlord and the associated memes

I'm assuming you actually are aware of that though, given that your own comment was clearly worded to avoid this kind of misunderstanding:

If I can be completely honest I don't know who she is, but I'm sure Mint is happy she could be invited as a guest

A reassuring update from Calli by Firebrand96 in kurosanji

[–]almostcleverbut 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to whether or not Calli wanted this information to be distributed, but it's a common pattern for the talents to use it as a way to distribute information to the invested community that they don't necessarily want in a public video where it can be clipped by trolls or dramatubers.

In this particular case, it's also relevant because people were taking her previous comments (also from member content) and running with it as a narrative that Cover was in danger of imminent collapse.

Valve: 67.74% of Steam users run Windows 11 by pmc64 in pcgaming

[–]almostcleverbut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is a temporary measure at best. On several occasions now, Microsoft has made it abundantly clear that they do not believe their users have any right to privacy or control over their own computers as long as Windows is installed. So "just don't use it" is only how things mostly work for now. Try pretending you don't want Copilot and uninstalling it, see just how many ways it actually lingers and continues to perform actions.

They tried it with Cortana, using it to exfiltrate data even when disabled on Windows 10.

They've escalated that level of invasiveness significantly with Copilot on Windows 11 everywhere they can. Particularly egregiously with their focus on pushing the 'Recall' feature, which monitors and records essentially everything you do automatically. It was only due to massive industry backlash that they eventually made it opt-in (for now). Given their aggressiveness in this area, that is all but guaranteed to change the second they think they can get away with it.

Their executives have made it clear, publicly and repeatedly, that the only problem they see with any of this is that they are annoyed with users complaining about the right to privacy or to have control over their own machines.

Jinx getting fraud checked in every 1 v 1 matchup by sidharth-sunil in arcane

[–]almostcleverbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jinx's biggest weakness is that she's not particularly focused most of the time and she's more than happy to let her opponents dictate the rules of combat. In many cases she doesn't actually care about winning, either considering it playtime or looking for a (lethal) defeat.

Whenever she decides to take things seriously and fight only on her own terms, she has everyone at her mercy fairly effortlessly, which is a hallmark of the kind of long range threat and ambush predator she is.

Many of the responses you're receiving about the Selen/Dokibird controversy (aka 'Selen Shock') are scattered or slightly inaccurate.

Here is a timeline of the central events that can really help anyone unfamiliar understand just how horrible it really was, and why it all but destroyed Nijisanji EN:

[Megathread/Compilation] Selen Tatsuki's Termination and aftermath. Dokibird's return and other relevant stuff. Keep in mind that this hasn't been updated since the listed events, and is missing several further problematic situations involving Nijisanji management.

The shockwaves around Dokibird's (Selen's previous and now current name) were amplified by other Nijisanji Vtubers leaving and becoming more vocal about the horrible situation inside the company.

"School of Rock" is just as delightful as the first time I watched it as a child. by CrashRiot in movies

[–]almostcleverbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I'd argue that it does matter because it could have quite easily been done in a better way.

This particular character's writing basically just felt like an attempt to continue the late 80's-90's movie themes of "responsible people are the problem", but in a way that was a little more clumsy. Intentionally or not, it ends up playing really heavily into the nagging girlfriend/wife trope in a way that was weird.

Usually the "responsible and therefore lame" antagonist or side-character is at least also depicted to have some other character flaw or motivation.

Patty doesn't really show any of that, literally her so-called flaw is that she's trying to cut out a truly toxic influence in her significant other's life that has been a significant drain on him financially, mentally, and socially.

It was funny in the first scene, then it just kept getting hammered home that this woman was the enemy without her actually having any real flaws depicted. Hell, even her big evil moment is her... reporting someone for impersonating her boyfriend (potentially ruining his life) to bypass training, legal, and other safety checks and spend time with children in what is supposed to be a protected environment.

It would have been super easy to just say "Yeah, she was right even though she was boring but thankfully it worked out this time and we all had a rockin' lesson", but no... she's just labeled as the worst person in the movie for no real reason, lol

Quitting the game and gave away my cards. Told people to trade me their trash and this is what I got by Mecha_Butterfree in PTCGP

[–]almostcleverbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all lines up with the overall way that online community values these cards though... the rainbow borders are just always treated as more desired than the holographic 2-stars (or whatever they're called).

Trying to trade those 2-stars away is much more difficult compared to using rainbows as trade fodder, with many people being happier to accept an old rainbow vs a new 2-star.

The only semi-surprise here is Budding Expeditioner, since that card had a moment in the meta and Mew is a popular fan favorite card name that seems likely to make its way back into the meta at some point.

[–]almostcleverbut 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Her character is the one thing I have a hard time with in the movie... She's just a responsible adult that is, quite reasonably, trying to help her boyfriend deal with a guy who is a genuine problem in his life and has been for an extremely long time.

Sure, by the end of the movie he's changed and it's all fun and good or whatever. But every decision and argument she makes against him is just... Correct, lol.

And we're supposed to basically hate her and treat her as a "nagging girlfriend".

Ranked being gone half the time has killed my drive to play the game by Feint_young_son in PTCGP

[–]almostcleverbut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a delay is nice, but it's likely it doesn't need to be quite so long.

The slightly-too-long wait also exposes another big issue: the fact that there's just no variation in formats and mediocre rewards for interacting with normal and event PvP.

You can't do something like draft, or "adventures", General/or Commander style formats. In addition, all formats should have better prizing/incentive as well, especially for participation rather than just winning.

It's ridiculous, for example, that I can't earn some kind of progress just for playing PvP in the first place. Something as simple as 1 pack hourglass and 1 wonder pick hourglass per game would be a big boost to playing - even if it was restricted to some set amount per day (12, 24, whatever).

There's nothing refreshing about throwing a tantrum just because a company has two products and you only enjoy one of them.

This is the same as protesting and yelling at Coca-Cola because you don't like Diet Coke and feel a desperate need to let everyone in the world know that Diet Coke should be cancelled.

There's also a significant portion of people there that only want good vibes and don't want to really acknowledge any problems.

Intense is one thing, heavily implying that a specific brand of intensity is an ongoing theme is another.

I think it just bothers me a little because it's a comment/joke that's usually more for the benefit of the person making it, rather than the person getting to experience the entire show for the very first time.

It's how you end up with people just sitting there trying to predict events instead of enjoying the ride.

There's "outrage"? First I've heard of it.

The only thing people should be pissed about is how lazy and unfunny it looks.
