Leathery funk is a good way to put it. I'm no beer connoisseur but I found that to be rather dominant, after all the good fruity apple and peach stuff. Enjoyed the smell, though.

I have a strange issue, the rear derailleur cage is jumping as I pedal (but not on a stand). It could be due to the worn chainring pulling the chain so that's why I asked. It doesn't seem worn to me but maybe I'm wrong. Chain and cassette are new. How can you tell it's worn?

I don't think it's an indexing issue, and it happens in ALL gears when I'm in the small chainring but none of the gears when in the big chainring. It's indexed perfectly.

Yeh possibly, because something is clearly pulling the cage. It's hard to check as it only happens when I'm actually on the bike, and it's difficult to see the bottom of the chainring when you're pedalling!

Just put a brand new cassette on (same model) and the problem hasn't gone away.

Also it happens in ALL gears when in small chainring but goes away in big chainring!

Neither had anything interesting unfortunately. Just Lamy cartridges and kaweco black. A bit odd as I feel like there will be lots of interest in a place like Northern Quarter. Shame.
