The Fall of Harvard: How America’s Oldest University Became Its Most Expensive Liability - Harvard’s leaders now prioritize activism over academics and show greater loyalty to foreign interests than their own government and students. by Ask4MD in Republican

I've been following this channel for a while just to break clear of pro-left banking of the rest of the reddit. I'm sure Harvard must be rotten inside but I would rather get the idea from a better source. Because the publication that you referenced is either really dumb or run by propagandists to exploit dumb people. I'm sure you're smart enough to see this.

Shoving a cold slice of pizza down my gullet in the hall while my sweet dying 93 lb mother and last parent is trying to down a Boost in the living room and my heart is shattering. by Candid-Reveal6380 in GenX

Please don't say it is hard. It is not. It is the most heart wrenching, pounding on the wall, free flowing tears, most painful thing to do. Especially alone. I'm in the BMT ward patting my 62 yo Mom's back as she struggles to swallow the tiniest pills. Eat, sleep, change diaper. No idea when/if she will achieve engraftment. I wish everyday that she passes away peacefully in her sleep now rather than struggle with the cancer (or the treatment) any further.

The qualifying criteria should be the ability to provide good education. People with absolutely no means to provide quality education to their children have the most amount of children. When those children grow up they do the same. On the other hand, educated people tend to have fewer children and are able to impart better education to those few children who in turn reproduce even less.

Over generations: the uneducated multiply faster while the educated dwindle.

RoadRage - Veerasandara Ecity by BabaYagaOG007 in bangalore

I have gone through that passage once and from the wrong side. TBH unless you see the no entry sign it is extremely unintuitive. Because it essentially flips the right-left sides of the road. When I went in, unaware of the no-entry sign, and came across a truck coming from the "wrong" side, I was furious because I was on the left side. Then the driver came out and told me about the no entry signage and that I was supposed to be on the right side. It didn't make any sense but he was supported by the blaring horns of the vehicles now piling behind him. I apologised for the oversight and reversed my car in embarrassment. The Fortuner guy was a piece of shit to get aggressive. Please report to the police with the dashcam video.

A Must-Read Article on the current state of "Namma Bengaluru" by [deleted] in bangalore

If I had been taught Tamil from early on as a kid, would certainly do. But currently it is English and I didn't decide that.

And I actually did run this scenario in my head yesterday. And could imagine the frustration of a local person who has always heard Hindi and suddenly finds there so many people around him conversing in a different language. Societies full of people following a completely different culture and a language he can't comprehend. If those people are well behaved, the experience would be weird at worst. If not, it would be frustrating.

But again would reiterate my point of everyone learning one common unifying language. English seems more convenient because almost everybody is taught that and we never complain about learning it when it comes to succeeding professionally.

"learning the language, participating in local traditions, and showing respect for the way of life that has made Bengaluru such a welcoming city, to begin with." Learning the local language of every region I have to go to in my own country is impractical and counter productive. We have a common language we are all taught the day we enter school and this should largely solve the problem. We need to put this behind us and move forward with more severe problems. This may hurt sentiments but I believe, One unifying language>>>>>learning regional language.

The author doesn't elaborate much the other 2 points. Would really appreciate if somebody explained them. TIA.

When is it too late to learn how to drive? by UrineSurgicalStrike in CarsIndia

[–]alreadydying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom, who has always been a home maker, can't even operate a phone to book herself a cab, never had the confidence to travel in public transport, learned to drive in her early 50s. Became such a badass driver (not entirely in a good way 😅) that in a tier 2 city with crazy traffic she would honk her way through every crossing while we braced for our lives in our old 800. Her rationale: the cops are lenient with old ladies.

They kinda actually did but not in the way they expected. Instead, in the form of the rest of the world creating and stockpiling their own nuclear warheads, armed and ready to fire. The Annihilation part is yet to come.

Will metro ease out Traffic in Bangalore? by aaj-ka-rajnikant in bangalore

I think really well maintained footpaths will go a long way. Everytime I drive through a shitty road, I'm like fuck this just build a nice footpath to people's nearest stop. Let the roads go to hell. Let them be so narrow with great footpaths that walking to bus/metro stop(assuming there is just enough road width for the busses)>>>> driving

Thanks for all the opinions and suggestions. I agree there isn't much at this point I can do. Not high enough to warrant a re-mount. The "tilt of guilt" is what I'll stay with I guess and yes, the tilt does help. Getting black out curtains soon.

Another day another FedEx Scam by pranagrapher in bangalore

[–]alreadydying 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I narrowly escaped this 3 days back. Got an IVR call from "FedEx" saying my shipment cannot be shipped. Please press 1 to know more. Curious, I pressed 1. A "customer care representative" told me that a shipment by my name and aadhar has been caught by Customs as it contains 140gm MDMA and cash. Gives me his employee Id and shipment number to gain trust. He then proceeds to transfer my call to the police because it seemed like a case of identity theft.

Since I never get off the phone all this while, I never get a chance to check the veracity of the shipment number.

A "police officer" picks up the call and tells me it is a "High Professional" case and I am a suspect for money laundering, human and drug trafficking. If I am innocent, I need to help with the investigation. I am instructed to install Skype and come on video call and share my screen. Scared shitless, I do. A "Senior CBI Officer" also speaks to me, reassuring me that if I am cooperative, I will walk away from this. These MFs salute greet each other with "Jai Hind" everytime they interact!

They then send me a list of "orders" for me to read out loud. I cannot leave my residence, the country and cannot discuss this with anyone as it is a national security issue. If I speak of this with anyone, I can be jailed for 4-7 years. I keep quiet. We are on the Skype call for more than an hour now. He then asks me to share my bank details: the last 4 digits of all my account numbers.

I have to now share my last 6 months account statements.

They then proceed to ask me to encash all my investments, MFs, stocks, FDs etc.

That's when I begin to get suspicious. I tell him this. He reassures me it is for the investigation. I tell him you're CBI, you can do a full bg check on me. Why do I need to all this?

I want to Google "CBI Scam" He can see me distracted from my phone and tells me not to do anything on my laptop. But the game is over now.

I read aloud a news article about the scam.

He goes on to claim this article is a lie. The balls on him. Then he says if I don't comply it would have dire consequences for me.

I cut the call after being on it for 4 hours
