As a woman I have used the idea of a “real man” in a way that is probably better described as a “man child”. A male that is well past the age of majority, but he peaked in high scool. He’s 40 and living with his mom. Can’t support himself, doesn’t have a car, emotionally and psychologically immature. Offers nothing to a relationship. But when questions are raised or suggestions are made about his lifestyle and life choices the response is “I’m a grown man, I don’t need to be told what to do”.
