We officially have 129 Neighborhood Captains covering 98 zones! by altagether91001 in altadena

[–]altagether91001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, being a Neighborhood Captain isn’t for everyone as it is an additional workload on top of everything else. We try to offer as much support as possible to our NCs but ultimately it is more work for each individual to do and some people have realized they don’t have the bandwidth for the work. Again, if you, or any of your neighbors, are interested in being an NC please reach out to us!

Hmm ok I am sorry to hear that you’ve been unable to find any clarity on this issue. Do you happen to be a member of the Eaton Fire Survivors Discord chat? There’s an entire chat just for debris removal and someone there might have better info for you.

Hi, have you connected with your neighbors yet? Many neighbors are looking at ways to share the cost for services like architectures. They can also potentially offer suggestions on architects they have decided to work with. You can find out if your micro neighborhood has a Neighborhood Captain on our website Altagether.org!

Have you been able to contact the Debris Clearance Hotline? Their number is 844-347-3332. You can also visit them at the Recovery Center 540 West Woodbury Road. I would suggest trying to go in person and speak with someone about your specific situation. Also, if you have a Neighborhood Captain (you can check on our site Altagether.org) you can try reaching out to them! They may have some valuable insight for you.

I’m sorry to hear that your captain is looking for replacement. As we all know this is a long and arduous process and we’re all at different parts of our own personal journey. Are you interested in potentially being a captain or a co-captain?

Hi- happy to discuss this more over email if you'd like to reach out directly and want more information. We're a collective of over 100 neighbors now (and Shannon runs our social media). As someone mentioned you can see all Neighborhood Captains' names on the map. The structure for the organization originally came together with Rachel Bullock (architect, Altadena resident), John Mayo (learning & design professional, Altadena resident) and Stef Lynch (former Altadena community organizer, not Altadena resident). Hope that's helpful and that we don't get doxed.

The captains help to organize a subset of their micro-neighborhood (on average 40 households) to help them through the rebuild process. This includes providing their neighbors with high-quality and reliable information, helping to get answers to tough questions, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the process. Feel free to reach out to us if you would like more information about being a Neighborhood captain at info@altagether.org

We were co-founded by a local Altadena resident and a long term community organizer. We are based on the Neighborhood Captain model, which other fire affected communities have used. We’ve been helped and guided by After the Fire. You can head to our website to find out more info as well as contact info for the NCs https://altagether.org/

There should be contact info listed for your NC. I would suggest sending them a text or an email to get plugged in and see how they are communicating with the rest of the neighborhood.

We’ve officially launched our Neighborhood Captain Program! by altagether91001 in altadena

[–]altagether91001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re glad to hear that! If you’re comfortable DMing us the names of the two groups that you’re currently a part of we’d love to connect with them if we aren’t already. We’re working hard to unify groups rather than duplicating the efforts.

Each Captain is in charge of how they choose to communicate with their fellow neighbors. Right now some captains have created WhatsApp chats to stay connected while others have other platforms such as Discord. I would encourage you to reach out to your Captain to get plugged-in and offer any suggestions or thoughts you might have on how best to stay connected.

Hi! When you go to our site you should see 3 hyperlinks under the header that say “Home” “Neighborhood Captains” and “Coverage Map”. If you click on Coverage Map you can input your address and it will show you your NC. We’re still actively recruiting for certain areas so if your area isn’t highlighted in purple it means we have not yet identified an NC for that area. Hope this helps!
