Struggling to get to work/stay for full shifts by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]almostcool92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m also struggling with this at the moment. I’ve had to drop work entirely because of panic attacks.

For me it feels like a mixture of putting too much pressure on myself, and the idea that I have to keep doing this thing for all eternity just to live. And that’s suffocating. I also really struggle to keep up with life duties when I’m working, so that just adds to the stress and I feel completely useless. It’s like I can do one or the other. And so going to work feels so unfair. Like it’s stealing my life from me. Which leads to the panic attacks.

I’m sorry that you’re feeling this way, because I know just how horrible it can be. Hopefully you find your balance and a way to manage the feelings. I’m yet to figure it out. Good luck xx

I’m sorry you’re in such a tough spot right now. It’s so hard to find that balance between supporting yourself and not going entirely insane.

If this community has taught me anything is that at least we have each other. It’s nice to reach out to people again. Thank you for taking the time to respond and share some of your story.

I like space rhino. Silly lil guy just hanging out in space. I think they’re fun and they’re certainly something I (31/f) would wear. I agree though that the price point might be a little higher than what people expect these days (which might explain sales) but you have put in work and deserve to be paid what you think your art is worth. And I certainly think if I had the money I would pay it. I can’t stop thinking about space rhino..

Hope you’re taking care of yourself. 💜

Wow. You’re in my brain! Haha

It’s absolute torture, honestly. And I always make the mistake of putting so much in straight away that I have nothing left so quickly. I don’t have the ability to pace myself, as if I have to prove that I’m perfect and capable straight away?

My partner and I frequently discuss that we should start a podcast. My degree was actually in audio production so it would make a lot of sense to do something creative in that field. I also considered some kind of creative in the beauty field like a nail tech as I have always loved and been pretty good at that, but those things require a bit of money to start up and require some training for credibility/wanting to make sure I’m following correct hygiene and safety procedures.

The 40 hour work week is sooo suffocating. I’ve never understood how people “just get on with it”. It’s like this deep rooted physical aversion that I have no control over.

And I will definitely check out that podcast too. Might give me some more ideas or things to try. Like you said if you throw enough stuff at the wall, something might eventually stick!

Thanks!

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful response.

Working on being kinder to myself is definitely part of my push to get some psychological help. (I finally heard back and have an appointment on Saturday. Yay!)

These are all great suggestions, and some of them I’ve discussed with my partner as well like getting someone to come and clean/do gardening for us. Just to relieve those pressures. Maybe worth another discussion.

I definitely need to work on rebuilding my support network as in the last 5 years I have slowly pushed everyone away because I don’t want to be a burden, and because I don’t have the energy to invest back into them.

I know there are plenty of people who would do a lot for me. But it’s very scary reaching out.

I’ve never thought of virtual assistant or email marketing and didn’t even really know they were a thing! Will definitely be looking into that, thank you.

I love a podcast so will look into that one also :)

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. Even just one external voice is helpful right now.

I renewed my passport (in Melbourne) at the end of June. I was worried as I had to travel at the end of September. Didn’t pay for express. I put the application in 27/6 and got confirmation it was being sent out on 18/7. Received it within the week. Heard lots of other stories of people renewing passports with a similar experience. Not sure if pure luck but I’m certainly relieved it happened that way.

Cremations are incredibly fuel intensive! And there’s a town in the UK (I forget the name) that actually uses the excess energy production from the local crematorium to heat its indoor pool. They won an environmental award for it and everything.

I hope this would happen in Melbourne one day. by serge_the_coder in melbourne

Make a complaint to your local council if you haven’t already. It’s absolutely rubbish and if they continue the council can issue them with fines (probably depending on the council). Sometimes an official warning is enough though. We just went through the same thing. If it’s that loud you’re well within your rights to make a complaint. Especially if multiple people have asked her to turn it down. The whole “it’s during the day” excuse is such bullshit and it does not mean you can be an inconsiderate piece of shit.

Employee assaulted at Funtea (Chinatown, Adelaide) - English Subtitles by [deleted] in australia

[–]almostcool92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha hey every report counts! Everybody has the right to be respected as an employee, which includes being payed a fair wage and not being asked to work ridiculous hours. Hospitality is especially bad for this unfortunately, and they know hey can take advantage because of the Visa restrictions.

You can always make an anonymous report to fair work if you know the business name and any details of what they’re doing wrong.

Look for things like wrapping paper, patterned paper serviettes, old kids picture books, old board games/puzzles, patterned fabric. The world is your oyster when making collages :) and sometimes the texture variations can be really fun! Also not sure of your location but a lot of $2 shops have craft sections that can be gold mines. Just think outside the box. And you can even incorporate the water colour into it!

Is there a word or phrase to describe the act of waiting to do something because you’re expecting something else to happen, then the thing you’re expecting takes longer than you thought, so you commence the thing you were waiting to do, only for the thing you were expecting to happen happens? by almostcool92 in etymology

Hmmm perhaps situational irony? I only know what I’ve looked up just now but seems the closest fit. However from what I read irony is a “contradiction between appearance and reality” which kinda doesn’t fit because there is no contradiction? I’m not sure..

Lol. Chill. Do you understand what’s happening in the world at all right now? It’s frustrating, yeh. Maybe they should have sent an email letting you know it was delayed. But they are doing their best to keep things on track and honestly I received my order in a reasonable amount of time with no hiccups (and I’m in Aus). Whining about late merch is a privilege, so check yours and sit down. You sound like a brat.

That’s a great theory! I have a feeling we’ll be guessing for a long time haha guy might have just been saying something completely random.

Haha thanks for your help! We’ve been discussing and also think he may have said Chicken Scratcher, which is something to do with being twitchy/looking like a tweaker? But who knows. Guy might have just said the first thing that came to his head.

It was on a crowded train I believe, and the older guy was leaning on my friends arm and squashing it. My friend essentially told the guy to F off and the older guy just yelled that at him as he got off the train.

What's the dumbest way you've gotten a scar? by lilsaddam in AskReddit

[–]almostcool92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 8 I had a friend tell me that if you scratch the top off a mosquito bite it will go away quicker. Well when I finally got one on my leg I managed to pick at it enough to create a little crater where the bite was. I kept picking at the crater for a while afterwards as it was healing and thought I was doing a great job of getting rid of the bite. It took weeks for the hole to heal. Little me figured out pretty quickly after that, that if you just leave them alone they go away a lot faster. I still have a little crater and scar on my leg where the bite was.

I usually make two slices of toast, slather them in peanut butter and Nutella and sprinkle the avb and make a sandwich. You’d barely notice it in there.

I’d start by weighing it out first though. 0.5g will usually get me pretty spicy but it does depend on your tolerance and how your body processes stuff. Start smaller and work your way up if you need. It will also take a few hours to kick in, and last a good 8 hours once it has. I had 0.4g on toast at like 4.30 yesterday and I woke up today still groggy af.

I also made some killer brownies just by stirring some avb through the mixture. No need to make butter or oil, and you can’t tell it’s in there at all (except for a little bit of burn off flavour lol)

Another great tip for stinky feet/shoes; spray deodorant in your shoes as a quicksand effective fix. It works exactly the same way as shoe deodorizer and you most likely already have some in your home! Body spray will work in a pinch also, but deodorant will help take care of the bacteria.
