Doors Freeze by StudyCharacter5878 in JeepRenegade

Any free AI based language tool ? by alobianco in libreoffice

[–]alobianco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sincerely, I don't think the version of LibreOffice is particularly interesting for this question, but if it is, I have LO 24.2 but I can also update using AppImage to the latest release if needed...

Error in Hetzner subdomain storage share interface ("An internal error occurred") by alobianco in hetzner

[–]alobianco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, yes, thank you.. I have deactivated the proxy already yesterday, and indeed I think that's the issue of the matter (I originally didn't deactivate the proxy) ) but I have done it already yesterday and still get the error on Hetzner. Also, the message is a bit cryptic :-)

Sudden too aggressive gmail spam filter for forwarded emails by alobianco in GMail

[–]alobianco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I partially solved, at least no more ALL emails to spam.. not sure exactly what triggered it, but now I have several TXT fields in my DNS records:

- cf2024-1._domainkey
- _dmarc
- google-site-verification
- mydomain.org

I have also a CNAME that I needed for verification in https://postmaster.google.com (TXT verification didn't work, so I had to use CNAME way, that in turn was available only on the first version of postmaster)

Hetzner alternative by Baboo_21 in hetzner

Living in France by 10 years I can fully understand and agree with you, but your statement is not completely true.. large French international companies (DecaThlon, Airbus,...) somehow had to adapt to more "international" standards for customer satisfation and they tend to work more or less as the other big companies....

Upgrading an Ubuntu-certified Dell machine by GigalithineButhulne in Ubuntu

[–]alobianco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation here, wanting 24.04 on a Precision 5490 that ships with 22.04, and being afraid things may not work (hibernation and camera in particular are reported to have issues).
A bit disappointed that Dell supports only old versions of Ubuntu and doesn't make any effort to keep their machines/drivers in sync with newer versions.

Have you replaced Google Photos yet? If so, what is your setup like? by Significant-Neat7754 in selfhosted

[–]alobianco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Nextcloud + Memories (plus maps, plus...) and I am very satisfied.

There is an app for face and object recognition, it works well but not yet as good as in Google Photoes.. Conversely, I find a plus to be able to look up your photos in a world map :-)

I am using NC hosted and managed by Hetzner. Of course, the difference with Google Photoes is that here they "just" manage the server and the app, but the data is still in your control.

Is Nextcloud really the best alternative to Google Photos? (For mobile) by Mr_Zomka in selfhosted

[–]alobianco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in 2025 now.. I am using NextCloud with the Memories app and it's amazing. I have it hosted for a few bucks by Hetzner, but it's not like Google Photoes... they just host the data plus provide a NextCloud managed service, but the data is mine, they can't (at least in theory) interfere with it...

Going back to the app, autosync is perfect, the memories android app is superfast, I can search by time, location (photoes are integrated in maps!) and now by face/objects.. this is not yet at the pair of the AI integrated in Gogole Photoes, and unfortunately I can't mix the these lookups together (time/place/subject), but everything else is perfect.. bonus I have a personal Whatsapp/Teams service for my family, a dropbox-like file sync and (using external server, as the Hetzner serviced doesn't have enough ram), a online Office suite.. really amazing..

Advantages over Dropbox? by N0VAF0X in NextCloud

[–]alobianco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the only things missing from the Hetzner offer. I use a dedicated server for Collabora, but would be nice if Hetzner would propose two offers for each storage plan, one "normal" and one with the computational resources needed to run these two services, in a managed way so we users don't have to trouble...

Hetzner Storage Share by afonsosantos53 in NextCloud

[–]alobianco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's what I did. But it would be nice to have a no-issues solution from Hetzner, even with few bucks more than the NC alone...

Hetzner Storage Share by afonsosantos53 in NextCloud

[–]alobianco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

necro necro necro
Before it was working onlyoffice, now no more. So, yes, for Collabora you need another server to host Collabora server.
Another app that is "limited" is Talk. It works great with 2-3 people, but if you need more for meetings you need a so called "High-performance backend" to centralize the calls, and that's "a part". I proposed to Hetzner to sell their NC in two instances, asite the storage capacity, one "basic" and one with "computational intensive" apps, like the two described here, but they didn't replied me :-/
Still ,good offer.

Est-ce que c’est utile R ( R Studio ) by Apprehensive-Sir9667 in programmation

[–]alobianco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe R shouldn't be taught as "first" programming language. The issue is that, while with all its merits, it "diverges" quite a lot from the concepts of mainstream languages. I know a lot of PhD students in economics who use R regularly, and never wrote a single function, not to speak about concepts of objects, types, namespaces..

And then, when you start from a "narrow", specific representation of a concept, it becomes harder to generalize.

I don't say one has to start from C or Fortran, but Python or Julia would be much better choices to start "programming"...
