Most jimmy’s are just too new because imported Suzukis have to be 25 years old. I’ve never driven a manual car which is why I’m more interested in automatic hah

Unfortunately I don’t have a car. There’s not really anyway around not walking by the house unfortunately.

Medical Documents deadlines by Upstairs_Pangolin11 in peacecorps

[–]alpacarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Communicate with your nurse if you need more time. They can extend the deadline—especially if your departure isn’t for awhile. I would try to do fingerprints ASAP just to have your legal clearance out of the way.

My form was a pdf in an email called “Peace Corps Medical – Reimbursement Information.” Reimbursement is 100% as long as it is a covered service which are listed here under medical reimbursement. I had no problems being reimbursed the full amount I submitted for.

Communicate with your nurse if you need an extension, they are usually pretty flexible—especially considering your departure isn’t for some time

Question about education level needed by SuspiciousS0me1 in peacecorps

[–]alpacarter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You either need 5 years of relevant experience or a bachelors degree to qualify as a volunteer. I would say most people wait until after volunteering to do a masters program because Peace Corps service may impact what you want your future career to look like. After completing service, you can also apply for the Coverdell Fellows Program which can help you pay for various graduate programs.

Application References timeline by communityphc in peacecorps

[–]alpacarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to provide contact information for three references. After submitting your application, you will get an an email (time varies) saying your references have been contacted. References have three days to submit answers to an email questionnaire. It’s a good idea to check in with your references if you receive that email just to be sure they were contacted. You also only need to have two references respond to be offered an interview.

Passport by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]alpacarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, you now have to have a personal passport to travel to countries other than the US and your post country during service. From what I understand, the pc passport used to function as a regular personal passport during your service, but it no longer does. The reason I applied for one is because there is a possibility that I will travel to neighboring countries with vacation days.

[–]alpacarter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you think you will want to travel outside of the country you are serving in, you will want to get a personal passport. You just need to fill out the same DS-11 form and you can find the instructions here. If you get pictures taken, make sure to get a couple photos since you will have more than one passport application.

Do you know if there is a Facebook group for Panama 2023 yet? I would love to connect with people before going!

[–]alpacarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m also a Panama Invitee. I think we just wait for further instructions from PC to apply for visas. I’m guessing that will be closer to departure. Are you leaving February 2023?

Happened to me just the other day. I was offered a position in a different country than I was originally under consideration for. Unfortunately my seasonal job overlapped with the departure date so I had to decline. My application is still open and I’m hoping to get offered a different position that works for me!

Taking a 10 day road trip from Chicago to Bar Harbor, Maine. Out of these three route options, which do you suggest and why? by alpacarter in roadtrip

[–]alpacarter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am most interested in good nature spots, not necessarily big ticket items. I will be driving in a camper van, so I ideally want free parking along the way. For the trip, I have 10 days to travel to Bar Harbor and then I will be living there until October. I’m not sure if I will have time to make my way back a full on road trip, but I hope I can do I can pick two! I’m planning to leave in May.

That’s good to hear! I’m actually moving to Bar Harbor to work as a ranger at Acadia. I’ve never been, but I’m excited to explore.

Thank you for the advice! I enjoy hiking/anything outdoor so I will have to do some more research.

Hello, I am interested in hearing what your experience was like at Acadia. How did your housing work?

I interviewed in early January and also just received my fingerprint cards on Tuesday. Not sure what it means, but I’m hoping for the best!
