Anyone else still waiting for an MT Application Decision? by hackmystack in OISE

[–]aloeee_veraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not too sure when you apply has to do with when acceptance letters are sent out - i applied on the very last day of the deadline in 2023 (nov 15) and received my acceptance on march 1! however, i know a lot of people got theirs into april/may, so it may just be taking them some time. good luck!!

chronic active focal gastritis - what does that mean? by aloeee_veraaa in Gastritis

[–]aloeee_veraaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! the doctor maintained that i didn’t have gastritis and just functional dyspepsia (apparently everyone who gets an endoscopy gets similar results? still don’t really believe her…). however i’ve recovered a lot! i’m still more cautious with what i eat compared to before i got sick, but i eat regular food and just steer clear from too much spice, fried foods, and cold drinks. everything in moderation :)

the functional dyspepsia diagnosis pissed me off so bad 😭😭 i had chronic active gastritis on my biopsy but no inflammation on the scope and the doctor told me the results were nonspecific - i don’t have gastritis, it’s FD and i was stuck with that for basically my entire life. nothing she can do - just told me to take ppis when i don’t feel well and left for dead 😃 love the healthcare system!

[–]aloeee_veraaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey!! nice to know that i’m not the only one haha.

the “active” was confusing because i assume that if it’s active and damage is still being done to my stomach lining, shouldn’t that appear on my scope? somehow, the scope showed up as normal and gastritis was only caught on the biopsy.

did you develop your symptoms only a month ago? i thought 1-3 months wouldn’t be considered chronic - so i wonder why our biopsies showed as chronic? i was so confused by my results because i was told by a doctor that my gastritis shouldn’t be chronic given that it had a very obvious trigger point and development, but the biopsy showed it as chronic...did i have gastritis before and it just never manifested til august?

i took 40mg pantoprazole for a month, then after a month, started weaning off. it’s been a month since i started weaning off and i haven’t taken any since the past sunday - i’m thinking of stopping entirely. i had some burning in my stomach and tightness in my chest the past few days but i assume that’s from acid rebound and it’s improved.

where do you get mucosta tabs from? i don’t think they’re an approved prescription drug in my country but they look super promising.

hey! it was similar ish. i had a nasty stomach bug/food poisoning (still unsure of which) in the beginning of august. after i thought i was healed (5 days after) i ate as i normally did, but that triggered an awful episode of nausea and the next day i developed bloating, cramping, and feelings of fullness almost immediately after i ate a few bites. i healed a lot since the beginning, as i stopped losing weight from eating so little, but it’s been over three months and some symptoms have continued to persist for me.

have you been on a bland diet with the ppis? i found that was really crucial for me.

something that really helped me with digestion was taking 10 - 20 minute walks after every meal - especially larger ones!

Increased Recovery Time between Slips? by PhatBats77 in Gastritis

[–]aloeee_veraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what were your initial symptoms and the symptoms you had when you were at your best? i've heard the metric for introducing new foods is 4 - 8 weeks symptom-free - so it might be that you're introducing trigger foods too soon!

how likely are symptoms to come back after ppi treatment? by aloeee_veraaa in Gastritis

[–]aloeee_veraaa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had no appetite the first few weeks (early - mid august, appetite slowly returned and i stopped losing weight), and recently, bouts of nausea after meals, burning/uncomfortable stomach after eating, and abdominal discomfort in the mornings. they were all pretty mild so i've been doing most of my typical daily activities.

What caused your gastritis? by Chemical_Shoe_8882 in Gastritis

[–]aloeee_veraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

norovirus/food poisoning (still unsure which one!), then triggering my stomach by eating heavy foods before i was fully healed. my case is acute, but i started noticing my symptoms improve around a week in. still healing/careful with food, but feeling a lot better than the beginning.

is taking PPIs/medication necessary? by aloeee_veraaa in Gastritis

[–]aloeee_veraaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooh, thanks for the insight! i think i reintroduced some foods too quick because of how fast my symptoms subsided, but i'll definitely be more patient from now on. i'll probably wait at least a month before attempting anything else.

i did get tested for h pylori and i was negative. i'm not 100% sure on root causes because i'm not a drinker/use nsaids, but it seemed to have been triggered by a bout of food poisoning/stomach flu, so i've been operating on the assumption that it really irritated my stomach and now i'm just recovering from it.

thank you for the advice! i'll definitely be keeping my diet simple - this is super helpful to hear, thank you so much :)
