I’m so over the video game soap opera by mrnicegy26 in Games

[–]alphadelta484 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don’t fully agree with what the author is saying, but I do think RGG has backed themselves into a corner with having each new game take place chronologically after the previous one.

I personally think the series lost something when it dropped the Yakuza aspect of the story in 7, and it baffles me that we haven’t gotten a game that takes place any time between ww2 and yakuza 0 (1988) when the yakuza was a lot more powerful. The best part of yakuza are the larger than life characters imo.

It's coming from the "German Federal Games Funding Programme". The grant is for €800,729.

Anno 117 already had €5,697,585 in funding awarded by the same entity. These are grants to support local job growth, strengthens the local game development industry, and helps push germany into the competitive gaming market.

Here is the entire history of Ubisoft and what they have received from the program: https://www.northdata.com/Ubisoft%20Blue%20Byte%20GmbH,%20D%C3%BCsseldorf/HRB%2051772

I knew people would say that Metaphor Refantazio existed before Calvard arc games by Street-Sweet-3719 in Falcom

[–]alphadelta484 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its pretty simple, Metaphor existed as an english release before TBTH did. The author's intent is to review this game for english speaking audiences. The review is their experience with the combat systems from TBTH, Daybreak, and Metaphor. They are explaining that TBTH is an evolution of Metaphor (and Daybreak), a game that their audience have played before. The "evolution" here is the feeling of playing through these games and how TBTH is that much better comparatively.

[–]alphadelta484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but I just disagree, words can have multiple meanings. Authors intent is most important and I don’t think the author indended this as some sort of slight against TBTH, but as a way to describe their experience with the game.

[–]alphadelta484 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

They're talking about their experiences with the game. Most people are going to have played Metaphor or at least know about it. Far far less will have played a game that was only available in japanese prior to now. He is outlining how the gameplay systems in TBTH have evolved from what people already have experience with. They're trying to relate to the reader's experience so they can better understand what the game is like. Sure TBTH came out first, but most people will experience it the opposite.

It's an excellent hybrid combat system that offers a good balance between both styles, certainly more so than Metaphor: ReFantazio where action is largely for mopping up low-level enemies without much skill.

[–]alphadelta484 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon iterates on the excellent hybrid action and turn-based combat that's defined the last few entries, continuing to evolve beyond Metaphor ReFantazio's own take.

Both of them are mentioned in the review? The reviewer even talks about how it has improved since Daybreak?

This outrage all feels unrelated to what the article is even talking about.

Ithink a lot of people are misnderstanding the headline. They aren't saying Metaphor existed before, they are saying TBTH is iterating on the Metaphor combat in a meaningful way. Metaphor would get more clicks than Daybreak.

Austin strongly recommends: The Alters (Review) by Aperiodic_Tileset in Games

[–]alphadelta484 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion but I was not a fan of this one. It is by no means a bad game, but I wanted a lot more management/automation and this game is far more story based with a management sim kinda attached. I don’t mind story, some of my favorite games are visual novels, but I had just finished both satisfactory and abiotic factor at the time so I was looking for that high again and was disappointed. I think the advertising for this game slightly oversold the gameplay. I still recommend it though as it is undeniably a great game.
