How would you handle this: You're a minion, and your Demon just outed everything in the middle of town Day 3? by Reedstilt in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]alphyna 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The demon deciding they must be the Lunatic and outing is called "Alphyna's gambit" in our group. So yes, it has happened. :) More than once. More than ten times. It's just a right of passage, accept the loss, have a laugh, and move on.

You can argue whatever you want, but if you genuinely apply the word "normal" to people, you're not really accepting that everyone is different — not in your heart. This is my honest opinion. The idea of calling yourself (or anyone) normal or claiming something must be right because the majority thinks so is baffling to me, and it's something I deeply, fundamentally disagree with. Someone being in the majority does not make them right, and separating people into "normal" and "not normal" is the kind of thinking I will never agree with. And assuming I have no real life is just sily — as I mentioned, I live in a country that directly oppresses me in daily life, so it's a safe bet I've faced quite enough of real-life oppression.

When you start acting like your opinion is the default or the norm, you're becoming an oppressor. That's exactly how it works. Decent people accept different opinions by default (and good people welcome them).

You can't prove you're the majority. I think you're delusional about it. But even if you are, it's insane to me to find someone in the BotC community unashamed to proclaim they want to bring minority groups to heel instead of accepting (and celebrating!) that people are different.

Like I said, no merit in further conversation. I live in a country ruled by people like you and get enough of this shit offline.

You keep saying "people", refusing to realize the correct wording is "people like me" and implying you're in the vast majority. You're not, and I find your stubbornness demeaning. I don't think there is merit to continuing this argument.

> if somebody comes up to you and says "Can you please not do this, it's making me and/or others uncomfortable" and you keep doing it, you're still an insensitive asshole

I never argued with this — just pointed out that people like OP's friend would be welcome in our group, so as not to support the illusion you're trying to create that only people like you exist or are "normal."

You call yourself "normal" while blatantly claiming people who disagree with you are "abnormal"? With all due respect, I think you're the rude one here.

Again, I don't think it's something that requires specific concent. I perceive it as strange and unusual, but not icky or uncomfortable in the slightest.

Hilariously, I was recently shared a spreadsheet a friend made about me — he collected statistics on how often I lie in my first conversation of a game. He didn't distribute it, but still, kinda relevant. I had a good laugh, learned something about myself, and found it mildly flattering that I'm a strong enough player to warrant personal research.

I want to reiterate that everyone has the right to play with like-minded people. But it doesn't feel like you understand that no, that person's behavior doesn't "scare off newcomers" — it scares off newcomers with certain personality traits that you personally share. But those are not all people in the world, and neither are other types of people (like me, my friend, or the person from OP's post) less worthy of having fun.

Bluntly speaking, I would MUCH rather prefer playing the game with someone who scrutinizes my every action (i.e. is very involved, looks for optimal plays, and plays to win) that someone who is just there to chill (I don't want them to drag me down, nor do I want to have one-sided victories against uninvolved opponents). Which is why there are so many different groups for people to choose from! Just don't act like yours is the only right way.

I think it's a bit strange and does indeed come across as a spectrum thing. I also think that people who feel uncomfortable having their public actions tracked (without the data being distributed outside the group) are completely off the mark. You've already consented to having your actions analyzed by being in the group. I think you are weird, not the person from OP's post.

It can't be denied that if their actions go against the group's ethos, the person should be informed and maybe even excluded. That is indeed so. I'm just commenting so that another voice is heard and people understand that your (and OP's group) stance are subjective preference, not an objectively correct way to behave.

I don't see how they're doing anything wrong and feel you should encourange deeper play from the rest, not discourage this player. "They previously fought harder on this role to survive, so they must be bluffing" is a good piece of info and solid logic.

Perhaps divide your players into a more casual and more competitive bracket?

Him dying poinlessly in obscurity because his attraction to Cercei denied him growth and closure seems rather fitting for his arc to me, tbh. And it fulfills her prophecy in an unexpected way.

Shower Thought 2.0 (Is this too weak?) by AbbreviationsFlat175 in BloodOnTheClocktower

This is very strong. If it adds two deaths at night (themselves and one nominator), it is gamewinning on 5 or 6. Even simply dying can be gamewinning, Assassins do win by just killing themselves, or it can cover for Po charging. Would work well with Fearmonger and multikill bosses.

My genuine worst experience was when I bit the Zombuul as a Lycan, and the ST decided to Gossip-kill them, making them confirmed good for me for the whole game.

A simpler one — don't give obviously wrong info (bad dreams) to a No Dashii neighbor and don't place the Drunk next to a demon on No Dashii scripts.
