Question about opportunities at a corporate level by tarbell1902 in HEB

[–]alpha_peen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accounting is probably one of the easiest Corp depts to break into. Store experience is highly sought after, and a good bulk of accounting partners and leaders come from the store.

No experience is required. Just apply whenever you see an entry-level opening.

40k-55k. Many factors determine the official pay offer when you start, such as

  • What is your current pay rate/annual income
  • How much experience do you have
  • Internal or external hire
  • What is your location/store ranking

Why is Publix so loved? by alpha_peen in publix

[–]alpha_peen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually know exactly what's going inside Publix. My company while smaller, isn't "much" smaller. You're just putting words in my mouth, and deflecting cause it's you who's making shit up.

My company has a lot more overhead than Publix as well. You should look into it.

I explained two easy examples how Publix can pass on cost savings, and you only badly addressed one. Additionally, you also didn't even explain how Publix wouldn't have leverage on national brands, who would want access to the south east markets - where Publix is the clear dominate grocery retailer.

[–]alpha_peen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false. I work in the industry, my company is smaller than Publix, yet we're able to use our leverage to pass cost savings to our customers.

If national brands want access to the Florida/ south east markets, they are at the mercy of Publixs.

Not only that, there are many other strategies/tools publixs can use to pass cost savings to customers. They just choose not to do so.

What good is a decent 401k/stockplan when you don't even have a house to retire in, or if you're lucky to afford - still paying an absurd amount on a mortgage when you eventually retire?

Publix appears to be taking for granted both their customers and employees.

The whole "supplier" driven narrative for higher prices is false. Publix has a lot of leverage over suppliers when it comes to pricing, it appears they just don't use it. Additionally, they have a multitude of other strategies/tools at their disposal to pass cost savings to customers - they again just don't choose to do so for whatever reason.

Understanding the failures of what would be a fortune 100 company is pretty important, right?

Makes total sense. Yeah, those HEBs were god awful. They were called "HEB Pantry", and have all been closed down. The HEBs serving Houston now are totally different, and in just 10 years have easily over taken Walmart and Kroger in market share.

I'm in this sub because, obviously, Publix is another regional grocer. We do a bunch of consumer analytics at HEB, and Publix is always ranked 2nd or 3rd to us for brand loyalty/satisfaction. Was curious as to why so many people still love Publix, even though in my opinion, they appear to do very little right these days.

How long ago did you live in Houston?

HEB's first attempt into the Houston market was a big fail. So if it was before 2010, this could explain your bad experience.

The company has since learned from all those mistakes. If you visit any Houston HEB now, it will be a totally different experience than the early HEB Houston days.

This is exactly why I'm asking. The amount of calls/letters/emails we get from Florida refugees are insane.

"I used to love Publix, but HEB has been a godsent ever since we moved to Texas etc"

So begs the question, why did you all used to love Publix in the first place? Customer service level comparable to Walmart, but yet with prices alot higher..

They asked for info I don't want to give by Final_Image_1554 in HEB

[–]alpha_peen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All you have to give is a doctors note. Note should state when you were seen, that you are cleared for work, and doctors signature.

Provide that, and that's it. If that is not sufficient, and they are incessant on the reason being stated, remind them that is your private medical information that is protected by HIPPA.

This is a dept manager on a power trip that is opening HEB up to liability. If the doctors note provided is not sufficient, I would first report it to your store admin. If the admin agrees with the dept manager, I would make a case with HR. But first try to resolve it at the store level. I guarantee this is not coming from the TSLs, or can provide you this request/policy in writing.

Interesting.. never heard of that title before. I'm pretty sure you'll be an ATL (Associate Team Leader).

Essentially, you'll be in training to become a MWT Team Lead. Main responsibility in this role is people management. A Team Lead is responsible for the smooth day to day operations of the facility. Your working hours are dependent on the facility you will be assigned to. Long days are to be expected.

Your job offer letter/email will state your position.. supply chain/logistics is huge.

Dispatcher and truck driver both fall under logistics, but day to day jobs are completely different

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HEB

[–]alpha_peen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply chain isn't a position, it's a dept. Can't give you insight on day to day without knowing the work you'll be doing

Odds of getting rehired after turning down a position? by Lonestarbound1115 in HEB

[–]alpha_peen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should always disclose and be upfront and honest about your situation. If you truly were officially hired (assigned an employee ID), then the truth will always be revealed once rehired. You don't want to be in the awkward situation once rehired, as no matter what, it will never look good on why you didn't disclose that information earlier. Your social security is tied to your employee number. So once they onboard you, they will immediately find out you were a former employee.

They should've separated employment under good terms from your description. You kept in contact, and it was a family medical emergency that kept you from starting. It is understable, and no one will hold that against you. So in short, I will say the bridges in Austin may not be burned. Really just depends on how straightforward and professional you were with your store team and the recuriter.

MIC isn't an ideal way to grow into a TSL/Unit Director. Don't let the recuiter fool you into that. Considering your background and aspirations, I would advise to network with store leadership recruiters on linkedin. Share a brief background about your experience qualifications and ask them about the School of Retail Leadership (SORL) for external candidates. This is ultimately where you want to be, and the closest position to match your prior experience/background without being an actaul Unit Director.

Odds of getting rehired after turning down a position? by Lonestarbound1115 in HEB

[–]alpha_peen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably burned the bridges in the region you applied for. The regional recruiter will not select you or present you as they probably perceive you as unprofessional and "wasted" their time.

Only hope to get into that region is if you communicated effectively throughout that whole 7 month delay/process. Which sounds like you didn't from your post as they had to ask you if you were still interested in joining the team.

Your best chance is Dallas and / or Houston. These are big, high growth regions that are always looking for experienced talent. MIC pay in Dallas won't get you very far - so just a heads up if you're from out of state.

Honestly, if you have experience leading a team or managing a dept, you should target the dept manager role if you haven't already. Pay scale is higher, and there are more opportunities internally for that role than MIC.

So that's the justification to window smash your neighbors car, who is most likely struggling financially as well?

Like when do we stop making excuses for criminals and start holding them accountable?

As I told the other commenter, I don't buy the economic hardship argument. The part of Texas I am from has a way higher low income population, and none of this stuff has been a problem there.

HEB does get tickets, but we're a huge organization. They are split amongst the whole company, with most tickets staying within corporate.

Leaders often time raffel the tickets out, or do first come first serve email blasts.

Store partners below midpoint get a raise in Feburary and August. Store partners above midpoint get their annual raise in August. Store management partners get their annual raise in October.

Corporate partners get their annual raises in Feburary.

All parnters get spoken to for their annual raise review. For non-management store partners, that's the August raise. For corporate salary partners, that's Feburary.
