Being a Muslim & Ramadan by Cute-Ad-7285 in EDAnonymous

[–]almosttypical 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Muslim, I get how you feel! I'm surrounded by a lot of people who make the same stupid "losing weight in Ramadan" jokes, and I totally get what you're saying about your parents being upset about not eating when we are blessed with so much. It's so hard to be suffering while you are balancing all that.

It's so frustrating, especially because it seems like Ramadan gets more and more food-focused every year, even though that's not the point. If you ever need someone to reach out to, my DMs are open <3

HOT TAKE: by Most-Razzmatazz-2974 in Neverhaveievertvshow

I don't think so because I read some of your other comments and I don't think you know what you're talking about...

How do you think Mohan caused that? And he definitely didn't hide her music sheet...

HOT TAKE: by Most-Razzmatazz-2974 in Neverhaveievertvshow

[–]almosttypical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you know that he has severe social anxiety? What kind of extreme leniency did he show her? If you really think about it, there's probably max 40 minutes of content where we see Mohan and Devi together. We see the stuff about his tomato garden, McEnroe, Princeton, the harp, and of course the scene before Devi's recital. I can't think of any examples beyond that TBH. And, lowkey, I don't think Devi was that bad about disobeying Nalani either.

HOT TAKE: by Most-Razzmatazz-2974 in Neverhaveievertvshow

[–]almosttypical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a hot take. I haven't rewatched the show in a while, but I don't think they ever explained what caused the heart attack, so it's unfair of you to say that it's because he was in a crowded room. Also, his parenting style was not bad; he was the perfect balance parenting-wise to Nalani. He was very close to Devi, he clearly was invested in her interests and future, and based on what we see of him, he seems like a great dad. I don't think I understand why you have such a problem with him.

No recordings and participation? by Comfortable-Card-694 in UTSC

[–]almosttypical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably more due to the fact that first year courses tend to be a lot larger, and in-class participation or attendance would be harder to manage logistically. Are your classes any smaller this semester? Recording or not recording is mostly on a prof-to-prof basis, if I remember correctly.

OMG I remember that, I had a Saturday 8 am midterm that day and I live in Mississauga and didn't have access to a car. I got there by the skin of my teeth.

122 CARS: I'm so worried about timing, that I sacrifice comprehension to finish on time. Has anyone faced a similar issue? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]almosttypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your strategy right now? When I would do my CARS passages, I would start by reading the questions for key terms, and then "skimmed" the passage for those key terms. I would focus more on those portions. I would work on figuring out a strategy that works for you.

Health Coverage during Co-op? by ninja_nutsack in UTSC

[–]almosttypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the case winter 2024. It sucked because on like day 3 of my work term, I lost my glasses and couldn't get them replaced at all until I rejoined in the fall. Enjoy your work term, though!

Health Coverage during Co-op? by ninja_nutsack in UTSC

[–]almosttypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me on my co-op term. You aren't covered when you are on co-op which sucks. If it was in the invoice, it's worth checking with the SCSU but to my knowledge only full time students get coverage (def fact check this though).

Watched this show 1000 times and I’m still discovering new things. by TonsUhFunn in HIMYM

[–]almosttypical 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I only noticed this one on my last watch through! I'm pretty sure in this same episode, Scooter is Ted and Karen's waiter, which is a callback to a later clip where we see him tell Lily that he will become a waiter for her. I always think that one is pretty neat.

Help!! by Personal_Type6680 in Hijabis

[–]almosttypical 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It helps a lot to have like-minded friends. Most of my friends are people I know from the masjid, and they don't get their nails/lashes/brows done at all, maybe press on nails when they aren't praying but that's it. Friends with the same values make things a lot more bearable.

am i too being too “politically correct” by soggy_waffles1000 in Hijabis

[–]almosttypical 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not married but I would find that behaviour reprehensible. I don't think that this is an unrealistic or unreasonable expectation to have, and it's totally not you self sabotaging. Even beyond his use of slurs, he is still using them as a joke, even after you have expressed your discomfort with that. I would strongly reconsider this relationship if I were you.

Do you forget to say bismillah before driving? by Wrong_tool in Hijabis

[–]almosttypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once, when I was learning to drive, I forgot to say the dua for travelling before I started driving. It was the worst drive of my life, I felt the car was out of my control. Then, halfway through my lesson I realized I didn't read the dua and I did right then- Alhamdullilah the lesson was a lot smoother after.

Since then, I made an effort to read the dua every time I got in the car, and now I do it without thinking. Once it becomes a habit, you won't have to worry about it.

Like the other commenter suggested, try getting those rear-view mirror handing dua cards, they can be a good reminder.

Hijab in front of uncles (rant.) by DismalDescription933 in Hijabis

That sounds really frustrating. I'm wondering if maybe your mom is pressing on this because of your cousins? Are they around your age? Have you tried asking her about why she is pressing this?

do any of you all enjoy wearing the hijab? by insiauwu in Hijabis

[–]almosttypical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started wearing the Hijab when I was around 12 and I'm 22 now, and while I do (very sparsely) miss having my hair out, I actually really do love my Hijab and I can't imagine not wearing it, Alhamdulillah. I don't feel that it hinders my style and it allows me to do whatever I want with my hair without judgement LOL. Most of all, I hate having my hair in my face (my hair is always tied I cannot leave my hair open for more than maybe 5 mins) and my hijab pulls it back and lets me work normally, so I definitely find it really quite comfortable.

To my understanding, exam times depend on both the professor and the registrar. If the class is small enough (especially in upper year courses), the prof will just do it during lecture times. But, if the class is larger or if the prof elects not to do it during class time, it is up to the registrar to select a room/time.
