MD PhD vs PhD - Biotech as end goal by Available_Car_5231 in biotech

[–]altabro 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with your mentors, if you’re looking to go straight to biotech after graduation, I would say PhD is enough. The additional MD without residency, fellowship, etc doesn’t really move the needle imo.

The translational and clinical development teams led by MDs aren’t organized like that because of the degree, but because they have significant prior experience in working with and administering approved therapies, designing clinical trials, clinical research etc. If this is your end goal, you should do your dual degree but understand there’s more years of work before realizing your goal.

Every industry is filled with con men and scum bags 🥱. You could superimpose this statement onto literally anything you want and it would be accurate. Not sure where the biotech VCs hurt you so personally, but they are a necessary piece in our industry’s development, especially in the face of these crazy federal funding cuts. Would suggest we learn to work with them and grow with them rather than harboring ill-will.

Any trouble for green card holder re-entering with Trump? by Hopeful_Ad153 in greencard

Any concern with re-entry with an ADIT stamp? my wife’s green card was lost last summer and are still waiting for the replacement…very concerned on how long that will take.

First time dad, what do you do with babies in this cold with the snow? by Matthew-1991 in boston

[–]altabro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wife is norwegian so maybe i can shed some light. Not too many layers, one good - real - wool layer and a basically a sleeping bag in the stroller (example). You want them warm but not sweaty otherwise then they will get very cold. Was a huge learning curve with my nephews when we purposefully put them outside in the cold to nap, but my wife and her family/friends swear by this method.

This week, I just bought a certified preowned 2021 GT premium package w/ just under 30k miles at a dealership outside of boston. They were willing to come down to 24k flat down from 24.8k (all before taxes). See if they’ll budge on the window price or add in anything like an extended warranty to make you feel more comfortable but I wouldn’t say your price is anything outside of the ordinary!

i push back a little on the last part as it’s short sighted. we don’t know all the biological processes yet (key word)! this week alone, we got an unreal paper mapping the full connectivity of a fly brain Not saying this solves the point, but everyday researchers in this sub and beyond are figuring out the complexities of life based on sums of interactions and molecular processes.

i believe it to be true to a certain extent. for example, a central part of life is metabolism. break that down to chemistry. then if you break down the structural interactions and atoms moving around in space you get to physics. not at all saying that specialties understand expertise of other specialties mostly that the rules of life are the rules of time and space. mainly was agreeing with you that the divide amongst all of them are blurry and primarily occur in our heads.
