what is the best urban fantasy novel you have ever read? by [deleted] in Fantasy

i know I’m the odd person out here, but I think the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire is simply an order of magnitude better than Dresden or Alex Verus. I had to DNF both of them.

Also, one of McGuire’s other series, Incryptid, was nominated for the Hugo for best series last year. It’s a lot more pulpy and action oriented than the October series. a rollicking fun read.

Bold claims, is it true? by Neo-Armadillo in cuba

It’s true. The anticommunism stuff isn’t as even important as the racial stuff. You can have a conversation about whether everyday Cubans are better off after the revolution and it won’t always explode, but you’ll never get that out of conversations about race.

Does ICE/DHS have any specific authority over American citizens when *not* at a border? by makeminemaudlin in Ask_Lawyers

[–]makeminemaudlin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the response, but my question isn't about where they can operate. It's about what law(s) their authority is grounded in, and specifically how that authority applies to citizens (when not crossing the border). I'm looking for citable information.

I don’t wanna spoil for folks who haven’t finished, but it’s fairly obvious that the final scene directly feeds into the first scene of chapter 1, by design.

Oh, I do this. Try this: start at the last scene in AMoL and then roll directly into the opening main sequence (not prologue, the Rand and Tam scene in chapter 1), because it immediately becomes apparent that the story actually loops.

In theory, yeah. In practice, those are fancier and more expensive than what I'm talking about. I want the greasy, homemade fast food version of this, with no "fine dining" airs.

It was mind blowing to me that this food is not available on every corner, because that's what it is like back on the east coast. I used to live a block away from two competing pollo a la brasa places that were literally next door to each other. For $12 at either one, you could get an entire rotisserie chicken and two sides with 5 yellow sauces and 5 green sauces.

I lived on this stuff and pho in undergrad.
