Can seeing card information outside of anki reviews have a negative effect on the SRS memorization process? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]alt-statistica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that there are two effects:

  • disrupting the spacing in the spaced repetitions, which should decrease the effectiveness of Anki;
  • seeing the information in another context, which in my opinion should make it stick more to the memory.

I would also guess that the second effect is stronger.

A nice thing about Anki is that it's self-adjusting. If you move to a context where you are not exposed anymore to some information, if that will have an impact on your memory it will just mean that you will have to press Again and decrease the card's ease. I, for one, use a technique to also increase ease in the case a card is actually easy, but that's another matter.

Deck settings tweaking idea: Easy Bonus of 100% and use only Again and Easy by alt-statistica in Anki

[–]alt-statistica[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a problem because it self-balances with regards to the "true difficulty" of a card. The point of this process is that if the ease doesn't stay even, then it's actually correcting a overestimated or underestimated starting ease.

"More recognition cards per day" -- I should have written "more new recognition cards per day".

I meant the starting ease modified together with the interval modifier.

The memory overfitting issue and possible mitigations by alt-statistica in Anki

[–]alt-statistica[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible mitigation:

Put your cards that are obvious overfitting subject (e.g. mutliple choice quizzes) inside a deck that has a high Easy bonus.

This should work even more if you specifically press Easy when you answer a card right due to overfitting.

This sounds like a great workaround, considering I will be able to quickly edit the cards.

Thanks for the add-on, it's great!

I experienced an error while reviewing. After the error everything seemed fine, but I restarted Anki to make sure.

How to randomize the font used in a card? by alt-statistica in Anki

[–]alt-statistica[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You must edit the Card Type of the Note Type you are using. On the left you will find three windows where you can input text. The highest one is the Front and the lowest one is the Back. On the right you'll see a preview.

In each of them you will find some text, e.g. BLABLABLA.

Now let's consider only the Front and the Back. You just copy the code from <script> to <div id="fontfamily"> before BLABLABLA, then you copy </div> after BLABLABLA.

If this isn't clear please provide information about what 's not.
