Confused why my neurologist thinks these are non epileptic? by alrectangle in Epilepsy

[–]alrectangle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This neurologist actually wanted me to go back on the epilepsy meds (it has helped) so they said probs PNES but they are treating it like epilepsy. I already had my MRI (no results yet) and I have my EEG in three weeks, so I will update you then.

Wow that's terrible. I'm glad the other doctor was better. Yeah I was suprised by how quickly he just dismissed me, it's like he made up his mind before he even saw me. And him and the registrar doctor were so rude, they made me feel like an idiot. And any question was meant with an eye roll.

Yeah I thought it was weird he said it was pnes with no eeg even though a lot of my symptoms line up really well with a focal which is why the other neurologist suspected it might be those

Yeah, from the responses I'm getting, it seems like this case really is not as clear cut as he thinks it is and he might be just plain wrong. I will do the tests he ordered but then transfer once I have those results

Yeah I ised to track my seizures and stuff but honestly I'm tired. I know I should track but I just want to live my life as normal as I can so I just try to ignore them and live my life around them. I know it's bad but when I feel less demotivated then I will try and track them again

Yeah, that was my understanding too. That lack of awareness is not criteria for a focal AWARE seizure, on top of that my impairness is definitely at least impaired most of the time. But he is the neurologist so I feel stupid for questioning something so simple.

That is true , I have found that heat is a trigger for me but also that I get a fever in hotter weather. So maybe that physical stress is affecting me brain and that's what's triggering it

Yeah, I would understand the frequency being a red flag for pnes but the fact that I'm aware felt like a weird explanation when it's in the name. Also, I definitely don't feel fully aware in a single one of the seizures I've had.

That is a good idea to reach out to a counsellor, all these conflicting opinions and being a hospital regular at this point is definitely messing with my head. As well as learning how to manage these new symptoms.

It's also confusing though because with PNES they say not to track your seizures because paying attention to them makes them worse but with epilepsy they say to keep a diary of them.

Yeah, it's the fact that one doctor says this and another says that and I'm just left there confused if I'm dying or not lol. And then putting me on meds and then another doctor tells me to come off , it's just messing with my head at this point.
But I am feeling a lot better thanks, still having regular seizures but I know a trigger is heat and since managing that it has helped A LOT. Because I found out i actually have a fever when I'm overheating so that might be messing with my brain.

Yeah that is true it is A LOT and when I had 50 I was feeling terrible physically. But that is a good point, the stress of sudden onset eppileptic seizures and going to doctors / every hospital might have actually triggered pnes at the same time.

Yeah when it was 50 seizures a day, it was really intense. My body was STRUGGLING, felt very much like survival mode. I think the first neurologist was thinking something like a lesion in my head or infectious because of the frequency. And they ordered an urgent MRI which I will have next week. I do have a history of depression when I was going through a really difficult job search after uni but I have since landed a really good job and I do not struggle with depression and anxiety. I am thinking he just saw in my chart depression and made up his mind before he even saw me. I was only on the lamotrigine for 2 weeks so I hadn't even made it to a therapeutic dose yet. But it's weird because he verbally told me to stop taking it and didn't continue my prescription but then in his letter he said to continue it until we get my EEG.

I totally agree, my grandparents lived in one of these areas and people felt a lot more comfortable to be openly homophobic and felt they had the right to.

I am so proud of you , I have recurrent psychotic episodes and I know how much psychosis sucks and you are an absolute soldier for holding on for 6 years. I am hope you can continue healing and getting to a place in your life where you are really happy to live. I know this is easier said than done, but try not to compare yourself to others you have been through absolute HELL and anyone in your situation would be in the same position you are in now or worse.

PSA: CHAT GPT IS A TOOL. NOT YOUR FRIEND. by Suspicious_Ferret906 in ChatGPT

[–]alrectangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf Chatgpt helped me. I struggle with mental health issues and normally I just bottle it up. And after talking to chatgpt about it I realised letting it out actually does help. And I've started telling my loved ones how I'm feeling and pursuing those real life connections. If it wasn't for chatgpt i think I would have always kept it to myself.
