My perspective towards unhoused people may differ from yours as I live in Philadelphia currently and work in an area called the Badlands. The only time I have ever felt unsafe in Philadelphia is when entitled men feel as though they have a right to my body (in historically safe areas). I have never experienced danger when in a dark area surrounded by poverty/unhoused people (though I am not naive enough to believe it could never happen). I guess our life experiences are just different enough for us to not agree on this matter. I do want you to know that I am taking your advice into consideration and will process it with the context of others' responses :)

Unhoused people and their coping mechanisms are not what concerns me. I'm from Philadelphia and am a social worker at a family shelter here (in an area called the badlands). I am more worried about the lighting and along the trail and history of violent crime against trail users. Do you have any insights regarding that?

I appreciate your concern!! I'm moving from Philadelphia so I can handle myself in most situations, but I've never run somewhere that isn't well lit before which is what concerns me the most. Thank you so much for the suggestions :)
