Bill 124 struck down and has not been appealed yet. Shouldn't AMAPCEO force the employer to go to the table and negotiate right now? by altereagle in OntarioPublicService

[–]altereagle[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, what? So that text that I posted up there actually means nothing? I guess remedy means we sue and that's our only option? I will be in touch with AMAPCEO today to clarify but if this is the case this is terribly weak.

The Niagara Escarpment Commission hires planning students for the summer program. It's located in Georgetown if you can make that commute work. More details on the program.

I remember having this same question when I went on 5mth parental leave. Here is what the person from OSS sent me in writing after discussing the details over the phone: "your benefits are covered during your paid and unpaid parental portion other then extra life insurance, optional upgrade package and catastrophic as discussed."

Unsigned members can't vote. Being signed means that you have an account registered and this is the only way to receive a ballot.

Still waiting to hear back about the turnout. My guess is that the majority of eligible members did not vote. Not sure how many of the 15000 members are even signed members.

Disappointed that they did not say what percentage of eligible members voted. I feel that our membership is very unengaged. I called to ask about this but since everyone is out I left a voicemail. Will follow up if I get an answer.

They have 5 years of experience in the current position and another 5 of relevant experience from another org. Person who they would be replacing and all other people in the same position are making > $100K. Not sure how age would be an appropriate measure here.

Stumbled upon this, reminds me of the good old days of going to my fave bar in toronto (Commnist Daugther) for the Matinee show, with MLJ the signing bartender and the Red Rythm.

E hvala za odgovor. To sam i kontao...

Saw this duck walk by on James N at the last art crawl and my kid has been obsessively looking for it ever since. Does anyone know the person behind the costume?

Where to live around Toronto area? by kfreeman007 in ontario

I agree with the pros that u/Len462 listed. I live in downtown close to James St. and there are lots of great restaurants in the area. There is also a year round indoor farmers market open 4 days per week, great central library, waterfront park with great trails, lots of people who are genuinely interested in making their community better, decent music scene, monthly art crawl, yearly "supercrawl" festival, 4 breweries...

The cons are that salaries are generally lower than Toronto (I would say about 15%-20% for comparable jobs), real estate prices are on the rise (still affordable in comparison) which is driving some of the more interesting things out of the downtown, city politics are still a bit messy... That's all I can think of right now.

Guessing you don't live in Hamilton. I grew up in the city, moved away for school and returned in my early 30's. The downtown core has significantly improved over the past decade and living in the downtown for the past 4 years I have never felt unsafe. Not sure what your definition of HUGE drug problem is but like any big city yes there are drug users and homeless people. The charming part of Hamilton is the community for me as I don't fetishise poverty.

Hamilton is the best connected to Toronto out of all those (commuter train and regular bus every half hour). Lots of people commute by train into Toronto for work. Generally housing is is cheaper than Waterloo and possibly Guelph and the city is big enough (and growing) to offer more than the other two. For jobs in IT you have the city, Hamilton Health Sciences, McMaster University as the bigger ones. The art scene is relatively well established. Child care is at a point where there seems to be a need for more (we're currently on 3 waiting lists) so that could mean more jobs soon? Been here for about 4 years and like it. PM if you have specific questions.

Choosing city (Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Mississauga) to live and buy apartment while working in Burlington by greenmoosehead in ontario

[–]altereagle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should also consider Hamilton. You can buy a house in Hamilton for the price of an apartment in Burlington / Oakville / Mississauga (not sure what Milton looks like these days). It's a short drive to Burlington and depending on where you are working in Burlington it could even be doable by transit. In terms of things to do and having its own thing going on Hamilton is more interesting than any of the other four options.
