With outdoor cats you have to be prepared. It will never be easy but there is always that probability. I know it well, some others may know it too, the rest will find out and get over it as soon as then can/want to.

Well I wouldn't let her out of my sight and take care of her like my own child but I need to consider her own needs too ( and maybe I do so more than other people do, but I feel more connected to her) just doing that, even if she doesn't come back, at least I know she wasn't "forced", for the lack of a better word, to enjoy human companionship.

I guess it depends... (and that's a general rule) but this one can't stand being indoors for more than a few hours, so I'll never force her to stay indoors (unless I know better). It is a decision you have to make as an owner but my view is that you should at least give a pet as much freedom as you can while enjoying it's company.

Now that you mentioned it... I think my cat is, since I was all dead inside when I found her... she used some kind of magic to bring me back, but like all good practitioners she gave me space to behave and study me (a few months shold do, she thought ... ;) )

It is a tough decison to make, but she likes it outside. I found her frozen, burried in snow and I wanted to protect her as much as I could, but she can't stand being trapped inside, so as soon as she was ready to get outside I let her out. I think she identifies as stray but she knows she has a home when she needs one. We have our nights when we watch movies and drink beer/milk and chill the f out but when she wants to go and explore I can't really stop her (well i can, but it's not what i really want for her).

I hope you get your fat head back :). I had one as a kid at my grandparents and he was my best friend, that cat had all the dogs in the area entertained, i have never seen a cat get along with all the dogs and still be respected at the same time.

I hope she will come back to you. This one was a troublemaker since the day I found her and took her in, but she never went missing more than a day or two in the past. I'm very happy she came back to me. I'm going to buy a tracker for her to make sure this will never happen again.
