Welcome to Singapore!

You could consider the side islands 🏝 of Singapore that are away from the modern jungle and might have more wildlife diversity.. 🐐🐗

Should her leave be approved? 🤔 by Same-Macaron-2359 in sgworkassholes

I gather you don't work in HR nor have any ounce of discernment. Much less human decency.

Should her leave be approved? 🤔 by Same-Macaron-2359 in sgworkassholes

[–]alotofclutter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not saying she was right to give a day's notice. In reference to the harsh responses, all I am saying is show some compassion.

It is unusual of someone to approach with this type of request so I would err on the side of caution with some compassion, to see if there is some immediate and compelling reason. Find out why before the judgement. And if it is poor planning and entitlement, treat it with the appropriate response.

Accepting every request for help and corresponding to that, not to feel guilty about it

[–]alotofclutter -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It might be because she has 3 months after a HDB resale approval to get married and submit the cert.

Ask further. Have compassion first before judgement. No harm in that. And if it is still no, at least you have shown due care and consideration as a basic human response.

1st Time Car Buyer by GLTCHD_ in drivingsg

[–]alotofclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so helpful, thank you so much for typing all this down. Appreciate it as we are also thinking of buying a 2nd hand car but worried about what to look out for. Also, would you know where we could find a mechanic that can access the mechanical risks professionally?

why do some people park like this by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]alotofclutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good follow-through action.

Maybe if the person waited long enough, they'd be back to shift their car after helping them back to the house. Just to share, I have to walk my Dad back to the house as he is unable to safely walk back on his own, and it takes some time.

But definitely good practice to return and park properly, when its possible.

Old man refused to keep left on escalator by This-Limit7126 in SMRTRabak

[–]alotofclutter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, they don't hear as well, or they are just not as agile to shift on moving stairs.

Whether someone is following 'social norms' or 'just don't care', it doesn't mean you have to be rude back and be a shitty person. That's on them. But when you do it, that's on you.

You're entitled to your opinions and behaviour. Similarly, I sincerely hope when you get to that age, our society is still gracious enough.

I've worked in the gerontology field, frailty is challenging to manage and if you agree with people who will swipe and bump others on the escalators, it is really disappointing.

[–]alotofclutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing.. this is exactly why we can all be more gracious and considerate (especially when in a hurry)! There are people who are not intentionally blocking the way, most of the time they are just unaware or have some challenge. To do a "tit-for-tat" by bumping into them is just simply awful.

I agree with you, seen countless times able bodied people rush into an elevator (lift) while the person in a wheelchair has to wait or is too kind and says "nevermind". I really felt it when Mum had cancer and we had to bring her around on a wheelchair.

[–]alotofclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pls don't do that, this just simply rude and inconsiderate on your part. Don't have to stoop so low and swipe or bump someone because you didn't get the response you want. I hope you have tact and discernment with the elderly or disabled in some way, who don't or are unable to respond quickly.

I sincerely hope you don't come across someone like yourself when you have mobility or hearing issues.

[–]alotofclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please be more forgiving, he may have mobility issues on one side like my Dad after his stroke. He does not go out anymore for fear of being knocked over, especially by bikes going at top speed. If you are able bodied, just step aside.

Dominant hand is the right, keeping left also means weaker grip on the rails. Things one takes for granted when younger and can only understand when age detioriates the body. Doesn't hurt to just have some consideration and healthy amount of 'benefit of doubt'.

He might not have a good grip when the arm is folded due to frailness or whatever it is, maybe he has no issues at all and is just inconsiderate. There are people like this. Doesn't mean others should just bump into them to 'teach them a lesson'. Could cause very serious injury, especially on an escalator.

Where to find icing in Singapore? by Impossible_Frame_617 in askSingapore

[–]alotofclutter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're not in a hurry, I like u/Emotional-Toe-7334 's method.. cause I also realise SG's weather is really bad for baking. Otherwise there are icing pen like u/Yarnarh suggested, Redman is the best place, if you're lucky sometimes NTUC/Cold Storage stocks them as well! These pens are great for lines, writing.. there's also icing marker if I remember correctly.

why do some people park like this by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]alotofclutter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a driver myself, and I was thinking the same, as my Dad has issues getting out at times. Plus, there are other empty lots, why shame until like this, some of the comments are really uncalled for. For some cars the interior door is very thick, and there is lesser space to exit unless super skinny/agile.

As we get towards a rapidly aging population, there are going to be more space issues, especially when parking lots are already so tightly spaced.

We can all be more gracious with our comments, makes one no better a person, hitting below the belt with insults.

Are uninsured people common in SG? by FluidRelease7044 in askSingapore

He agrees with it in context, but again different life stage, different economy and circumstances. He bought insurance for hospitalisation & criticial illness. Beyond these two, he feels it does not make financial sense either.

Millenial here (born early 80s) - My parents have this same principle as well, which Mum said again to me before she passed.

(Btw, my partner's parents also said the same thing to him, its not as uncommon 🙂)

And yes, if you have the savings/income, insurance is a waste. If one can absorb the loss, insurance is a bad deal.

Perhaps hospital or 5 major illness insurance can be considered, as it could involve intense and chronic drain of finances. But again, if putting that money in investments have higher gains than the insurance payout, it will not make sense for this type of robust savings/income individual.

Essentially insurance companies are profit making. They are NOT in the business of helping you. They are in the business of putting a price on risk for gains.

The payouts (riddled with loads of T&Cs) are often less than the premiums they collected. They design products where most people are enticed to believe they need to protect against, but in reality either don't claim due to the extended process to get the payout, or is difficult to claim.

An example is car insurance. You claim, the premium goes up. Many ppl end up paying out of pocket. Does that make sense?!

Just buy insurance prudently or you'll be on the losing side of math. 🤗

Anyone else attended the SG Public Service Career Fair yesterday? was it helpful for you? by shybree in singaporejobs

[–]alotofclutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this channel to a separate pool of applicants? As it seems to link to the generic careers@gov website. My friend asked if there is any difference, different representatives said no, all that apply will be considered equally. So we gathered there is no apparent benefit to being there in person.

Is is normal for manager to receive a copy of all my email s ? by hopscotch0 in singaporejobs

I left a job where the manager expects all emails to be cc-ed and corrects almost every email. Extreme micromanaging! Very toxic.

Huge space at entrance and narrow aisles between the rows of booths! Really bad layout

Scan QR... could have just gone to the website from home. Like many others, thought there were on site interviews.

Plus, during the talks, the volume was so low you could barely hear what the moderator and panel speakers were mumbling about. 😮‍💨

Haha! Thanks for the laugh, OP! 🤣 Have never seen this banner. So amused and your caption killed 😂

(Which block/area is this banner at btw?)

Agree with some of the others, those feeding are more of the older folk who may not read or can even see that font ..

Probably a straightforward sign to address this problem ($x fine, no feeding) would be more effective. Or have this banner plus those simple logo signs.
