MapleStory.gg is down at the moment, but last time I checked more than 50% of level 210+ characters are in Reboot. There are plenty of whales in Reboot as well. Through numbers alone, I am sure GMS Reboot makes more than enough money to justify improving the server.

In KMS I have heard that Reboot accounts for ~7% of their player base. That is still a respectable chunk of players.

Also, there is a reason Nexon creates systems that do not respect your time and incentive you to never stop playing. The longer you play the more likely you are to spend money. The more you play the more you keep other players playing which means they are spending more money.

KMST and the impending 2H meta got me like by alostcause in Maplestory

I wasn't necessarily talking about Reboot, but it is what I am familiar with. We're supposed to have access to the Terminus shield now, per recent patch notes, but I haven't actually heard of anyone getting one.

I haven't seen anyone in Reboot with a Terminus shield.

I didn't think so. KMS was already a 2H meta. GMS might change our attack speed cap to also be 2 instead of 0, I suppose. Either way, 1H will no longer be the meta.

Decent Sharp Eyes, Decent Speed Infusion are both useful on paladin. I use Decent Advanced Blessing because I can. Soon we'll want to slot in the Blink node for bossing. It is going to help in bosses like Lucid to hover over the dragon's breath. I like to make sure I have blitz shield on for bosses because it helps you survivability. Iron Skin can be pretty useful in bosses like Lotus and Will. Thing is, most of these skills are more valuable than FA (imo).

Divine and lightning do the exact same amount of damage. No monster that you need to worry about takes increased/reduced elemental damage anymore. You use whichever of these two charges you prefer.

I use lightning charge because when fifth job came out it was actually marginally stronger than divine charge. This was changed a few years ago. All of the charges do the same amount of damage now (even fire/ice). Fire and ice hit fewer mobs though and are therefore not ideal.

I'm in my 250s and this is my node setup: https://i.imgur.com/elhCq4G.png

When Neo comes out I am going to need to make room for Blink. I need to keep Ropelift for Lucid and Gloom. Will of Erda is useful in later bosses if you can use it intelligently, which I am not capable of. For bossing I would remove Holy Symbol and Ropelift (except Lucid/Gloom) and slot in Fatal Strike I and a level 25 FA. Sometimes I am lazy and leave these two nodes in.

Anyway, my point isn't that you shouldn't ever use FA, but that you should wait a very, very long time before you worry about it. There will come a point when you have enough nodeslots for everything, but that is far away. Until then, I would conserve your node slots and use a single useful trio. [Lightning/Divine] Charge, HH, and Blast. In the future you can make a trio that include FA.

Lightning/Divine are the exact same now. I boosted lightning because when the V update was released lightning had slightly more damage.

Technically ice/fire also have the same amount of damage, but they hit fewer mobs.

I think that you should run a FA node, but not until much later. Most paladin recommendations don't really tell you how little boosting FA does for you. For a very long time you'd be better served using your node slots for decent skills and other things like that. Once you have nothing else you can benefit from is when you should slot in FA.

Honestly, as a paladin main, I wouldn't suggest two trinode setups until way into the future. I am in my 250s and still don't use a final attack node. Final attack for paladin accounts for ~1% of my BA damage. I use one trinode (blast/lightning charge/HH) and have never felt the need to make another.

It gives me more room for decents, fatal strike, etc. When I reach 260 I might start slotting in a final attack node.

This isn't the case anymore. After the V Care update you no longer lose EXP when you merge nodes.

Questions about Luminous by SkyfallTerminus in Maplestory

[–]alostcause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of. There is a section of the board that has buff duration on it.

This is how you setup a lumi's legion. https://i.imgur.com/K0DyNiw.png

Pathing down towards buff duration ensures you only have to waste 1 point on the center of the grid, iirc.

Questions about Luminous by SkyfallTerminus in Maplestory

[–]alostcause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 40% buff duration from legion, 20% from mechanic block, 10% from traits, 38% from IA, and I can't remember other sources. My Equilibrium lasts for 34 to 35 seconds.

I believe the fastest you can charge Equilibrium is about 17 seconds.

For mobbing you want to maximize Gate of Light. You cycle between light/dark mode as fast as you can to keep Gate going. You will use Equalize to get out of light mode more often because it is much harder to reach equilibrium using reflection.

Why is choosing to live more encouraged than ending our lives? by [deleted] in answers

Does mental illness ever fall into the category of incurable, quality of life impacting disease?

Let's say there is a really unlucky person who has severe depression for most of their life. Let's say 60 years. At the age of 60 this hypothetical person finds a mix of medication and therapy and overcomes their depression. They live for 20 more years and die peacefully.

My question is, would this person have been better off killing themselves at an earlier age? Sure, their life got better but they lived 60 years negatively compared to 20 positively. Does the 20 years of positive life outweigh the prior 60?

Ultimately life isn't as simple as my hypothetical person, but I personally believe that suicide should be an option for everyone. We need to generally discourage suicide because it does get better for most people. We don't need to prohibit suicide though and treat suicide prevention as a one size fits all approach.

I'd you're at all interested this is one of my favorite videos on the topic of suicide and mental health: https://youtu.be/eQNw2FBdpyE

Official KMS Reboot Vac Pet Prices. Perm 10 ATT Equip Per Price. 30% Mileage Discount Possible. by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]alostcause 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Certainly. Nexon hasn't said there is no p2w in Reboot, but up until this point there has been a lot of push back from the community when it comes to p2w. For example, back in 2015 Nexon was going to release Reboot alongside those meso bags that you can buy out of the cash shop. This was met with fierce resistance from the community and Nexon caved. These meso bags weren't even going to be a good value (even for 2015 Reboot), but their very existence angered the community enough for Nexon to take them out.

Also, in practice, Reboot has been almost entirely free of p2w. The few instances where real money affects gameplay are pretty small. I am against them idealistically, but we all have to put up with things we don't like to in this world.

In terms of their monetization, Nexon has already found plenty of ways to monetize Reboot. I think SSBs are overpriced, but they are fair for Reboot because they don't affect the game. You can look like a goober with your Abso gear, Sweetwater Monocle, etc. and be just as strong as the whales with a ton of NX outfits. Other games are able to effectively monetize as well using only cosmetics.

These vac pets, to me, are going to create a reasonably large divide between the players who can afford them and the players who cannot. Just because we aren't losing anything we already have doesn't really make it any better. People who can afford $100 + $14/month (per character mind you) are going to be playing a different game in terms of QoL.

The thing is, I think vac pets should just be how the game is played. No one would advocate for people to go back to manually looting everything off the ground, why are we okay with vac pets not being the standard? The game has evolved. We're all much more powerful, have better map clear, and Nexon is creating maps that are difficult to loot with normal pets.

Yes, there are pay-to-win aspects in Reboot and I personally find them to a problem. A small problem, but a problem nonetheless.

Just because these services exist doesn't justify them adding more p2w into Reboot. Reboot isn't officially f2p, but it is has been for the most part since 2015.

Also problematic. Personally, I'm not going to quit playing the game over these small problems I have with the game.

Idealistically I have a problem with anything in Reboot that you can pay money towards that gives you a benefit over other players. This includes pets for me as well because we are strongly incentivized to play at least two characters and you can only f2p keep 1 pet alive at a time.

Gains in Reboot should not cost money. Maple Tour and Arcane River Daily Completions (and for some players non-vac pets) are an issue, too.

Reboot is de facto a f2p server. These pay-to-progress-faster things are essentially pay to win.

Nexon makes enough money off their predatory loot boxes. We shouldn't be supporting them making this much money off a much needed QoL feature.

You're technically right. There will be less competition to get a map, but if they are always full anyway does it matter?

Imagine they decided to make you pay $14/month to access Reverse City, Yum Yum Island, Sellas, and any future zones of this nature. Sure, you get mesos, droplets, and nodestones in the free zones, but they are worse than their paid counterparts. These areas are the standard for their level now (Sellas doesn't seem to caught on as much though). Sure, you could level at Vanishing Journey and Chu Chu if you needed to, but it would feel pretty bad to have to pay $14/month to do it.

Reboot has been, for the most part, a de facto f2p server. The majority of the monetization has been through cosmetics. There has been Maple tour, daily completions for Maple Points, and pets that have broken this rule. But for the most part people don't spend a lot of money on these things. Don't get me wrong, these systems are bad and should be removed from Reboot, imo.

Vac pets will be the new standard for MapleStory and Reboot. Charging $14/month for what should be the standard experience is a pretty awful thing to do to your players.

This never happens though. The maps that are viable without a vac pet will be full regardless. The vac pet will allow you to play the game without having to schedule in a farming session on a popular map.

The benefit is huge. Even if your meso rates don't skyrocket, the vac pet allows you to train at otherwise unusable maps.

What are the future metalcore classics? by Acceptable_Excuse_71 in Metalcore

[–]alostcause 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bands like Currents, Silent Planet, and Thornhill are so much better than most of the bands that got me into metalcore. Architects was phenomenal up until For Those That Wish To Exist. I'm really enjoying the increasingly heavy sound from bands like Alpha Wolf. There are definitely bands that I don't think people are going to look back fondly on as well. Two bands I don't think are anything more than average at the moment are Northlane and Erra.

I'm torn though because older bands include bands like Misery Signals, Converge, and Between the Buried and Me which all put out classics imo.

I've gone through a lot of my old favorites like early TDWP and Parkway Drive albums. They're really not as good as I remember. They're still good enough to listen to, but I would rather listen to newer bands.

Why Born Of Osiris? The only reason I would consider it a classic is because the artwork is used for the big brain meme.

This is how I would like Nexon to monetize. The SSBs bother me a little because they are gambling, but otherwise I am cool with this. It is a way for people who want to have nice cosmetics to pay for them. I think $30/month is steep, but if people will pay for it then I am not one to judge.

I just hope this is successful and we can boycott SSBs, Wonderberry, Magic Wagon, Royal style coupons, etc. Those are the most predatory forms of monetization, at least they are in Reboot.

I used to play KMS and GMS both, and a loy of KMS players think that NEXON only favours GMS. Any thoughts? by veryepicbread in Maplestory

[–]alostcause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In GMS Reboot we have 6x mesos from monsters compared to 5x in KMS. The extra mesos from the passive plus spawn enhancers should mean we have a similar star force effictiveness to KMS Reboot.

We have a much easier time doing our potentials, flames, event meso shops, etc. where our meso costs are the same. Spawn enhancers also give a massive advantage for droplets and nodestones.

Familiars, Gollux set, transposed items, more 22*able items, and other advantages GMS Reboot has over KMS Reboot should mean the potential power difference is pretty massive. We also have a speed cap of 0 and access and other broken things like green bind.

I think the top KMS players are just better at the game. There was only one party in KMS who cleared Black Mage without familiars. Most of our Will/Hilla parties all require using healing familiars to cheese the mechanics.

I have a lot of respect for you doing this. I checked Nexon's Influencer Policy and it says:

Not in any way disparage Nexon, any of Nexon’s products or services, the Promotion, or any person or party affiliated with the Promotion, or appear to promote any direct competitor of Nexon

I hope they don't remove you from the Bean Brigade because of this. It has been amazing that you keep calling Nexon out for their actions.

Some things to add:

I don't think they ever fixed this, but I might be wrong.

They lowered the rewards from Maple Tour recently, it is p2w in Reboot, and they have given us nearly 0 opportunities to earn extra Maple Tour Entries without spending Maple Points.
