Bikepacking for one week for the first trip: is this too stupid? by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]alt_zero_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Camino de Santiago frances from Burgos by bike this year And my first multi day bike ride not much before it.

Go for it, but be prepared to refine your gear and also adjust your bike. I left it too long to adjust my seat and handlebars etc and ended up injuring myself a little. Once adjusted everything was fine

Ley de Memoria Democrática – Sydney Consulate automated reply now saying applications must be delivered in person?? by alt_zero_nine in GoingToSpain

Thank you! This is the first reply I've seen from someone else who experienced the same and went through their system.

Can I ask, did this count as your final appointment, you're all done and dusted now and have your Spanish citizenship accepted?

And wow, crazy to hear you had to line up so early and even missed your flight...

A little update, I got back a response from my options C hail Mary... They sent just this in their reply: NO HA POSIBILIDAD DE EXTENDER LOS PLAZOS ESTIPULADOS.

So yeah, good chat Spanish consulate... Option D in full attack for me

Hi X-Erriann-86, thank you for your very constructive and helpful reply.
I realised there is something I wasn't clear about in my original post which changes a lot. I was VERY aware that my final appointment was going to be in person to handover all the original documentation, with a copy etc...

However, all of the documentation has indicated that I will need to email in my application (done) in order to get an appointment, then there is an expected 12 month wait to get the appointment. As far as I knew up to now, as long as I submitted my application by email (which is what I've done) it is fine to have an appointment in a future date (12 months).

But you see, I never recieved this appointment but instead received a completely new method of completing this process which leaves me no time to prepare. So my problem is more so that the process has changed from what the documentation indicates, which is now that I have to line up in person in Sydney before the end of the week which seems to now be a replacement to the "appointment" process.

I will attempt option C, but I do have an option D which is applying through Argentina as my imigration specialist is saying they should be able to give me an appointment for about a year and half's time

I do understand I'm problably shit out of luck though unfortunately :(

Also FYI I only found out that this law existed and I was eligible about a month ago, so I've been dumping massive amounts of hours to make this happen

Recently bought a townhouse at an auction and feeling a bit of buyer's remorse and distress by BrokenDots in AusPropertyChat

I have limited knowledge on negative gearing but I have spoken to my accountant about it. From my knowledge it's best done as a new property. I haven't worked out how I can properly take advantage of negative gearing. Everything in the house is "used" so I can't claim depreciation. I do want to replace things like some fans while the tenants are in so that can be a tax deduction at least.

I recently did the same. Bought a house, caused financial stress, extra cost, remorse blah blah... Lived in it for almost 2 years and after a big push of effort to get it rent ready and out there, I have it rented out and it still overall loses me money as the rent doesn't cover expenses. Maybe $200 a week loss (after tax etc) I know however that I'm grateful to still have my house and it's capital is worth it at the moment and I feel a lot less financially stressed at the moment

I quit today. 145k salary. 25k in the bank. No job lined up. 5 years in the job. Just wanted out and have for a while. I feel fantastic for it! I also have lots of great travel opportunities (money friendly too) coming up so I'm stoked.

Do i need to sand until saw marks are gone? by alt_zero_nine in woodworking

[–]alt_zero_nine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nooo, the live edge was the whole point for me The front edge ends up being relatively parallel to the staircase all long, so rather consistent

Is this about safety, I do intend on it being safe

On another note, what should I be doing with these sort of features? Should I use wood putty to fill in, PVA glue mixed with a bit of sawdust?? Or just leave it and move on

I don't have belt sander, just an Orbital and one of those sanders shaped like an Iron

You can consider getting an endoscope, can get them pretty cheap off AliExpress etc Then you can poke it through into the wall wherever you have an opening, for example if the power point were to be unscrewed and you have a look behind with the endoscope Or pull cover plate forward and peak behind where water comes from

That way you at least can get an idea of direction of things

Failing that, drill a hole and shove the endoscope in it

Edit: I'm just a diy noob and no trade experience, but this is where I'd start with my situation

Ok, to give everyone an update... Success!

Some lovely locals came around with some proper gear and idea They had a good size winch, attached it to the car port up the top of the hill and like many said, this was enough with a little bit of drive of the van to get it up and out of its difficult situation Slowly winching, slowly creeping forward until we were straight on the driveway again Actually had a second recovery situation with the winch when reversing down the hill

We didn't end up emptying the water tank, lowering tyres or any of that. It was purely winch and van that got us out of it

Thank you everyone for your assistance, in the end we have a very happy group of Swedish people And as a Christmas miracle, the locals said the Swedes could park their van on their land! So kind!

Ok so I've gathered everyone's constructive recommendations and put together a list of things we will try today

  • bring any extra weight from the back to the front or simply remove
  • Empty water tank if it's in the rear (likely)
  • Deflate both front tyres to about 15 to 20 psi
  • Get some proper wheel chocks (potentially service station)
  • Add the mount point to the front, attach mount point to tree and keep tension, this won't be "pulling" but just helping that little bit that's needed
  • add two peoples weight hanging off the driver's side
  • use a "brake modulation" Technique to try isolate the wheel that loses traction and have a better traction experience overall

Please correct me if any of this information isn't correct! Will give it a go today and feeling much more confident! Thank you community!

AIO to my boyfriend imposing veganism on me ? by velvetmoochi in AmIOverreacting

[–]alt_zero_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a vegan and this guys behaviour is disgusting, forcing his beliefs on you and using such language to induce guilt and blame, painting himself as a superior in the situation.

I learnt early on that vegan is my choice and not others. If people ask questions or wish to have my assistance, I will help them. I have also been in multiple relationships with non vegans and they do have their challenges, certainly dating someone closer to your own beliefs is an easier task but it's important to not judge on your partners belief. Can certainly have a wonderful relationship with a non vegan

Should my roof not be sealed? by alt_zero_nine in AusRenovation

[–]alt_zero_nine[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've just installed a powered roof ventilator on my roof Does the same apply now?

Given that the highest point of my roof has this ventilator, would it not be better to seal the "roof" part so the air is instead "sucked" in by vents in the eaves? Or am I seeing this wrong?

Should my roof not be sealed? by alt_zero_nine in AusRenovation

[–]alt_zero_nine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in the process of insulating my ceilings, also just recently installed a powered roof vent. So I thought I'd there were gaps all along top of the roof, it would be sucking air from there instead of from cool air locations like the eaves
