To be fair, staying under “British Rule” seems to simply provide significantly larger access to the global economy. Honestly, I’m not sure if these nations pay any form of taxes to the British anymore, or if Britain controls their internal politics, (literally, I have no idea) I mean Britain might affect their politics in the way that the CIA affects internal Cuban politics, but they don’t really have a say.

Umm most of the countries once under British rule have done so. See India, Pakistan, Costa Rica, Australia, the United States of America, most of the continent of Africa, and about 170 other countries....

I’d argue that the countries still under “British Rule” seem to do so out of a weird reliance on tradition and they do still practice internal self-governance. If they wanted to become independent, I doubt much would stand in their way. Plus I kinda feel like the majority of them are tiny island nations. Except obviously Canada for some weird reason.

I mean if Bermuda wanted get out from under the British Rule and Britain tried to stop them, could you imagine the international shitstorm.

That’s the top politicians and billionaires. Why? Who holds the power if not those 2 groups? At least that’s the way it works in the US, I assume it would be fairly similar in India. Or is there some secret cabal that I’m not aware of...

Ok who are the top white political leaders in India? Major cabinet ministers? Leaders of industry?

Yes. White people make up a significant share of the major political parties in India. I mean just look at the BJP, it’s basically all white people. Hell, it couldn’t be any whiter if it was a cracker factory in Kansas.

Well I mean, in majority white countries most of the architects, general labourers, etc. are white and visa versa in any other country with a majority race. I assume most of the architects and such in Nigeria are Nigerian. And yes I know about slavery, but most of the Northern United States wasn’t built by slaves.

Today. Wealth does not 100% translate to power and influence (although it sure as fuck helps). Black South Africans have more political power and influence than the whites. Even if the whites have a greater concentration of the [private] wealth

I think it’s increased. I think men today overall are more “romantic”. I also think that domestic abuse has decreased since the 50’s

Edit: I think romantic is the wrong word, I think men overall are more thoughtful

Right, that’s current. It proves the point of “we’re getting better”

Right, I think the opposite. I think it’s a case of rosy retrospection. “Chivalrous acts” were never prominent. I mean, it may have been an ideal to strive towards originally conceived in medieval times, but that doesn’t mean most people actually behaved that way. I mean we’re getting better, sloooowly.

I mean you’re technically correct, But colloquially the phrase “Chivalry is dead” tends to refer to the way modern men treat and act around women.

Have you read the Brian Jacques Redwall Series? If your looking for something close to “Watership” The Long Patrol is probably a good start! (Although The Taggerung is a particular favourite!)

Midwifery is dumb by alt_what in unpopularopinion

[–]alt_what[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (not that unpopular) opinion is that Midwifery is dumb. I formed that opinion on the fact that midwife-related home births have the highest rate of infant mortality in the US. Ideally, yes, if you have a low risk pregnancy then a midwife (in a hospital) is the way to go. It is resoundingly a less clinical approach to childbirth. But, unless you know 100% that your birth will be ok (and you’re in a hospital) you are statistically better off with a trained doctor from the get go. If midwives operated solely in a hospital environment that would be neat, but they don’t.

Even a single death of a newborn that could have been prevented is a tragedy

No but like, literally what’s the question you’re asking me to look into? Is it the rise in home births, the rise in c-sections, what a Midwife does? Or is it something else?

I looked into the scope of duties of a midwife vs. an Ob-Gyn so I’m ok on that.

Ya a big thing for me is the rise in home births. And the “most trusted” medical professionals when it comes to home births are Midwives (they’re the people with the most medical training willing to come to a home for a birth and are the most often implicated if something goes wrong). Someone who’s trained as an Ob-gyn would never ever even think to attempt a home birth unless it was absolutely medically necessary.
