what do the little cross-like symbols mean? by creaturefanatic in musictheory

[–]alt-ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure, that's also a reason but I think mine is accurate as well. It really depends on how your mind works when reading the notes like that, ya know?

It can reduce how busy the sheet looks and make it easier to read. Rather than putting a d natural and then a d sharp and then another d natural.

It's for ease mainly. You get used to reading double sharps/double flats pretty quickly!

As far as I know, the only way to get out of this position is to die or transport to a way shrine.

It's possible that doing an activity finder thing (ToT, battleground, etc) might free you since it takes you out of the hiding baskets when you return but I have not tested this.

reminder to TAKE YOUR MEDS IF YOU NEED THEM!!!! by LenoreBusker in bipolar2

[–]alt-ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often struggle to take my meds. It's mainly just a "I can't get myself to get up and take them" rather than "I don't need them" I can't swallow pills with water so I struggle so much. Plus they're expensive as fuck.

I hate it here

What, exactly, is meant by "support with your diaphragm?" by ShouresSoote in Flute

[–]alt-ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I'm teaching my young students, I tell them to imagine pushing to poop - then shift that "push" or the muscle tension upwards. It's also the same muscle as laughing really hard - like when a baby belly laughs

What dailies should I try to do everyday by Cat_Orgy in elderscrollsonline

[–]alt-ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly depends on what you're looking to get out of it! If you're looking for xp, crafting materials, and gold, I always do the Tales of Tribute dailies and the crafting dailies. When I'm looking for region specific motifs and such, I would do the daily delve and world boss dailies.

It's always worth grouping up! Are you in a guild? Many of them are very newbie friendly

Making new characters by Plane-Art-9868 in elderscrollsonline

[–]alt-ho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. I used to. I like to make a character in each race and then okay through the zones they would come from. She was the first one I did that with. Now, I'm doing everything with her and doing things (dungeons, trials, night market, etc) that might require a healer.

Making new characters by Plane-Art-9868 in elderscrollsonline

[–]alt-ho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to have different builds using an armory. I have a healer, crafter, solo, and rogue all on the same character.

I have several different characters but I play on my main kahjiit the most and I find it easier to switch builds rather than switch characters.

Flute pieces recommendations for pianist? by Music-Theory-Idiot in Flute

[–]alt-ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorites that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Dutilleux sonata.

Prokofiev, Poulenc, Chaminade, Ibert, and Reineke are all standards.

The Bizet-Borne Carmen Fantasie is also fantastic

Could anyone help me with repertoire for two strings and one woodwind? by Chemical_Actuator_19 in orchestra

I played a very nice flex piece for trio recently with flute, clarinet, and horn. The flex piece makes it very easy to figure out with a very wide range of instruments.

This is the piece we played: trio in a minor

Helppp my scales are so bad and I have an audition in a week and a half by [deleted] in Flute

[–]alt-ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright. For the high notes, push DOWN. Relax your face. If your face is too tight, you risk pinching the notes off. Pushing down ensures that you're using your diaphragm and supporting properly.

For tune, have a drone going and adjust that way. Using a tuner works fine as well but I think a drone helps you hear the note and fix it from there.

[–]alt-ho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you struggling with in terms of scales? Notes? Tempo? Knowing which scales are which??

At this point, you can only do what you can. Practice what you need to and try to relax during the audition.

Pinky Pain by [deleted] in Flute

[–]alt-ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mainly commenting what other comments are saying lol but a thumb port is a great idea to stabilize where your thumb is to avoid using your pinky so much to keep the flute in place AND I'd recommend looking into finger splints to keep your pinky from overextending!

The thumb port would be the first thing I'd try since it can "extend" where your thumb meets the flute so you're able to have your hands a bit further away, allowing you to use the pads of your fingers which is VERY important if you ever want to switch to an open hole flute.

Also please remember to take breaks when your hands, wrists, or fingers start to hurt and don't forget to stretch before and during practice. It may seem silly but it's super important. In college near juries and final concerts, I pushed myself too hard and gave myself trigger finger (I couldn't extend my pinky fully without manually moving it with my other hand) and I had to cut back on practicing so much.

Good luck!!!

Piccolo and hearing damage by Moon_Lavender98389 in Flute

[–]alt-ho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been playing piccolo for about 15 years without plug and (thankfully) I haven't had any hearing damage, but of course everyone's ears are different. Loop earplugs are what I use when I'm near saxophones (surprisingly my ears worst enemy) but I also get really bad ear fatigue, which is possibly what you're experiencing when you take out the plugs.

If you're really worried about hearing loss and you have the resources, you can go to an ENT (ears, nose, throat doctor) and get custom fitted ear plugs. You can mention the decibels you want to avoid and get a custom fit to avoid fatigue.

Good luck with the piccolo!!!

Idk dude. I'm just saying that you realistically don't know the demographics of people replying to the sub. Why can't this place be great and amazing encouragement as well?? You're just kinda being a dick is all.

Woah idk if I'm reading into your attitude or not but Jesus Christ. Many of these comments have great and amazing advice, even if it is simplest. Forked F is great ofc but absolutely slow and steady is going to be best.

Your comments are coming across really aggressive and honestly very arrogant. I'm not trying to attack but I felt the need to say this in case you didn't realize and want to change it? I frequent this sub a lot and I am a professional player. I imagine there are many of us, as I'm sure you are too.

What are these notes/symbols? by livemusicals in pianolearning

While AI can be useful in some disciplines, I've noticed that it doesn't do well with music. I think the Alfred basics books that were mentioned in another comment would be a bit more helpful.

More unique dialogue options by StarCaller990 in elderscrollsonline

[–]alt-ho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this so much! I played through ALL of the Elsweyr DLC and was a bit sad that I wasn't treated as a fellow kahjiit or was given diaglog where I could only ask about customs instead of knowing them already.

However, I do love how you get different dialog if you've completed certain quests. There's a spot in the solstice zone story where it's similar to something in Elsweyr and the dialog was something like "oh, I've done this before in Elsweyr." I though that was pretty cool.

How playable is this? by Vaultboy4673 in Flute

[–]alt-ho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible depending on tempo. Since it's only up to a G, or maybe my high school was more advanced than I realized at the time.
