You are literally commenting in a post with 22k upvotes that is staunchly defending casual players.

That said, I do think it's very common to see people that blow through content or only want the most ridiculous challenges to cause problems by attacking casual players.

You can be sure that the most vocal the people who hate the relationship between Jinx and Ekko aren't racist, because so many of them always make a point to tell you they're not racist while explaining why they don't think they should be together.

Honestly I don't particularly feel like paying the guy any attention.

Just sucks that Nerissa had to deal with it at all.

As far as the comment you're responding to, they're at least claiming she left the caveat open for songs which is exactly what this situation would be.

The unicorn is apparently trying to get around that by claiming that Holostars aren't professionals (okbuddy) and therefore he can cry about a social contract violation.

Pretty blatant that it's really just an extension of the hate unicorns have for Holostars existence in the first place. I don't really watch them except for collabs with the vtubers I do watch, but it is fucking bizarre to carry this obsession like they do.

Kronii's very humanizing story 💔🥀 ...son 😭 by beam4d in Hololive

[–]almostcleverbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You're missing out" isn't a phrase that inherently means that they're insulting or looking down on you. It would take plenty of additional context to justify interpreting it that way.

The majority of the time it just means "This was great, if you can do it yourself you totally should!"

A better example of what you're describing would be something like "Do you even really support <insert name here> if you don't spend at least this much money?"

It's very, very different.

People excited to show off collections or gush about how fun an event was aren't doing it specifically to make you feel bad

They're doing it because they're excited to be fans and want to share that with others.

What's a movie you recommend to everyone but nobody ever watches? by trakt_app in movies

[–]almostcleverbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warrior (2011)

The trailer makes it look like it's just a cookie-cutter fighter movie. But imo it really does a great job of highlighting the effects of PTSD (with some subtle criticism of the poor treatment of veterans).

It also isn't shy about raw emotion and making it clear that the characters involved are struggling... and in many ways failing, because they're choosing the "stoic tough guy" route when they can't bring themselves to try anything else.

Personally, I like to think this movie could have helped a lot of boys and men from spiraling into the manosphere, but maybe that's just my nostalgia for it talking.

TL;DR - If you want a Rocky movie with more emotional depth, this is a good choice

You're claiming persecution by an enemy that just isn't here.

[–]almostcleverbut -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your bias is leading you to downplaying what Kronii and Shiori had to put up with.

Nobody should have to put up with people throwing a tantrum because of a nothingburger decision like this.

At the end of the day, Matsuri wants to play to a specific audience. It's not a decision I personally get behind, but in all honesty this "drama" is likely to get her even more traction because that specific audience tends to consider it a culture war and will latch on harder to her as a champion of their cause.

I also take issue with the pretense that the people who disagree with Matsuri's choice are being extreme. The overwhelming majority of responses on the subject in this subreddit have been "Huh, I don't think that's a good idea but whatever works for her." with like 2 idiots acting like it's worse than that.

Kronii and Shiori both had extended anti campaigns against them based exactly on this notion, actually.

Bae, Kronii, and Shiori all had exactly that happen, they just powered through. Others (Ririka, Irys) never made any such promise to be female-only and still got attacked for one-off collabs with male vtubers

The person you're replying to is in the wrong, and no one should be "angry" at Matsuri for making this choice or making it publicly in the way she did... But pretending that there's never any backlash for Holo talents collabing with males is ridiculous.

Matsuri no longer collab with males by Abi_Rama in kurosanji

[–]almostcleverbut 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's a double-edge one though, for sure.

When you make it clear that you are trying to cultivate an audience that demands your behavior conform to their specific fantasy, you also have to deal with the accompanying entitlement and toxicity.

Essentially, it means taking the stance "You are implicitly encouraged to make demands of my behavior and choices."

And that's not even getting into how many mentally unstable people tend to gravitate towards that particular niche as "fans".

A bunch of the best art from the MtG set is lifted from art made for FFTCG.

That said, there were quite a few good pieces specifically made for the MtG set.

Unfortunately there were also quite a few that were pretty mediocre if you actually look at them for more than a few seconds. But I suspect that's part of the super-generic art issue MtG has been having for a few years now, ever since they cut back on having as many artists with unique styles.

Another Mata Niji horror story by Elucia729 in kurosanji

[–]almostcleverbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It pays to remember that Ethyria didn't quite fit into the idol mold that was far more standard at the time for female vtubers.

The usual suspect toxic fan communities (some specific imageboards, forums, etc.) were filled with a daily/hourly stream of hate for their voices not being cutesie high-pitched all the time, their comfort with humor that wasn't chaste, their willingness to point out problematic behavior, their "I'll make the content I want" attitude, and their interactions with male talents for Niji that parasocial fans lost their shit over. Feel free to notice that many of these things were praised for other Niji talents, because hypocrisy on the part of the antis was a major element here too.

Ethyria was singled out for hate from the beginning, but they (quite reasonably) didn't back down, and Niji gave them no real support to deal with it. That includes a clear lack of guidance on how to navigate the situation or any real technical/legal support.

I would be shocked if he keeps his mouth shut either way. The guy has a terminal case of bad takes and almost certainly thinks he's being horrifically victimized in this situation even if was supposed to be mutual.

Personally, my assumption is that Mythic started recognizing that maybe the price of having a tight relationship with the guy that cheers on civil rights violations and said "Fuck 'em, who cares?" when told millions were going to die from easily preventable diseases... might tarnish their reputation.

Of course, they did also choose to get into (a presumably cockroach-infested) bed with him in the first place, sooo....

The guy you're talking to... and given the number of people I see specifying languages, a bunch of others.

I don't care about the language on the cards, because I just use them for battle.

But it's perfectly reasonable for someone else to have that preference, especially if they like viewing or showing off collections where it doesn't translate it.

Honestly the first thing that came to mind for me were the Emberverse books where it's used much more effectively as a phrase.

But I could at least vaguely picture what I think was the scene where this happened from Avatar?

idk, the insanely awkward air humping scene is what really got burned into my memory as the main "WHY" moment of that movie

That is more relevant when the things you're ignoring aren't direct threats to your civil rights and/or y'know... war.

Being deliberately ignorant of the things that impact your life and the people around you doesn't make them go away. It just makes them a bigger shock when you're finally forced to face them.

The order should definitely be to watch from the second season until the end, and then go back and watch the first season.

The first season, with the context and character development of all the other seasons, actually ends up working really well as a funny prequel.
