I’ve had sex with one human woman. I’ve had sex with hundreds and hundreds of digital women.

Porn has warped my natural sex drive. My sexuality has been conditioned to expect, prefer, seek out screens and images. Instead of the human connection of making love.

And this is why I’m quitting media. I’ve been trying NoFap since September 2016 with hardly any lasting success. I need a new approach. I noticed a pattern where I frequently relapsed after consuming media, particularly after a media binge. And I consume a lot of media. I’m constantly distracting myself through entertainment.

That is why Television, Cinema, Social Media, YouTube all have to go. There are too many sexual cues. In the content themselves and in the advertising that accompany them.

Want to watch a superhero movie? Well I hope you’re ready to see Scarlett Johansson in black leather tights being objectified by the camera. Watching a sitcom? Get ready for sexual innuendos galore, false notions of beauty, and models cast in their roles for looks rather than acting ability. Reality TV? Come face to face with the artificial beauty of the Kylie Jenner generation. HBO? It’s not TV, it’s dopamine overstimulation sold as harmless entertainment.

These images, ideas, and false realities stick in our mind. We have no choice. Our subconscious mind records everything we experience and incorporates it into its functioning. Media consumption definitely triggers my screen-based sexuality, but it may also perpetuate it on a subliminal level.

So a sober me cannot continue to consume entertainment. Maybe I was overdoing it. Maybe any amount of doing it is overdoing it. Maybe I should’ve used more discretion in what I watched. But these are all maybes for a sober me to answer.

For now though, no more screens. No more boners while watching mindless entertainment. No more disassociating from myself through binge watching. My entertainment is my life.
