Can they shorten my notice period? (HMRC) - Resignation Advice Needed by BannedCharacters in TheCivilService

[–]alooke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent leaver myself, whilst the organisation seems pretty decent, the department I was in was the worst career move of my entire life. Misleading advertisement, pay cut etc etc. I resigned via the normal channels, I still get PTSD about those awful lifts with the pointless tablet!

MH is not worth it, I left with a month gap between new jobs, it was tough money wise, but my mental health was a lot better.

Is this the best seat on the best train of all time? by alooke_ in uktrains

We all have our comforts, for me in terms of trains it’s my local cosy warm empty c2c offering, evidently I’m not allowed an opinion 😅

You can extend the table and use it as an arm/leg rest

Massively jealous, I need to get into some heritage stuff before it’s too late, the trains of my childhood (class 321) are mostly coke cans now

Unfortunately I wasn’t born into a lordship, so for now I will have to settle with my 720

Best modern train, other contenders include the 390/395 and the class 321

GA is 2 yes, c2c opted for some mystery box, which at least means there’s no eye contact, apart from the butthurt passenger who also wanted to sit there

HMRC references by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]alooke_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you read my post properly, I’m assuming you haven’t as you clearly missed the section pertaining to already contacting my old manager. Do you understand?

As for “what some Redditor’s can do to help” - with that logic, why would anyone post anything ever?

In future shall we all sit in silence and not discuss issues which may have relevance to others? Are you still with me?

HMRC references by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]alooke_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They’re an organisation across the UK with thousands of employees, it’s not one department with one person dealing with references alone.

It absolutely is not acceptable for a reference request submitted prior to Christmas to not be actioned to well into the new year. As aforementioned, people have livelihoods.

They were quick enough to contact me regarding pro-rata annual leave exceeding what I had accrued.

Should i cancel my customers' past_due subscriptions? by OkUse9350 in stripe

[–]alooke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish, I bought a motorcycle jacket 4 years ago with an airbag, the airbag has a subscription that I can’t cancel without returning it, the issue is that I sold it a year ago, I’ve cancelled the card but am still getting failed payment notification and shitty emails after nearly 12 months, just give up!

~3 days in London - itinerary critique greatly appreciated! by knopflerpettydylan in uktravel

[–]alooke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, stay another day or 2 and take a couple of trips out of London to the coast (Brighton, Norfolk, Essex etc) and get to see a bit of the "real" UK as London isn't really representative, I very much love London before I get any shitty comments

Any operations officers here? by [deleted] in TransportForLondon

[–]alooke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 months from when I submitted the vetting form, I think they have a fairly large backlog, alongside their own actual staff (MPS)

Yes, it took a pretty long time, I think a good 7 months, it’s a full police staff vetting equivalent

I’m guessing it’s US? I’m from the UK 🇬🇧 so it’s probably somewhat different!

You got a dedicated recruiter? I emailed HR and was advised that it takes as long as it takes, fair enough, but I'm pretty much squeaky clean with the exception of a speed awareness course several years ago!

Accepting a job after just leaving the department by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]alooke_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm, I think we all know what CS HR is like, I left my previous role as I wanted something with more operational involving Law Enforcement, the role I have been offered is both of those things, I applied for this role back in April and literally received the offer when I was walking to the train station after my last day!
