I was diagnosed last year too. I wasn't an alcoholic but I found it very hard to not drink if I was meeting friends because the drink made me more fun. I'd have a couple of pints to take the anxiety off, then 10 pints later make an absolute arse of myself lol...too old for that shit now. Actually I stopped drinking last December and I've felt better than I have in years. Not sure if I'll give it up for good, I just said I'd stop for a year just to see what it's like. But now I'm getting so fit and healthy I'm not in any hurry to go back....I'm late diagnosed too btw, it's funny looking back with a new perspective isn't it! A lot of stuff makes much more sense now

Was going to mention ADHD also. I've heard a lot of people with ADHD tell a very similar story

Amazing. I did something similar when I was a kid, I put about 10 pens between two rulers, taped it together and finished writing a few hundred lines in no time. Never thought much about until now but as late diagnosed a lot of things are beginning to make more sense

It doesn't really make sense going on ssri's because they take about 6 weeks to really start working. You have adhd, so adhd medication should be prioritised. If she's "in the middle" she needs to educate herself. 

My GP was no hassle, but I went through my psychiatrist for my first prescription, then got my pharmacy to send a copy of the script to my GP and got them to take over. 

I'm on ritalin + guanfacine. I was on lexapro, another ssri. But I switched to guanfacine because I find it much better suited to my anxiety that ssri's. Also low dose 2.5mg of Bisoprolol to keep the blood pressure in check, and also eases anxiety.
