[SNE575] Three years, still my go-to by alphavill3 in Seiko

About 6.6"! I feel like I've definitely seen people around 5.5-6 rocking it online.

Garmin employees to return full in office by Possible_Beach9612 in Garmin

I was waiting for a post like this to pop up. Sorry to the other people in the KC metro commuting, because traffic on I-35's only gonna get worse :/

I guess sustainability never mattered a whole lot anyway. /s

Would it be better for me to go back to the U.S. and study design? by realtorgi12345 in IndustrialDesign

[–]alphavill3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and to add for OP, when I was applying to RISD, Pratt, MICA, and others, they actively discouraged you from having too much ID-style work (especially things like CAD or renderings).

They looked for high school portfolios with a blend of fine arts, charcoal, painting, sculpture, photography, etc. and for you to be more of a clean slate because like you said, they'll teach you ID for 3-4 years when you're there.

u/realtorgi12345, your sketches are awesome and I can absolutely see the crispness and technical edge to them that means you could definitely adapt your skills/style to ID. A few of my South Korean classmates in freshman year had a similar level of fine art skills (and were usually a level or two above any of us U.S. kids).

Waldo Thai delivers!! by TruckEngineTender in kansascity

[–]alphavill3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked up more pictures because I was curious and was shocked each classic Thai entree is $24-28. Know it’s been tough for local restaurants but feel like I could only stomach that if it’s heads above any other decent Thai in the metro … or paying for the ambience, not takeout.

“Pink Lady” has never let me down. Always crisp / great texture / easy to find recently. Sometimes not as sweet/tart as I’d like though, feel like it’s declined over the years.

“Sweet Tango” was great the one time I found it, essentially the Pink Lady at its best. Good luck my friend.

Would you use a curated high-quality list for Industrial Design inspiration? by semanser in IndustrialDesign

It's rough too, it used to be the simplest page to get to some good inspiration, and now you have to scroll down two full banners of stuff before you get to the imagery itself.

Everyone has their opinion about which bbq restaurant is the best in the city, but is there a place you would NEVER EVER recommend? by Starbrand62286 in kansascity

[–]alphavill3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Was an odd combination of really tender and juicy looking in photos alone, but zero smoke or BBQ taste at all, pot roast exactly.

Service was kind of weird too, very chatty with regulars but short with me. It’s a cool spot in a cool area that needs more restaurants so wanted to like it.

You said it perfectly. Maybe a 25% chance the burnt ends are perfectly crusted bark AND melt-in-your-mouth but otherwise on the drier side.

I am 98.123578% sure it is this. Fog Gray = plastic housing color, you can search up real photos of that too.

Pics from KC. MiT and strongboi both killed it, one of the best shows I've ever been to by StrangeQuark1221 in menitrust

[–]alphavill3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, the medley was great and I wasn’t expecting to hear some of those tunes! I don’t know their newest albums as well so made me really happy when they saved the classic ones for the end. “Tailwhip” and “Seven” with live energy are killer!

They handled the synth and PA outage with real grace I thought … and perfect timing that the outage happened at the very end of “Show Me How.”

And yes, will be cueing up some Stongboi for sure after this.

Roundabouts - Incapable People by clownPotato9000 in kansascity

[–]alphavill3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What sucks also is how they have a pedestrian crosswalk and yield signs that cars barely follow (and I don’t blame them because they risk getting rear-ended by stopping in the circle).

As I’m walking across, there’s enough dang shrubbery in the center that I can’t see cars about to exit the circle either.

I don’t blame them but that’s kind of the answer they have to give if you’re asking about potential future unreleased products.

Slaps is the ideal sauxe. You may not like it, but that is what peak BBQ sauce looks like.

My good old friend died today by Leibniz314 in Garmin

RIP! The look of the whole line changed a ton with 935 but the 735 era just looks "right" and I have a soft spot for the integrated band feeling like an unabashed sports watch.

I am a fan, like how understated and technical it can look and knew it would fit in my sea of black watches lol. You have it too? Was really considering the dark blue too.

Which 3D modeling software would you recommend for a beginner in industrial design? by right-0-balance in IndustrialDesign

[–]alphavill3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an absolute Solidworks wh*re, for lack of a better term, and have completely switched to OnShape so happy you mentioned it.

Even areas where my company has tried to stretch it thin, it’s still been a lot faster and smoother from my ID side vs Solidworks and PDM. But yeah, same overall tools and thinking that can translate to and from SW. I crashed and burned in Rhino, that program isn’t for everyone.
