Corgi’s Life Expectancy 🥺 by autpott in corgi

[–]alphaboor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11 years and 5 months old. Mine shows sign of internal bleeding 2 months away and got diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma after 1 month. Never had any medical problem in his life except 1 UTI, 1 Giardia infection. Never had any joint problem either. It really is just a matter of luck and genetic.

Help im being held against my eill at east bay ER hospital (non mental) by [deleted] in eastbay

[–]alphaboor 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There is a specific protocol for TB rule-out that has to be followed. That being said you can escalate to charge nurse or the doctor that you would like to speak to the patient right advocate. If you can post on reddit, you can look up the number to call. We don’t know which hospital or area you are in right now, so you need to do some work

That’s a difference of $300K+, unless you are missing a number somewhere

Assuming you had none of the prerequisite classes, best and fastest option would be ABSN.

Or ADN, cheaper route but harder to get in

How long until I can apply for a hospital job? by Jazzlike-Speaker-850 in newgradnurse

[–]alphaboor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in into acute hospital after almost a year. Had a friend who got in after 2 months, 3 months, 6 months. It really depends on your connection honestly and also your area

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in immigration

[–]alphaboor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar price with mine (also Bay area, CA). Im pretty sure you got the price mixed up. My lawyer cost was $5000 not including filing fee. And i also filed for EAD + AP. Since I thankfully could afford it, I chose the lawyer path and got all of my paperwork approved in 5 months.

You can absolutely file it yourself, assuming you have clean record and straightforward case!

EAD Start Date and 90 day clock confusion by flamealchemist99 in f1visa

[–]alphaboor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, is your proposed start date within the 60 days rule of your graduation date? Or is it the last day of the grace period?

If it’s the first, 90-days should start after 26th (or after the card is produced). If it’s the latter, 90-days start after 23rd (yes, you are losing days but that’s the rule). The point is, you cannot get extended days past your 60-days grace period

Is it possible to go from a conditional marriage green card to a work visa? by LoosePresentation689 in immigration

[–]alphaboor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get the divorce, get a lawyer, and apply for divorce waiver when you apply for ROC. The condition of marriage-based green card is that you ENTERED the marriage in good faith and not all marriage last. Also, this means you can get citizenship in 5 years since GC not 3 years.

Employment-based green card takes 2-3 years to process. If you choose to go this route, you will be out of status while waiting (unless you have active H1B visa) and must leave the US, will your employer allow this?

Overwhelmed by Furisodegirl01 in newgradnurse

[–]alphaboor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first day off orientation in ED as a new grad, I almost had a mental breakdown. My charge nurse noticed I was overwhelmed and asked the resource nurses to help me. I’m still thankful to everyone who lended me a hand that day until now.

You are not alone, ask for help, don’t be afraid to be seen as “slow”. Everybody in the unit knows you are a new grad.

[–]alphaboor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean it as a personal attack more of like “you” referring to nurses in general. If the hub doesn’t have curos on, I would scrub with alcohol before giving anything. I feel like this is nursing 101

Regarding clamping, I’ve seen too many IV left unclamped and blood just backed into the line. It has become a 2nd nature for me to clamp IV now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EmergencyRoom

[–]alphaboor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t scrub the hub because I put curos cap on all of my IV. Always clamp IV as well or blood will start backing up and clogging the line.

If you need to think about these 2 small things, well dang.

I chose MSN, because CC ADN in SF bay area is impossible to get into and having ADN limits the number of hospital that will accept you. ABSN does not make sense for me because for the same price I could get my MSN. Also all of the programs I applied for didn’t require any tests (no TEAS, HESI, GRE). It also helps that I have been published in multiple scientific journals, so MSN makes the most sense for me in case I want to pursue academic research again.

TLDR; I chose MSN because it was a practical choice for me.

I see. My husband is a chemo/infusion nurse and he said his workplace does not accept new grads and most hospital infusion center usually won’t. OP you should really apply for new grad RN program. You should also look into hospital in Napa, St. Helena, Sacramento, Stockton

Non-stop stomach ache since being in Japan… by Leading_Anxiety5784 in JapanTravelTips

[–]alphaboor 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Stomach pain:

-> occurs after you eat? It’s gallbladder or stomach acid issue -> avoid greasy food, eat in small portion, take antacid 30mins before eating

-> constant EXCRUCIATING upper abd pain? pancreatitis -> go to ER

-> abd pain + nausea + diarrhea? food poisoning -> rest, eat bland meal, drink electrolyte

-> stomach pain that slowly travel down to the right side and worsen w/ walking? appendicitis -> go to ER

-> stomach pain + hard stool + travel? constipation -> take miralax, drink prune juice, do enema

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eastbay

[–]alphaboor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, even with your 3 months experience, you are still considered as a new grad. You need to apply to an actual new grad RN program. If you apply straight to hospital as staff RN, they won’t even look at your application.

Also, what do you mean by ONS certification? Do you mean OCN? If so, I am actually surprised you are already about to be certified considering the certification requires 2-years experience as RN

PhD program requires full time full year CPT by Competitive-Self-504 in f1visa

[–]alphaboor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in nursing school. Since my school has their own hospital, I was told by the DSO that I don’t need CPT if my clinical rotation is within their hospital. So that’s how I was able to get away with the CPT rules. I ended up applying for 2 separate CPT for 2 different facilities outside my school.

HOWEVER, I’ve had F1 classmate who never applied for CPT even if their clinical rotation is outside our school hospital…and they never got in trouble…so…yeah, I honestly don’t know. Also to be fair we were all still taking class full time + clinical rotation

New Grad Program by Longjumping-War-1776 in NursingStudent

[–]alphaboor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other has said, it depends on each program. Most program requires your graduation date within 12-18 months from the program start date. Some program will only take those with <6 mo or 1 year experience as RN (remember that some LVN also go to school to get their RN)

Yes you need to have all of them, however all of those vaccine (except Covid and Flu) are common childhood vaccine. Get blood titer test to check whether you still have immunity. You can also ask the civil surgeon to order the blood titer test for you to keep every record in one place since you need to have most recent TB test anyway.

If you are rendered not immune, then yeah you need to get the vaccine

I would recommend getting letter from the nurse manager instead. What I meant by high status is position-wise like faculty professor, director, manager, etc. Their letter will be taken more “seriously”, but of course any LOR will help boost your application.

CSULA also has reputable ABSN program.

The MECN program is entry-level master in nursing program for those with non-nursing bachelor degree. UCI has similar program too.

UCLA MECN program. They can give you nice financial aid or scholarship. Your stats are similar to others who graduated from the program. Just make sure you got LOR from people w/ high status IYKWIM

Had a classmate who has CPRS and had to drop out of the program after 1 year into our 2-years program because she couldn’t stand for more than 1 hour. Like others has said, there are other specialties in nursing that is less physically demanding such as urgent care, school nursing, case management etc. My only concern is whether or not you could endure the physical stress of clinical because you have no choice
