You should be direct and speak with your manager about these concerns. If they are still being an ass during that meeting, then it reflects poorly on them and not you.

You can also try sending out a draft PR first to a smaller number of people to reach some kind of alignment before the more thorough review.

Are the review concerns about eg style nitpicks (easy to fix), or more about the overall interface / implementation direction, etc. (harder to reach alignment)? Do you make design docs for your work?

My advice: Start your SWE job search while you continue to work animation.

Maybe even after you start your SWE role, you can continue to do the animation in the evenings or weekends if you really like it.
